If you're going to try and win a game with a scrum penalty instead of positive play, you deserve what you get.

There was nothing wrong with going for the penalty, Jackson decided to waste 3-4 minutes on the scrum instead of giving it straight away which fucked us over however.

Weird, if anything, it helped the Tahs, because it made sure that penalty was the last play fo the game and the Crusaders could not come back.
Overall, he was pretty shitty, though, and apart from the first 20 mins, most of the shit went against the Waratahs.
Crusaders were horrible, Fluke Whitelock is crap, though he threw a great pass to Dennis for the Foley try. Funnell was the worst lineout throwing hooker in years.
Bird and Romano were having a competition who can miss the most tackles, and neither were very much involved in teh rucks.
Thought the new prop Laulala went alright for a first start, though O Franks would surely have helped with the scrum.
Carter very good when he starts to take on the line. Ellis far better than Heinz.

Crusaders had a shocking set piece and should have lost IMO. Would have backed Barnes to get that kick 8 times out of 10.

Yeah sure. Teams award penalties themselves these days.
I'm a Tahs fan, so I'll be a tad lenient here.
You're bordering on being a troll, and have been for a while, on more than one thread. Try something useful / positive for once.
Otherwise you may get whacked with the naughty spoooon.

This is the first time I've seen people really dig into Jackson. I honestly think he's one of the best refs in the comp. Obviously in such a tight game there'll be debatable calls (and there were - both ways) but IMO the vitriol towards him in this thread isn't fair, especially on some things that are more law matters than refereeing matters.

It was a good game, and was always going to be decided late. What I think should get a mention is the performance of Dan Carter, he was fantastic, especially when he took the line on. A brave performance from the Crusaders pack, having lost what was it, 4 players during the game? Folau was overshadowed well and truly by Peter Betham tonight too, Betham is a gun.

So let me get this. Glen Jackson a Kiwi was bias towards the Australian team?
In the end It was a good game of rugby and went down to the wire. Both teams had the opportunity to win it. Tah's will look back and kick themselves for some of the games they did not and should have won. Shows importance of winning home games in this competition and knicking a couple when you do play away.

As for Kiwi teams is it me or do they look a bit knakkerd? Looks like the amount of rugby and the enourmous pressure they are under seems to be catching up with a few guys or do NZ seem to have a problem once McCaw decides to call it a day cause I haven't seen anyone yet putting up their hands to step in his shoes. And a player like him can be a massive difference in games. Just look the hole Thompson and Burger left with their irrespective teams under performing.

There was a similar reaction to the reds vs brumbies all aussie grudge match. I think he is actually quite a knowledgeable referee but he doesn't seem to have the guts to make the big calls in pressure situations/ games and lacks the ability to control it in general. That was very obvious in that last scrum where he kept resetting hoping the ball would just be cleared. A penalty needed to be awarded regardless of the way it went, and he would have to cop the criticism regardless. Seems to be a requirement of the referee job "be able to cop sh*t from left right and centre after a game".

Bang on. The stupid thing is that not making a decision IS making a decision -- it's choosing not to award a penalty.

What annoyed me more was the utter lack of advantage in knock on situations and his nonsensical calls about whether the ball was out of the ruck. Reminded me of his game between the Brumbies and Reds were he screwed the pooch on that front pretty badly.

And yet. Kickable penalty missed.

I have to admit, I didn't have a lot of sympathy for Reds fans after their Brumbies match. I have a lot more now. It always sucks to be on the wrong end of incompetence, even when your team blew it too.

Really happy to see the way they played in that first half, but pretty disappointed when Barnes again came on and the tempo and approach changed. They seemed to stop backing themselves

My pet peeve this season is the way decisions are referred to the TMO. There have been loads of instances of this. If Jackson had said "try or no try" tonight, then it could well have been a very different decision. I'd like to see the call standardized so that the TMO has to determine if a try has been scored. At the moment, it's too dependent on whatever comes out of the ref's mouth.

The biggest 'what the' is the obstruction call on us late in the 2nd. I think it was Lucas? That was just rubbish and looked like a stitch up.
