Result from the St Pats Knox fixture was a victory to Knox 45-12.

Knox were the better side as you could imagine having played plenty of trials and having a professional coach at the helm which was very apparent in the style and structure of the Knox play. St Pats crossed first through some smooth backline play after a strong rolling maul from the St Pats forwards. After that the ability of the Knox team took over and showed why they are very strong contenders for the CAS this season. At half-time the score was 24-5 in favour of Knox.

The second half saw a stronger effort from St Pats, whereby they were able negotiate Knox's expansive play, even holding out Knox after been camped on their own line. From what I timed, there was no scoring in the second half until 22 minutes in. After this Josh Norah scored a well earnt try playing at Fly Half, after some sloppy Knox backline play resulting in a poor pass by a frontrower which was dropped and swooped in by Norah. However this as good as it got for St Pats with Knox charging home ans St Pats rolling the substitutes to give form 2nd's players a go.

Improvements for St Pats were there discipline at the all round, but particularly at the breakdown. From what I recall St Pats only conceeded thereabouts of 5 penalties, a great improvement from the dismal double figures in other trials. The St Pats lineout started to find its feet today only losing one, against a very composed and complex Knox lineout. Believe it or not but St Pats took the cake at set piece time having a more successful and simple lineout, as well as packing a strong scrum, which took a tighthead against Knox's heralded forwards and scrum.

Josh Norah was a standout for St Pats playing fly half, coming off some strong form agaisnt Trinity and Waverely. Josh made 2 or 3 linebreaks and scored a try amongst other things. The St Pats forwards had a tough day against the well drilled and larger Knox pack. Starting at hooker Tim Skinner provided a storng platform at set piece and was strong around the park with ball in hand and at the breakdown. He was also good when he was moved to both tighthead prop and loosehead prop at various stages of the game, a situation not many would envy.

St Pats now has a break before taking on Pius in a trial fixture and by then should be pack to full strength
Does anyone from the St Pats camp have any word on the return of Josh Taweel? He will certainly bring some flare and speed to the side.

Good news for St Pats Taweel will be available within the next two weeks which will have him back for the next fixture all things going to plan

Didn't Auggies play them last year on their NZ tour? Remind us of the score then.

Is this going to become a bit of an annual reciprocal hosted game?

When is the Christchurch Boys High game? Assume that this was also a match from last years NZ tour. What score then?

They narrowly lost to Scots the other day and had a good victory vs ACT Presidents U18 team IIRC.

17-10 to Augustines last year in NZ, both games could have gone either way, not sure if it will become annual game, would be great if it was
Put 50 points on Christchurch in NZ, so couldn't have been there 1sts, Augustines v Christchurch Boys High saturday 4th may, rat park at 5:00, if its half as good as the Southlands game it will be a cracker!!

I'll take a stab in the dark.
Game 1: Redfields have had a strong rugby programme over the years, and IIRC are defending champs.

Game 2: Redlands from time to time have been competitive in trial games against GPS 2nds and ISA 1 teams previously.

Game 3: The game of the round must be Chev vs Andrews.
Chev have been competitive in Div2 over the years and Tom Ando is talking them up.
Andrews is on their way down from Div 1 where their performance was inconsistent, beating Pats and Gregs one week but losing to Pius the next.
Nothing about trial from from either makes it hard to tip but I think there may be a cigarette papers thickness difference between the teams, so I'll go for the Home team Chev in a close match.

Who's playing whom in the Div 1 trials this weekend?
Oak's form hasn't been all that impressive compared to 2012. rebuilding phase.
Augies are up against Christchurch at rat park 5pm.
Pats seem to have been building for round 1.
Are Stannies foxing with their Barker result?
Kinross had some classy U16's last year.
Gregs is the dark horse with potential. With increased numbers in the rugby programme their results should become more consistent, and they will surprise many if they can get the pill wide.
Pius - haven't recovered from the M Hooper and L Jones days.

The mighty Oaks are up against the current GPS Champions(Newington) tomorrow, will be a good measuring stick to see how they have progressed. They did have a 21-14 win over trinity in the holidays they seem to be finding some cohesion.

Good luck against St Andrews tomorrow Tom (im in the USA so its tomorrow ) / today your time.

Back in my day we used to paste them when they were Div 2 and we were div 1 (our 2nd xv played them).

Notice the talk about St Gregs earlier - we used to play them in the mid 90's at Chev - usually in Waratah Shield or a trial game. So they ahve been kicking about Rugby for a while - just seem to have been taking it more seriously the last few years (which is cool ) .

WHen I was at Marist in canberra I watched our FIrst XV play them (I think it was them) in Waratah Shield (pretty sure it was them) . We beat them 100 odd - and as they were walking off they were screaming at us "play is in league" .The whole junior school got detention at lunch that game too because when they scored their one and only try - the junior school booed . The principal haulled us into an asssembly , roasted the school and said no lunch - we all had to sit down and eat our lunch, then there was no play time . Looking back it was warranted as its very unsportsman like , but as kids we were all like "but it happens at the raiders game why can't we do it here" . lol

In a hard fought game Oakhill 10 beat Newington 5, Oakhill defended for 30 minutes of the first half and spent 20 of those minutes in their own 22. It was good to see a great defensive effort and they have come along way since their Barker game.well done to them.

St Augustines 35, Christchurch boys high 25,
Christchurch totally dominant for first ten minutes, from then on it was all St Augustines,
late converted try from CBH disguising a very dominant all round performance from Augustines.

The CBH team pushed Saints well into the second half. I know a team plays with what is available but there were two particularly large CC units that were left off the field through injury, (Possibly part of the cavalry that was sent in to reclaim the day against Scotts) Christchurch scored first into the bitter southerly. Though given Warringah with the wind scored only one more point than Randwick in the second half of the curtain raiser the wind must not have been worth as much as one may have estimated. the school teams traded blows up to around 15 minutes into the second half. The score at that stage I think was close enough to 18 each. I think in the course of the game the home goal kicker managed to hit all four uprights. At this stage CC were required to play a pack that included 5 front rowers and a spare back. (given many Saints then managed to score three tries without answer. The last play of the game did belong to the Christchurch pack. It is good that "next try wins" isn't adopted when it's time to go home for dinner at this level.

Stokes clearly kept a better count on the score than I did

Congrats to Oakhill.
That's a good win, regardless of who or who not was available yesterday.

That's 1/1 in my ISA Div 2 footy tipping. Better than what I am doing in Super Rugby footy tipping.
Doesn't seem like there was too much in it, while the result was not the cigarette paper closeness predicted, was it close?

Any other results from ISA?
Oaks beat New
Augies beat CBHS
Stannies beaten by View by lots
Pius - ?
Gregs beaten by Joeys by lots
Pats - ?
Kinross -?

From other threads it looks like Shore, Scots, High, Grammar and Kings trial matches are "unaccounted" for. Aresome of these the "?" above ?

One of the closest games I think I ever played in! Very close. One of the SACS players knocked it on trying to quick tap the ball 10 metres from the line, after the 7th penalty within our 22. Big sigh of relief :p It was 14-7 to Sacs at half time.

Dollars to donuts that it was a big doofus 2nd rower or prop with white line fever that knocked it on.

Us fatties should not be given responsibility to touch the ball in a pressure situation. :)

From reading the threads Auggies played two NZ in a 5 day turn around and won both games against quality schools. One holders of the Press Cup in NZ.
