Pfitzy - I don't think the Tahs were a bucket of shit - the Stormers do that to teams - they are fucking hard to crack. They tried to play footy, but it didn't work, and it was greasy - despite Kearns' blathering, it drizzled all arvo in the East. The manner of the win said it for me - they played to win it in a positive fashion. We would not have won that in years past.
Timani is playing himself onto a plane to France quickly - apart from a couple of dubious, armless hits, not much value. Skelton looks bigger, and has more intent perhaps!
Horne and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) are a defensive unit to reckon with, which is nice to have. AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) really looks in fine form all round.
A good win.

Only real mistake from Folau was not kicking and trying to run it out from his own goaline and getting caught. Apart from that, his one kick was booming.
Barnes was good when he came on - apart from his kicking game from hand. Which was shocking. Please try to kick less Barnes.

It now seems a long time ago since the Tahs' horrible effort against the Brumbies on the road in Rd 4.
Whilst for large passages this game was under-whelming, there was some mighty defence from both sides & the Tahs won the war of attrition; (the Stormers are likely to have a few in the casualty ward next week). The Tahs' bench might even have been the telling difference.
It's an even longer time since the Tahs wilted woefully weekly during the last 20 mins in many matches in 2012. They were painful days for the players & us fans alike.
However, Cheika has moulded a fitter, winning mindset and must be congratulated. The players are responding and deserve their plaudits returning from SA & recording back to back wins.

I was still on a high from last well and expected more. But you can't deny some of those passes were stupid, especially if it was a bit greasy.
Anyway, we fucking won. I'll take that.
Some good performances from the team, but Kepu, Timani, Palu aren't in that group.

Stormers are a very difficult team to play and score against - rock solid defence, which was clearly offside at times - particularly the outside backs. It looked like a Canterbury Rugby League umbrella defence from the 80s.
Even though we made some mistakes with some very loose passing in the 1st half, it takes a bit of character to come from behind and win an arm-wrestle like that.
Barnes goal-kicking is very handy - pity he can't play 9. He started well with a few passes and then got an attack of Hickeyitis and put in a nothing kick down the middle of the field, which was followed by a mid-field bomb. I think when he realised the crowd were booing him he snapped back into 2013.
Curious defence strategy at the lineout. On Stormers ball, Barnes defended at hooker, TPN stood at half and Lucas at 5/8. Never seen that before.

Tough game that one. The stormers take no prisoners but the tahs by and large matched them in the collisions. I thought we were gone when foley missed that droppie but the replacements sparked one last surge and it was enough.
Folau probably learned as much about rugby tonight as he has all season. He stood up well though and even dusted off the canon at a key time, which deans will have watched very closely. Horne and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) were also excellent tonight.
It thought most of us pigs were solid, a good team game with support of each other. Line out was better than expected and scrum was surprisingly a bit of a weapon for us. Palu had a nice little running battle with his opposite and skeleton's cameo was effective even if he first touch was a catch and pass out the backs.
I took my 3 girls to it (all 7 and under) and they chanted tahman or maybe (Tarzan?) all the way home. Good night.

As a comparison, I also went to the the sharks v tigers NRL last night. Chalk and cheese in terms of entertainment value even though there was many more tries in the NRL game,
He made more than 1 big hit, but he generally carries too high, and got turned over a couple of times. He is going backwards in recent times. With Skelton, I think the Tahs might have a decent enough replacement in coming years. At his best, he was Test quality, but we aren't seeing it so much now.

I thought Skelton was a key sub. Hit a good line out take, played some good maul defence (winning a turnover I think?) was strong at THL in the scrum and had some big hits.
One question I do have for the rugby minds though:
If you hold a player up in the tackle until its a maul, then when it goes to ground you don't have to roll away, and if you tie it up you win the put in. However if you are defending a maul and work your way through to the ball holder and take him to ground, you are required to roll away. Why is this? Isn't it the same situation? IMO if you get to the ball Ayer in a maul and bring him down you should win the turnover, same as with holding a player up. Anyone know why they have different rings?

Scoring two tries against the Stormers is a good result. The Chiefs put four tries on them early in the season but aside from the Cheetahs and the Hurricanes, we're the only other team to score two tries against them this season.
There have been plenty of games where they've had no tries scored against them (some of which they've still lost).
