Good point you make there TT in regards to good #10s winning premierships. There was lots of talk down at GPS after the GF about how a standout #10 such as Brandon had much more influence over the game than the GPS #10 McWhirter who is no doubt a solid player but not a star.

If a young gun #10 such as Greene was being added to the Brothers backline where they have some great attacking threats out wide it would no doubt make them a premiership favourite imo.

Brandon like most #10s looks a lot better player when he gets front foot ball - I dare say the GPS#9,#10 & #12 might all have had a better time in the finals if the Toolis boys had stuck around.

I think you might have identified the problem but I think the cause of the problem for GPS was in front of the 9-12 channel, not actually the 9-12 themselves as they were having to do things in the later part of the season that they didn't have to earlier in the season when the Toolis brothers were providing a solid platform. Kite also had a tough time of it in the finals without them behind him.

Not for me to be identifying opportunities for other clubs but is Frisby better served at #15 for GPS and then use Grasso @ #9? It just seemed to me that Frisby tried to do too much in both the Major & Grand Final and that prevented him from doing the brilliant things. At #15 he can pick the right time to strike without the clean up load which is more the half back role that Mullins performs well at for the Tigers.

As for Greene @#10 for Brothers he is more a kicking #10 than a running #10 like Murphy so I don't know whether he would be the saviour for Brothers @ #10 and I don't know whether he has the character to be the man at Brothers. He needs love and he won't necessarily get that at Crosby.

Was at the Wests award night last Friday & one of the recipients mentioned how he was proud that Wests don't pay for players (huge round of applause)

Under the QRU rules clubs are not suppose to pay their players.

SX - Wests are not alone on that front my friend but I don't think that all clubs follow the letter of the law.

I can assure you that Easts don't because they don't have the cash to.

Easts have also had declining colts numbers. Unless this turns around next year our Premier Grade success will be short lived and the lower grades will go back to the dark days of 2012.

Fear not ECA - we had 2.5 colts teams this year and there was plenty of good footballers in the Prem colts e.g. Adam Deck, Henry Olsen, etc who will press for higher grades in the next year or so.

And if you saw the passion and pride which the Colts 1 side play with against Brothers in their last game at Bottomley after the round 17 premier grade game then fear not plenty of these boys will be back with their mates in 2014.

The club is working hard at present securing colts numbers for 2014.

The dark days of 2012 will not return in a hurry, the issues of 2012 have been addressed and we saw steps in the right direction this year with 3 teams making the semis and I think we will improve on that in 2014.

In 1999 two years after we won our first premiership the club had every side make the grand final - success breads success.

Souths are the only club I think to win all the Grand-Finals in a year, from Premier Grade right through to Colts 2,(if they had colts 2 back then I don't know.)
Brothers should have strong representation from Nudgee I imagine next year in the Colts. Does anyone know of any GPS school players going to clubs? I imagine that would be figured out during the off-season around Dec-Jan-Feb.

Yeh Greene definately not the right character for Crosby Road, he is actually a good bloke so would not fit in down at Brothers...........Snap.

This is the moment from which GPS were never going to better Easts in the 2013 final series - post try celebrations after 18 y.o. Michael Gunn ran more than half the length of the field following Blake Enever stealing a GPS lineout on the Easts 22. (Just prior to half time in the major semi.)

Look at the difference in body language between the two teams.

At the end of the day GPS had some talented individuals - Frisby, Kerevie, Kite, Ferguson, etc but Easts were the better team. Teams win premierships not individuals.

I hope you don't have to wait another 17 years GPS before your next crack at a premiership. Grand Finals are tough to get to so you need to take your chances when you get there.

Oh yeh Gunny.jpg

Wow dude,

i thought i was a bad troll/flamer but this is just wrong.

Are you trying to start a hatewar with the GPS supporters on here, opening fresh wounds?

Where is this rule? And do you have a definition of player payments?
Also what's to stop a club member paying a player directly?

Yeh your are 100% correct SX - I shouldn't taunt the boys from Ashgrove.

I apologise unreservedly.

Oh just one more for the road:

They mustn't teach body language at Marist Brothers!!

Ask your club president, and if you want to know how to circumvent the payment system speak to those clubs that blatantly disregard the directive/rule. I won't outline here which clubs they are but we all know who does and doesn't.

I read the comp rules and it's not mentioned anywhere. Seems odd that they would have secret rules about the comp.

They do have a directive from the Board that no QRU staff can coach at Clubs. Maybe they should enforce that one.

Pretty sure there's Easts Colts Coaches who work for the QRU...

Let's all tone it down a little. All these subjects have been discussed a thousand times and there is no point bringing them back up.

Let's also move on from the 2013 final, it happen Easts won and we all get it.

Let's talk 2014......

Let's talk 2014..

TD - go over to the 2014 thread and take your mates who aren't prepared to give credit to the 2013 Premiers but more interested in mud slinging like your mate "Slow to"with his effort of:

Pretty sure there's Easts Colts Coaches who work for the QRU.

{"Slow to" who are you talking about - I think you will find that no Easts coach works at the Reds.}

Go off to the 2014 thread and talk up your love affairs with the Sunnybank, Uni, Brothers, GPS clubs (based on past deeds rather than recent achievements) and your political agenda. Maybe you need another thread - "Speaking xxxx about Brisbane Club Rugby"!

You guys don't want to talk rugby issues you want to keep pushing your own club agendas, be overtly (not tongue in cheek) critical of others and endeavour to defend the sins of some clubs.

I did write myself out previously but came back in to share the joys of Easts finals campaign but you can have your 2014 thread to yourselves. We will continue to bask in Easts success over the summer months and I am sure the boys will work hard over the summer months in preparation to do it all over again in 2014.

Good luck to your club in 2014.

Just one thing - I think for your 2014 thread you should all clearly identify your club allegiance - although it becomes obvious I note that TD, Jets, Stalwart don't proudly fly their club flag. Why?

At least my mate "Southern X" proudly flies his Bulldog flag and I think he gets the balance of club allegiance and best interests of the competition just about right. Keep up the good fight my friend. The compass clubs keep this completion viable by balancing out the four Brisbane clubs who all suffer from superiority complexes and underperformance (given the resources at hand).

I was asked earlier in the season who I don't like in the competition - well there you have it!

And to Easts Coast Aces, Tigerland 12, Pauly, and my other Tiger Tragic contributors keep enjoying the memories of Ballymore 2013 and take up the fight on the 2014 thread.

Arrivederci

{"Slow to" who are you talking about - I think you will find that no Easts coach works at the Reds.}

Regarding this - The Easts premier colts coach (can't remember his name now, Tim?) doesn't actually work in the Reds setup but does work for the QRU with coaching roles and admin, specifically revolving around Queensland 7s programs. Don't have a problem with, just thought I should clarify for those wondering.

Tigers Tale what an interesting place your mind must be. You are happy to throw a bit of chat around but then get upset when people ask you to back it up with evidence or say something about Easts that you don't like.

As for your beloved Easts, you have every right to be proud of what they have achieved in 2013. They were the best team in the comp and deserved to win the Premiership. They have also managed to unearth a bit of talent, especially young Gunn.

If you are actually going this time does that mean that Don't be chirpin will return?
