Looks like our coaches obsession with size is playing off for now.

With a pack like that you can even make Kirchner look good!

One very stoked yappie!

Not as much as Heyneke Meyer. That guy was tripping on something tonight. Enjoyed a huge man hug after the game as well.

Alot of hate om cummins sure he didnt have the best of games but was far from bad. 2 lost balls to begin but after that he was solid line break made metres smashed sideshow and won us a 5m scrum with his follow up give the guy a chance the back 3 had nothing to do with that lose.

And yes i am a badger fan but he did enough to get another go next week did as much if not more that Mogg and tomane in the past.

First impressions.

Boks too big and too strong across the park, but especially in the pack.

Wallabies' scrum is going backwards, litterally and figuratively. Front row was monstered tonight. Think that might be in part due to weakness in the second row. Need some real pushers there. But Kepu was dreadful, and I would be surprised and disappointed if he plays for the Wallabies again. Think we need Robbo at No 1 and Slipper back to No 3. The second row seems to need a complete rework. I look at what is happening to the Wallabies and contrast it with the dominance shown in most Super games by the Brumbies' scrum, and wonder why. Is it better coaching and technique under Jake and Laurie, or better practitioners? Until Horwill is fit again, I'd like to see Fardy and Neville tried at lock. For the EOYT I'd like to see Skelton get a run. We need monsters, and he at least is that in size.

The back row was comprehensively outplayed tonight. This was one area most fans thought the Wallabies would dominate. Until Higgers, Pocock and maybe Palu regain fitness, how do we improve the back row? Mowen is not having a happy time at 8, but is needed for the lineouts where he excels. He should go back to 6, and the best I can think of for 8 would be Luke Jones. I had high hopes for Aeulua, but he didn't finish the Super season off all that well. He just might be the only big man available to try and put some fear (respect) into the opposition however.

Will was again so far below standard tonight, he must be rested. Quade had no real positive effect on the game and made a few of his usual mistakes. Think we need to persevere with White and To'omua for the remainder of the RC and probably bring Foley on to the bench.

AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) disappointed with his selfish running on quite a few occasions when he had support players around him. Honey Badger was poor to begin with but improved a bit as the game went on. Izzy was solid but not spectacular at 15. Think they all need to be persevered with, but AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) needs a kick up the bum for each time he fails to unleash his supports. The whole backline could learn many lessons in attacking play from the Students backline today, even allowing for Tom C at 12.

All in all, the main problem lies with the forwards, especially at scrum time, although they were missing in action many times tonight at the breakdown as well. Changes are needed to the pack and to the way they play the game. Maybe this is a deficiency in the coaching area? Will and Quade need to be replaced until they find their true form.

Another thought. Sitaleki Timani is apparently on his way to Perth as cover for Horwill. After his absolute nonsense game for Southern against Uni he should be no where near the Wallabies. He was little more than a spectator with the best view of the game in today's SS semi final.

Not many positives to be taken from tonight's game really. For some reason, our guys (not just in the team, but also in the super rugby) don't seem to have basic skill sets to draw upon. Passing, tackling, catching, scrummaging, kicking, running, rucking and mauling all seem to be elusive skills to our guys.

Please hit the training paddock and practice guys.

You are not playing well.

Unless most of the Wallabies are not fit or are playing a gameplan that doesn't adapt to them, it is clear now that with such a line-up they're going nowhere.
The lack of physical impact of both fowards and backs combined with the lack of effectiveness of the gameplan plus a strangely lazy and inaccurate halfback means the Wallabies will struggle with each team in this competition.
Time to acknowledge that the players who couldn't play this tournament for a reason or another (Pocock, Timani, Palu, Higginbotham, Ioane, Robinson, Beale, Speight, just to name the first that come to my mind) could still make the difference.

What Link is doing is weird. The problem with the Deans era was a lack of competitive work at the breakdown/line-out time and overall structure. Now they seem to be playing with less.

Fuck me... What a depressing game. Yet again, the pack was beaten up front and we just dropped the ball cold when it mattered. I couldnt count how many times I would stand up and cheer only to collapse back into the seat after a turnover at the breakdown because our forwards were too slow, or we knocked the pill on. The issues with the forwards are more complicated I presume, but fucking hell, how hard can it be to hold onto the ball for a few phases? It's an issue with the whole team, not just single players.

