The jury is still out about the best way to prepare a team to play at altitude. Commonly most teams try to maximise their acclimatisation time at altitude, whereas of late some have tried the old fly in and out on the day. I must admit I didn't follow which technique was used by the Tahs.

Maybe it was coincidental that Foley was pulled just after the knock on. I didn't think that the backline was all that effective or threatening after the bench was emptied.

Tahs had an odd prep. Flew to joberg and trained there. Bussed into Pretoria on game day. Maybe they had better facilities? Maybe trying to create a home base? Maybe it's cheaper?

My viewing is paused at 20 mins in and he's already put 2 out on the John Bull.

It gets better, but in time honoured Tahs fashion after they raise our hopes ............ you know the rest.

Tahs played bloody well I thought. Shame the laps in the last 2 minutes denied them the losing bonus point. They played well enough to deserve that. I thought they looked in a bit of strife in the first half but they responded well in the second. Most sides fade away earlier at altitude against a side like the bulls who try to strangle an opposition at the back end of the game. Shame about the loss but the Tahs keep getting better and better in my view. They are fitting into their style better week by week but more impressive to me is the attitude shift. To me they look to be playing with plenty of heart for each other, their coach and their jersey. It is becoming more of a joy to watch the Tahs play each week seeing this and I am finding myself cheering for them more and more as they progress.

They are going to be genuine contenders next year at this rate me thinks.

Really? I mean I never thought he has much talent but a thug? Not something I have ever really associated with him. Quite the contrary.

Not a lot different to staying at Manly and playing at Penrith.

I think that some of the criticism of Waratahs is a bit harsh. They play the top Sth African team, in Pretoria, hardly have the ball for the first 30 mins and go to half time down 5-9. In the end they score 3 tries to 2 and the 2nd Bulls try comes on full time and they lose 19-30. It was a very intense game of rugby and much closer than the final score would indicate. Goal kicking really the difference - we wouldn't have been running it from our own 22 for the last 10 mins if we weren't behind by 6 and missed more points than that in relatively straightforward kicks.

I must admit that I was surprised at the apprearance of Lucas and Volavola at the 60 minute mark, particuarly as neither had played 1 minute out of the previous 160. I disclose that for weeks I had advocated Lucas for McKibbin, but gave up on that 2 weeks ago. I think I even said at the start of the thread that McKibbin would probably start for the rest of the season and in the name of continuity and combinations, I could live with it. Having said that, I didn't detect and major disruption when Lucas and Volavola came on. Lucas put in a ridiculous kick with about 4 to go, but other than that I thought that he and Volavola went ok.

Scrum good, lineout needs work and forget the tricky switches behind the advantage line in the backs. Goal kicking has also become a mojor concern - strange as McKibbin was knocking them over from everywhere for 7 or 8 weeks.
