Is this irony or hypocrisy? Adam Goodes attacks a young girl for calling him an ape and is rewarded by being made Australian of the Year. Boyo re-posts a cartoon showing our PM as an ape and is rewarded with howls of laughter.
At the very least, double standards are in play.

Do you really not get why calling Adam Goodes an ape is racist?

The cartoon above is not trying to say Tony Abbott looks like a monkey. It's also not suggesting that he's an air force pilot in his spare time.

formerflanker,

Don't be so precious.

The cartoonists had a field day with Rudd and Gillard.

Cartoonists have had fields days with Australian PMs since federation. Billy Hughes was always a favourite, as was Menzies (who had far better eyebrows than Howard, and my all time favourite was the depictions of Hawke. I also thought the "Rubbery Figure" of Hawke an absolute classic.

Couldn't do one of Julia though, that would be the hight of misogyny.

FFS, This blaming the carbon tax for every manufacturing downturn is a conservative furfy. The high dollar has been running riot in the sector long before the carbon tax.

Add to that the major input costs of wages, environmental (ie don't dump that waste in the river) and working conditions make the costs of production in Australian far higher. The carbon tax has little impact at all compared to these factors

Another consideration when you think of energy intensive industries is that a cleaner and greener process at the point of manufacture is also used as very productive marketing instrument which has lead to cleaner energy conversions in many manufacturing plants. The same theory has also been used in their water usage and subsequent re usage. These are success stories so you just don't get many make the news.

We must also be very careful in what industries we are happy to let go as they often produce the required materials for the cleaner technology. Aluminium is a good example of this.

I would also submit (as I did earlier in this thread) that Aluminium production is essential to the stability of the Electricity Grid as it supports base load generation.

Mate, have a bex and a lie down.

What absolute garbage. The bow you are drawing is so long, it is actually that I find offensive.

I liked this mostly because you have a pet pig. Not because it has bushy eyebrows.

Thanks for the link boyo.
An interesting quote in that article was "The Anglican Church has told the Abbott government to change its approach to climate change, urging it to respect and base its policy on scientific evidence."

The latest scientific evidence shows the globe has not warmed for 17 years and 10 months; " This is the longest continuous period without any warming in the global instrumental temperature record since the satellites first watched in 1979." (WUWT, July 3, 2014.)
I think the Anglican church needs to update its climate knowledge.

I am assuming that WUWT is a reference to Anthony Watt's blog.

To start with, Watt quotes Christopher Monckton on the page you refer to which, to any sensible person, would immediately doubt that Watts is approaching the science in an impartial fashion, given Monckton has been shown to play fast and loose with the truth when it suits him.

Second, the data he refers to in the satellite measured lower troposphere temperature. This is a surprisingly narrow temperature set. What about all the other measured temperatures, do they show such a trend? No, hence the choice of a narrow dataset to suit his outcome, given he openly states he is a sceptic and his affiliation with people like Monckton show he is a denier, not an impartial expert.

Third, he ignores the fact that the measurement of troposphere temperature by satellite has been shown to be inaccurate (compared to direct measurement by balloon sensor) and needs to be corrected to properly reflect the troposphere's temperature: http://www.skepticalscience.com/satellite-measurements-warming-troposphere.htm. Watts admits on his webpage that he interprets the raw data from the Remote Sensing System using an algorithm that has been verified by a professor in Melbourne. No where on this page does Watts identify that the algorithm has been the subject of a peer review and publication to verify its accuracy. In fact the data on the RSS's own webpage shows a steady upward trend: http://www.remss.com/measurements/upper-air-temperature. The page carefully lists the peer reviewed publications that Watts' page does not.

I do agree with you that some people need to update their climate knowledge. At this point, the Anglican Church does not seem to be one of them.

formerflanker, you and I, and others like Scotty share the same mindset on Global Warming.
On this forum, we face a "cult-like group", namely boyo, matty_k, BPC, etc, etc, ably led by Braveheart 81. I don't seek to try to change their point of view, (which is around "10 years out of date"). Yes, we had minimal warming in specific areas of 'mother earth' up to 2006 [BTW, 6,000 years ago, parts of the River Nile stopped flowing for 200 years!], however, as we are now in a period of Solar Hibernation, and that scenario is reversed.
Solar Hibernation is also accompanied by more volcanic eruptions, (5,000 volcanoes are under-sea), and more major earthquakes. I bet Braveheart81 and co haven't investigated this fact?
No amount of arguing with these 'converts', will achieve anything, so that's why I don't!
Braveheart81 once said to me "provide the links to back your argument", (or words to that effect). Lazy bastard!
I say to him and to the other , (let's call them "Hot Heads"): stop typing "Global Warming" into your search engines, and type in : "Global Cooling". You will discover a 'new world' of 'facts', not 'computer projections', by (so called) "climate scientists" [seeking Govt. funding to continue their dubious research].

formerflanker, you may not be aware of the fact that the BOM and CSIRO "computer modelling" released at this time of year (July-August), in 2010, advsed that: South East Queensland could expect a "hotter and dryer 2010-11 summer than normal"!! That was, of course the summer which delivered near-record floods [and lower-than-average summer temperatures] in SEQ! At the time, an amateur weather forecaster (living to the north of Brisbane), rang 612 ABC Brisbane (yes the ABC), to say that he was deeply concerned that the current conditions 'mirrored' the conditions that led up to the record floods in SEQ, in 1974!
Three months later, the BOM and the CSIRO came on board, and started singing from the same 'song sheet'!
It is worth noting, that the then-Brisbane Lord Mayor (one Campbell Newman), cancelled his annual holidays, (which pissed off his wife Lisa), because, (as an engineer), he could see the possibility of a disaster approaching!

And that disaster did materialise!

I leave you all with this thought (you wont like this Bravehaert81):

By Wednesday, (or Thursday at the latest), this week, there will be snowfalls from Tasmania to the New England district of NSW.
They may even extend into Queensland (Stanthorpe)!!
I rest my case, your honour, (aka BH81).

Go the Reds in 2015, or 2016, 2017, 2018, or whenever!!

Mr Doug,

You do yourself a great disservice by labelling me, and others, as members of a "cult-like group".

If you want to base your understanding on a bunch of bloggers and well funded lobby groups with the sole intention of avoiding action on climate change there's very little point trying to reason with you.

At the end of the day you can choose to believe what you want. If you honestly believe the overwhelming majority of climate scientists have got it completely wrong then no one else is going to convince you otherwise.

Mark Steyn is one of the bloggers you refer to but it is not his personal beliefs that he uses to oppose AGW. He shows that many reputable scientists have contrary views, and he lists them extensively here: http://www.steynonline.com/6455/allegheny-front-group
That is a long list of reputable scientists who cast extreme doubt on the theory of AGW.
On your point of "well funded lobby groups", I would hasten to remind you that Global Warming researchers are extensively funded by governments. To an extent that towers over the funding for any scientists trying to find the real truth about the changes to our climate.