We really are missing some brutes in the forwards (Higgers, Pocock and a fit Palu come to mind) because at the moment we are piss weak at the breakdown. I love Hooper, but he just doesnt have the impact that the bigger boys can have.

I personally thought the backs looked dangerous when they actually pieced a move together without dropping it. But then we'd make the line break and either drop the ball or hit the deck and lose it on a turnover. I personally thought Quade did quite well considering what he had to work with. Challenged the line numerous times, showed pace, intent and kicked quite well. Him and Folau combine effectively and lilo is still looking like quite an effective 12. I'm worried, however, that his kicking is almost lulling the team into a penalty goal approach where we never back ourselves... You could see Cooper calling for a quick tap but we always took the conservative option. Sometimes we just need to say "fuck it" and throw the backs the ball, especially when we can barely get out of our own half without giving a penalty away.

I would have a pretty similar team to RoffsChoice
Slipper, Fainga'a, Kepu, Simmons, Fardy, Mowen (c), Gill, McCalman, White, Cooper, O'Connor, Lealiifano, Horne, Cummins, FOlau
Moore, Robinson, Ryan, Timani, Hooper, Genia, To'omua, Ashley-Cooper

Genia isnt imposing enough as a captain. Need some fire in the forwards too. But I really liked Izzy at fullback. He had a good game there so maybe stick with Cummins instead of Mogg and swap them...

Zander justify why Quade shouldn't be in gold? I hate this concept that when we lose, the immediate conclusion of some is that "its quades fault, he's shit." He was actually one of our better performers.

An utterly shit performance. What a bunch of weak pricks this current Wallaby team is.

Rule number one in rugby: to go wide you must first go forward. In order to go forward you must win the collisions. We got smashed in the tough stuff all night from these blokes, who were not only bigger, but also more committed. We just shrunk from the challenge at every turn. It's just not fucking good enough. Our work at the breakdown was deplorable. I'm calling it now: until Michael Hooper can be a genuine fetcher and win ball at the break down he must make way for Gill. Until we find another back row forward and a lock to clean out for our fetcher, they must also make way for others. You cannot get smashed off the ball as much as we have and expect to win test matches.

I'm also going to call for AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) to sit down. When you play in the centres you must pass the ball. AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) does not and therefore shouldn't be playing there for the moment. The amount of attacking opportunities we squandered tonight because we didn't shift the ball in a timely manner made me want to throw the remote through the TV.

Our scrum was also rubbish. There are a couple of blokes in our pack who would be lucky to get a run in the Yass Rams third grade team, such is their scrummaging ability at the minute. Once again, it's just not fucking good enough.

For those bagging Link, What would Dingo have done differently, and would the score have been any different under Dingo?

I think the results would have been the same, or even worse.

I honestly can't pick it mate. Its similar to what we saw at the reds this year. So much promise and so much opportunity that just goes to waste for whatever reason. Has he gotten too conservative? Are his assistants not the right blokes for the job? Has he lost his touch? I dont know the answer but he is the coach and he has to take some liability.

I don't think Robbie would have done a better job but its certainly vindicating him at the moment.

1. Australia REALLY need to sort out their scrum. You guys have enough mongrel there so surely it is something with the technique. At the very least you should be able to hold your own. The new scrum laws certainly are not to blame here. It has always been a problem for Australia.

2. Will Genia is not captain material. Yes, his form may be a bit off, however, when last did he play behind a pack that at least got some parity?

3. Leali'Ifano was your best back in my opinion, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) made some mistakes but if you take another look also did some good things so was also not that bad.

4. Why run the ball from your own 22? As good as Folau is, you need a boot at the back. Play him on the wing. I think it is evident if you have great backs you can play them wherever as long as the forwards dominate. Willie le Roux is a case in point.

5. Australia will improve. Don't worry.

The problem under RD was they were so inconsistent.
They have been very consistent since he got chopped!
The problem as I see it,is the players Link relied upon heavily in the Reds setup, are not performing in Gold.
His refusal to drop Genia,is a good example.

I'd have an easier time keeping the faith if I was seeing week by week improvement. Well I'm seeing no evidence of it at the moment. And Will, you're part of the problem mate.
