McCalman is staying, he has resigned with the Force, and with the exception of Kepu and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), Genia/White and maybe Higgonbotham, the rest are either at that point where the bank accounts need a top up, or are not in the top 2 players in their position. Cooper maybe the exception, however would currently have him behind Foley & To'omua at 10, so he is ranked 3. With the form of the Rebels half, i expect he will be the new backup 9 to Phipps

Can we introduce some auto correct into this forum which changes 'resigned' to 're-signed'.

Pretty simple, I'd imagine Edinburgh is getting help from the SRU to pay for him because they want him to eventually play for Scotland but if he plays for the Wallabies that's off the table so his deal is off too.

So Cheika must pick him at least for TRC. After WC he could be a good option as impact player for Wallabies

Is that because we're in the habit of limiting people's professional careers because we might use him off the bench every now and again?

You make it sound as though been selected to represent Australia is a burden, if he didn't want to represent Australia then he only has to say that. He should count himself lucky if he is presented with the honour of running out to represent the Wallabies.. Even if he does, he can still have a long and lucrative professional career, probably more so.

In the context of the post I responded to - which suggested Cheika "must" choose him for TRC primarily to stop him from moving to Scotland - it would be below the line to do that.

If he is a genuine selection, it is a different story. But my post was a response to a specific suggestion.
