Well done to the Reds on a gutsy win.

Despite the fact that it was a shame that JOC (James O'Connor) didn't get onto the pitch it was great to see Lachlan Turner back on the pitch and contributing after a horror 2014 through injury.

Kerevie & CFS looked a lot better than in round 1- but was that just a case of the improved forwards effort which allowed Genia & Frisby to give the #12 & #13 some front foot ball?

Just food for thought - after the Reds destroyed the Force scrum should Nick Stiles not Michael Foley be the one that is appointed as the Wallabies Forwards Coach?

Stiles does tend to polarise people but you can't argue with his S15 track record - he made the Force a dominate set piece team and he looks as if he is finally achieving the same with the Reds.

The players speak very highly of Stiles.

Tigers Tale I'm with you on Stiles.

As a player I must admit I thought he was a bit of a dick - came across as a quite arrogant. He was known as The General because he stood back, watched and pointed a lot. Then he came back as a coach a couple of years later and I completely revised my opinion of him. As a coach he's very knowledgeable, extremely approachable, and really honest with players. He manages to see what is going wrong, he knows how to fix it, but even more importantly, he knows how to communicate it to players. He's also not afraid to have a hard conversation.

On a personal level he's friendly and really happy to chat to anyone and everyone, which isn't something I could've said about him as a player.

I'd put his results in the NRC right up there with his forwards coaching at Super level.

I haven't been to Brothers this year, but apparently the coaching staff are working hard with Taniela Tupou at scrum time. He is doing very well - especially with the help of Anthony Matheson.

Brothers front row is looking intimidating with;

1. Tabalala/Bennie
2. Mafi
3. Thor

Backline will most likely stay the same as last year. I think the depth at Brothers is starting to increase, which is a good sign.

That's good to hear Filth. Brothers with a strong forward pack will be dangerous. I've heard the numbers in colts are decent as well which is a good sign.

GPS are looking a bit under-done in the grades at the moment but I'm sure a few clubs are in the same boat due to the weather. Having only had one trial and no real teams set down at Yoku it means this weekend will be very important to get things sorted from Prems all the way down to 5th grade.

The most pleasing aspect of the Reds Scrum the other night was that they achieved that penalty try whilst Slipper & Horwill were sitting on the bench, which says to me that whatever the message from Stiles is, it is getting through to the younger members of the squad.

How's your mob looking, TT?

I heard Matt Randell played well for University against Eastwood. I think he got a meat pie as well. I personally reckon he is better than Ready, especially through starting the 2013 GF and Australian Club Championship. I don't really know why someone would go to Uni, it's the club of hookers (rugby hookers that is) with Moore, Tessman, Hanson, Maafu, Fidow, Randall, etc. There's plenty of competition at that club, I would of stayed at Easts.

I think Randell is more focused on his career in medicine than his rugby these days. There are a few quality players at the club whose real careers are getting in the way of their amateur rugby (Thompson, Tuffley, Porter), so they'll often come off the bench instead of starting, or play reggies. Or miss a week.

Of those listed, Uni won't see Moore, Tessmann or Hanson, I haven't seen Fidow yet (he's been overseas, and his carpentry/building career is starting to take off too).

Filth - I think it fair to say that the Tigers will be flying under the radar this season.

We won't have the depth that your club has but if we can get close to our best 15 on the paddock we will be competitive.

There are a few new faces which will add a bit of starch to the Tigers.

I think top 4 would be an excellent outcome but think they may well finish a few wins short of that mark.

Randell is not an Easts player anymore so my level of interest in him is minimal. However despite the fact that he provided great service to the Tigers particularly in 2013 when Ready went on a sabbatical, he is not as strong a player as Ready. You only have to look at what Ready displayed in the NRC to understand why many at the Reds (not just at Tigerland) rate him very highly.

He just has to bide his time but I think he may well be lost to the Reds in 2016 due to lack of opportunity, which would open up an opportunity for someone to be the Tigers Prems hooker in 2016!

Cat_A - I have to disagree from what I understand Randell went to Uni with the specific purpose of playing Prems to get further exposure and nail an NRC spot. He thought he couldn't do that stuck behind Ready at the Tigers.

Good luck to him but I think he will end up playing a lot of Reserve Grade at Uni.

TT I must admit I haven't asked, I've only assumed based on what I know of the time & rostering demands placed on junior docs. It seems like a bloody big commitment that would need to take precedence over a game.

Penalty Try was off a tight head too.... was well deserved.
Not only win the ball of them, but then turn their attacking scrum, into a defensive scrum and then watch it crumble under the pressure.
Reds scrum had them under the pump all night. He could of given a penalty try on the other side of the field a few mins earlier.

Anyway... I'm a back... I have no idea. :D

Reds depth will be tested over the coming weeks with injuries and dramas.

Magnay impressed. A turn over or two and his positional play was spot on. Would have helped having Turner at the back helping him.

Probably not the thread... but who is the next #10?? Frisby was ok... but you could tell he was a 9 filling in.

With Samu, Kuridrani and the like outside, they really a 10 who will control things. How far away is QC (Quade Cooper)?

Hunt - gone (hopefully)
JOC (James O'Connor) - who knows?
QC (Quade Cooper) - soon I hope
Duncan P - injured?
???

Norths vs Souths Prems tomorrow at Norths at 7pm.

perhaps keep the Reds chat in either the Reds thread or the respective match thread.

Keep this thread for specific Prem Rugby chat

It will be interesting to know which club Karmichael was going to. Spewing if it was Brothers. Not that we have white line fever, but more that one or two games with him as fullback/back utility would of been helpful.

Though, I don't think he was going to Brothers to begin with. I only heard of JOC (James O'Connor) and Thor.

Filth with Hunt living at Hendra he was a special to play for your mob.

Anyhow let's consider this if the ARU/QRU/S15 rule him out for the season why then couldn't he link with a Qld Prem Club and play the full season - if he wanted to.

Reg would the QRU step in and prevent it?

I think ASADA might have a bigger say TT. 4 years for supplying so that would keep him out of all sport until he was 32.

I think that TT is talking about the pregnant pause between being charged and the main court case to establish whether he is guilty or not guilty as charged. This can be somewhat protracted while both teams lawyers get all the ducks lined up in pretty rows.

ASADA would have a tough gig to justify issuing a 4 year ban for supplying before the courts have considered the evidence.

If he is stood down from Pro Footy by ARU and QRU, I reckon that would also apply to affiliates of those entities as well. Interesting ethical argument given the individuals right to a presumption of innocence.
It would be a pretty risky position for a Club to take to play him while he has been stood down pending legal proceedings.

Yeah good point.

I'm pretty sure he wouldn't want to be running around on a park where spectators are only 5m away giving him a mouthful.

Hugh 7,000 likes I thought Reg was good with 4,300 - did you start posting when you were 12?

How Jets has 2,000 like I do not know and I'll never ever narrow my gap with the Filth at 700 v my 200.

I'd say that the Trainer GB will have me covered by mid season if Norths string a few wins together - interesting trial result v Souths. What were the relative strengths of the trial side?
