In an attempt to make the tie breaker something that is meaningful to teenage boys, the tie breaker will be based on a week by week assessment of post match afternoon teas. Points for the Captain's speech have been limited to 5 % of the total mark, Other marking criteria are Food Range 25%, Food Quality 25%, Food Presentation 20% Food Quantity 25%.

Completed Afternoon Tea Assessment forms are to be sent to the AAGPS Rugby Convener by 5pm each Wednesday, for the previous round's games.

Grammar play High this week and the 3rds from other schools will play each other this week as well, so that competition starts Saturday too.

Grammar and High each have 1sts, 2nds and 3rds plus A and B teams in the age groups - all matches at Weigall. Will be interested to hear how the day goes.
They play each other but its still trials, comp doesn't start.

2 things: 1) my observation is that if you are going beat joeys at home, you have a better chance early in the season so good luck Shore. Btw my girls go to shore - I'm not joking 2) I know the comp has been close for many years but I think joeys get the best out of the boys they have. It's a small school in terms of numbers. I also watch club rugby and joeys boys that play on are well drilled, perhaps only a small number are brilliant but they are well trained. I'm not an old joey or shore boy btw but I watch a lot of games at hunters hill, lane cove and northbridge.

On another topic, GPS needs to join with cas. The comp is too small and frankly insular. Most dont appreciate this until you leave school and play club rugby. it was good to hear scots trialled against manly colts.
There should be 12 teams. Each play each other once. Then semis for teams with highest points and then final with home ground advantages etc just like the old super 12. The points table should be in the paper each week and hopefully you could get the semis and final televised. This would really lift the comp to another level. The crowds would be huge for the finals. So many old boys would go.
The benefits are obvious but I fear the powers to be in GPS and CAS are perhaps a little arrogant to even get together for a chat. Instead of worrying about what to do with the weakness teams (grammar and high)
, how about think about how take the strongest teams to the next level.

In the event of a tie this will sort the men from the boys! Good call on the Captains speech! In addition to match reports, can we have HJ's above criteria assessed as well? :)

Tom Waterhouse should field on the games too - that would be a whole new level and he is an old boy.
They could have their own TV show.
There must be some other ways to blow schoolboy rugby out of all proportion, perhaps Eddy McGuire could be recruited?
I don't think these kids (!) should really be allowed do the HSC if they're going to play rugby: the risk of distraction is far too great.

Don't give people ideas. We already have pathways, this could be the next step. Stop study at the end of Year 11 and complete HSC year at the end of the GPS rugby season - at TAFE of course so the low results don't even go to your school.:)

Good luck to all High and Grammar teams at Weigall tomorrow, I sense that the place of games in schools will be in proportion down there. Hope to hear about 11 games of close rugby.

Joeys line up for this weekend
1. Oscar Sykes
2. Teirney Glasson
3. Matt Sandell
4. Koim Wingti
5. Linden Deans
6. Rory Gallagher
7. Paddy O'Brien
8. Ned Hanigan
9. Pat Curtain
10. Andrew Deegan
11. Latrell Robinson
12. Willo McDonell
13. Kurtis Bennent
14. Tim McCutcheon
15. Mason Cohen

The pack looks very strong, maybe the best in GPS. The backine is looking pretty slick now and the back 3 are very dangerous, some absolute speed demons. Joeys by 15

I don't know about the gambling. Just simple coverage on abc like they do with Shute shield would be great. 6 teams is simply too small and they are now playing 12 rounds anyway so no extra time away from hsc duties. keeping the boys grounded is an issue.
But, certainly amongst the old gps and cas boys that i know, and these guys also played after school, and have kids at these schools now, a combined best teams comp from GPS/CAS and perhaps CHS is seen as a 'no brainer'. Check out the school comps in nz - much broader. I think if some of the private schools are getting touched up by the lesser known schools the kids would remain grounded.

Perhaps they need to get lives?

A few changes to last weeks lineup? Deegan back to 10 and McDonnell in at 12 is a good move and will improve the attack. I agree that the backline does look pretty exiting.
Paddy O'Brien back from injury is a bonus. Jono Hardy out - injured or dropped? From what I saw the Kings no 3 Bateman worked him over in the scrums last week getting a good win against the feed in one scrum. Whilst Sykes deserves his shot at no 1, I thought that Marcus Cutler was the more impressive prop in Joeys seconds last weekend - went very well in the scrums and did a lot of work around the field.

It's actually not that funny.
There will be a number of kids selected in the NSW squad this year, that will not be getting an ATAR.
They are at school simply for a jumper and to improve their Rugby CV.
Apparently for some of these kids, there is no plan B.

It has been for years for the Afternoon teas. Very competitive lot, the Rugby Mums. Cricket is even worse :) :)
That can get outright vicious...

Shores Lineup for the Weekend:

1. Pedrana
2. Stump
3. Streeter
4. Cooke
5. Olver
6. Lawson Muir
7. Woodhill
8. Wrench
9. Emery
10. Clancy
11. Oldham
12. King
13. Duncan
14. Cooke
15. Clancy

Forward pack looking very strong, even without the currently injured Nathan Lucas, and is shaping up to be one of the stronger packs in the competition. In the backs, this week sees the return of Emery, who at halfback will provide some leadership and structure around the field. The backline definitely isnt the biggest in the comp, but are fast and mobile, and it'll be interesting to see how they go this weekend under the leadership of the Clancy twins at flyhalf and fullback.

Micheal's Picks for the Week:

Shore vs Joeys - it will be a close one, and beating Joeys at Hunters Hill in the first round infront of a sea of pink is no easy task, but my blue and white spectacles lead me to believe the Shore boys have it in them. Shore by 3.

Newington vs View - Newington's size and experience to dominate Riverview, whos inexperience and youth will ultimately let them down. Newington by 13.

Kings vs Scots - Haven't heard much from the Kings side, but the match up of Kellaway vs Tulloch should be a good one, and it'll be interesting to see how Kellaway goes with his new responsibilities as flyhalf. Don't know my own reasoning behind this but my gut tells me Scots by 9.
The View side, while young isn't that inexperienced..at least 8 of the side played in the firsts in 2012, with a few others having experience in the 2nds. Most of the sides seem to have a reasonable mix of yr 11's or under age boys in their sides..So agreed the View team is youngish, but they have got a good mix of experience there as well...that is not to overly promote their chances against New..who also have a few in there with little to no opens experience..
