I agree his skill under the high ball and the additional kicking practice he has had would make him a very very interesting prospect at fullback...

Wamberal nailed it. The only time rugby should look at a league convert these days is if they come looking for a game.
But you must say, the NRL must be pretty stoked with their luck at the moment. SBW will undoubtedly draw in a few Rugby followers to see how he goes and Folau will do the same for a few AFL fans (for a while anyway).

Cross-code fans and fans that follow success are fools gold.
You get a rip roaring turn out first game of the season, but by round 3 you'd be lucky to retain even 1% of the boom.
When all is said and done Folau and SBW need to pay for their pay checks by playing because 2-3 games of excess revenue will not pay their contracts.

It's called the swing audience and their have been a few studies which support the concept...
A large proportion of the Australian public feels no allegiance to a specific code and are happy to watch whichever one captures their attention at the time.
The AFL are well aware of this concept, hence why they jumped on the Karmichale and Folau bandwagon..
Folau generated significant publicity, there is a reason these players were signed so early in the clubs formation, their publicity also flows over to sponsorships and corporate support... Folau may have well and truly repaid his worth to the AFL before even playing a game.

Speaking of Fools Gold anybody who thinks that rugby is ever going to be relevant in this country is chasing it. Super 15 and the Waratahs, give me a break. The Wallabies, well their style of rugby is very unattractive. The Shute Shield, I'll support this competiton to the day I die. Grassroots rugby is the way to go. They, apart from one club continue to foster the values that rugby was built on, mateship and hard work being two of those.

Depends what you define as relevant I suppose. If you mean will rugby be in the AFL's shoes then it's a no.
If you mean will it have a national footprint then it certainly does. I had the pleasure of going to a local Tassie game where a very erratic and error filled game featuring more individual brilliance then anything was player. Most of the 200 supporters on the sideline would argue the game is relevant to them.
And that's Tassie , probably the darkest corner of Australian rugby (and a say this with no offence meant to the active Taswegians on the forum).
Mate trust me, it's plenty relevant.

Watching the Storm play tonight I thought Sisa Waqa would've been fantastic.
By the looks of it, so did the Brumbies 5 years ago but the ARU knocked them back.

Steve Rogers. Best Union Player to have never played the game (and he hated the Code from all reports).
Lockyer would most likely have succeeded.
If the Rebels been able to snag Billy Slater at the time of the Storm Scandal, I believe he would have been playing Fullback for the Wallabies at the RWC in NZ. but that is just my opinion.

The article is from November last year which suggests that he didn't get his release.

There's still time for a salary cap breach to free things up. In fact the lite sport is due for another one about now.

Another one I quite like is Rugby Lite.
Once ASADA bans start taking effect, Salary caps won't be an issue. Under ASADA/WADA rules clubs are not allowed to pay banned players. Mungoball will have plenty of money soon. Some clubs more than others.
