Might as well have just called them Gold Coast and waited for an actual Country team to come in. Toowoomba, Sunshine Coast, Rockhampton types all have the right to be annoyed. One game in Townsville does not make it "Country".

One game in Townsville doesn't make it country but two games on the Gold Coast makes it 'Gold Coast' ?

OK, now we've got the draw sorted, next question: where, when & for how much can I buy a jersey or polo?
Asics are doing all of the gear. Hopefully they get so,e confirmed kit out soon. It lifts the excitement level.

Not certain as that's what I initially thought too but in the recent media releases it's been saying that both QLD teams will train out of Ballymore. That and of their four home games (4 different venues), only one is being played at Bond says to me that Ballymore is their base then.

Edit: just realised they will have two games at Ballymore too. One home and one away.

Following on from my post on the City page yesterday here is some background on some players who could be in the Country team

Sunnybank Rugby

Haydn Hirsimaki - Haydn is one of the best loose head props in the Premier competition. He has previously played for the Sunshine Coast Stingrays, QLD Country and Aust Barbarians. Haydn is a great scrumager and also has good leadership skills. I am expecting him to be a strong part of the Country team.

Brendan Mitchell - Brendan is another former Stingray who made the move to Sunnybank in the off season. He is a backrower who has being playing lock. Has a great work ethic and very busy around the field. His brother Connor plays for Uni and they could both be part of the Country set up.

Lolo Fakaosilea - Lolo is a former Australian Schoolboy and 2014 Aust U20 player. A strong running number 8 he has slipped into Premier rugby with relative ease. Lolo grew up in Emerald and should use the NRC to push claims for a Reds contract in the future.

Mitch Third - Mitch was the Aust schoolboys 10 in 2013 and graduated straight into Premier. Over the season he has developed into a great game manager and can lead his team around the park with his level head. From the Gold Coast Mitch would benefit from training with the squad and being used off the bench. Can use the NRC to push for a U20's spot next year.

Jake McIntyre - Jake was the 2014 Aust 20's fly half. Less known that other young Qld 10's due to being away with rep footy the NRC is the perfect opportunity to show everyone what a great talent he is. I expect Jake to be the starting 10 for Country after playing for Qld A earlier in the year.

Two other honors:
- Started loose-head for Combined Country against the Lions last year
- Played a 10 min cameo appearance at the end of the game as a reserve in a Reds A match against Pumas this year in the Pacific Cup

Haydn is my nephew so I look forward to the NRC if his selection does happen.

huh...

Just saw at this link - http://www.redsrugby.com.au/NRC.aspx

"Playing lists, player profiles and team related content will be added from 1 August when NRC squads are announced."

So August 1 will be the public announcement?

Suspect players will know before then though.

Apparently players will not train until they have finished their club season. So if you play in the GF you have less time with the team.

That's a shame. Non rebels are already training weekly for rising

It makes sense, it's just like Wallaby selection and Super Rugby, you don't call the guys into the Wallaby squad while their team are in the Super Rugby final

There is probably more of a requirement for it there than here. A lot of the guys in these teams will have played with and against each other for the last 5 or so years in rep teams and will be pretty experienced coming together in a short period of time. Still I'd prefer to be country who have a couple more days to sort things out with such a short time frame.

Vili is playing prems for GPS and has been on a few trip with the tonga team the past few years. I thought he was only 25/26

Yeah, Vili has a couple of Tongan Caps now so not so what the situation is for players who can't go on to represent the Wallabies?

Would Logan count as Qld Country? In which case could Quade be a "Country Player" on his return from injury? And depending on his comeback schedule, a chance to play the curtain raiser to the Argentina Test?

This story originally had him due to return mid-September. Qld Country play that curtain raiser on the 13th of Sept.
