Nah, he's a superstar. Everyone in rugby in the world knows him, and from an Aussie perspective everyone interested in sport in Australia knows him. He's worth heaps. Only Cooper and maybe (unfortunately) Beale and Oconner have a similar profile that crosses sporting boundaries.

Have to agree with Brendan here.
There are different ways to judge worth. Sure he's probably worth the same or less as others in a game winning sense. Slipper might be more essential to the Wallabies for winning games.
But IF is definitely worth the most for ticket revenue, advertising etc.

Bums on seats is all that matters because any cross code coverage invariably relates to (a) how easy it is to make it in rugby with a league background (b) how he is dying to get back to mungo land (c) how we'll be Rooned when he takes off for France/Japan (d) how he doesn't want to play if the ARU treat KB (Kurtley Beale) as he deserves to be treated.

No question Izzy has been used well by the ARU in publicity and xlEarly the most valuable from that aspect.
However his on field play hasn't warranted that. He is no more valuable to the team as several others. Yep he's scored some good individual tries but many of them would have been scored by others , playing in the same position.
It really is hard to me to reconcile the respective values of say Izzy and Hooper on the playing field when the monetary value of Izzy is probably 3 times the difference

I would guess that Izzy has a much higher value to sponsors, and that is how players make money off the field.
I understand he doesn't have any issues collecting third party agreements, he is a clean cut, well spoken and risk free representative for a brand
As for his on field value, some of you are harsh, there is clear daylight between him and our next options at 15 despite his known weaknesses, his strengths in taking the high ball and hole running/support play should not be underestimated

My point only was that particularly Kepu is by far and away the best in his spot and is probably more value to the team than Israel.
The distance between Keps and the next is miles but the distance between Israel and the next is not quite as far

Players aren't paid based on their value in winning the game, they're paid on the value they bring to whomever is paying them. Folau clearly brings more value to the NSWRU/ARU than Kepu, Slipper or any other rugby player. You can dislike it all you want, but all the TV coverage, public interest and international competition wouldn't exist without this corporate side to the game.
I think the point is that not all of Folau's earnings come from the ARU.
Sponsors aren't paying him on the basis of his relative value to the team.

I agree with you.
Its also about winning fucking games of rugby. We win fuckall then sponsers will desert us bigtime.
So what's your point? That companies should direct their dollars in order of importance to the team rather than importance to their brand?
Everyone agrees with the fact that our props are two of the most important players in the team but it has nothing to do with their overall income.

No of course not - but maybe the ARU needs to pay extra dollars from THEIR coffers for the very good RUGBY players who are in demand for their prowess on the rugby park.
If a bloke gets third party deals worth squillions because of being a good athlete, good looking or whatever good on him.

I don't think it is just about money. Kepu signed a three year deal where he will get to greatly reduce his travel and be able to spend a tonne more time with his young family.
He'll be paid very well but he was already being paid very well.
The big dollar increases for the foreign contracts are for the guys who aren't getting a guaranteed top up and being selected for every test.
