Yanco - Just outside Leeton in the MIA, where they row surf boats on the Murrumbidgee.

My Dad spent the first few years of his life living on a farm in Yanco.

Which segues to another NSW town where he moved next.

Walcha - in the Northern Tablelands of NSW near Armidale.

Former Wallaby, Waratah and Eastern Suburbs stalwart Sam Payne grew up in Walcha. My Dad's sisters used to babysit him when he was a kid.

I actually had read the thread rules on page 1. It is entirely coincidental that Nimmitabel was a correct answer. I just picked it because it has an interesting sounding name.

Humpty Doo - One of my favourite NT Place names and they have plenty of neat names in the Top End.

On the Arnhem Highway south of Darwin, it is the home of the Big Boxing Crocodile "tourist attraction".

EDIT:
Humpty Doo is withdrawn. Oops. Already used on Page 1 of the thread, as has Ipswitch.

The TMO has ruled that "I" is still the live town.

Khancoban, NSW - a tiny little town on the Alpine Way a short distance from the Victorian border. You get there by driving down the Alpine Way from Dead Horse Gap at Thredbo. It's a terrific drive but you want a good set of brakes!

I once visited Khancoban as part of a UNSW Foundation Day Roadtrip/Scavenger Hunt. Our task was to try and get as many people into a phone booth outside the pub as possible.

We walked into the pub and sheepishly told some people what we were doing. The biggest, roughest, meanest looking guy in the pub overhead us and then bellowed:

"Right. Everyone outside. We're getting in the phone box."

Thanks to his demeanor, we managed to get about 15 people and a dog in the phone box. It was incredible.
