That RG post game press conference is one of the saddest things I've ever seen in professional sport. It's right up there with Link plodding off down the hallway alone after his last Wallabies test as HC. For clarity, I'm being serious, no sarcasm intended. There's just the glassy look in his eyes of a man who's had his dreams completely and utterly crushed.

I firmly believe that RG is not cut out for coaching at this level and I absolutely want the Red's to ditch him ASAP, but I do feel really sorry for him. He clearly believed (up to this point at least) that he could succeed and it's sad to watch anyone with belief fail, more so when they appear to be a genuinely nice guy.

Rag on him all you like but if he were that bad he wouldn't have been starting in a scrum which has dominated the opposition the last two weeks. Yeah yeah yeah it's 'poor opposition', but that's the whole point isn't it, to be better then your opposition.

Yes. Until you meet real opposition it's great fun.

He would not play ITM in NZ, CC in SA or anything in the Northern Hemisphere because he cannot scrum if his life depended on it.

"It's interesting to go back on social media and this forum to when Frawley was appointed to conduct the review.

......

Frawley is now the top man. This week will tell us a lot about both the short and long term future of the Reds."
This is going to either prove to be a stroke of genius or another example of why nepotism should be illegal.

For those who haven't seen it. The Press Conference V Force

http://video.news.com.au/v/441989/Reds-press-conference

I am amazed that they are certainly playing like England and looking to score three points of scrums instead of using it to launch genuine attacks from. "No reward" for their dominance was used at least 5 times by both RG and Simmons. Just stupidity to keep doing something even when the official interpretations this year clear put the emphasis being on the scrum as a restart and the ball is to be cleared as soon as it reaches the back of the scrum (and it is static), and as for playing for cards, NSW got two yellows in the game and they still never looked like winning that game in all honesty.

A brief reading of the statistics looks great for RG with the metres gained in running, rucks etc. But hold those stats in mind while you watch the replay and you see that the running metres would be far different is they measured running metres in + and - in relation to each gain line at each breakdown. I would seriously suggest the running metres under such an interpretation would be close to negative with one set of stats I saw showing the Reds had a gain line success of about 60%.

Finally I saw this morning Michael Foley lending support for Graham talking about brave organisations etc, with obvious reference to his sacking from NSW. I had hoped that he had finally learnt and developed as a coach to understand that the risk averse game doesn't win enough games and loses the supporter base even faster than the games. When you send your Province broke and empty the stadiums Michael it is an idiotic organisation that doesn't sack that coach and staff (and those who appointed and reappointed him). Some reports coming in now to suggest that the Reds crowd and interest levels have plunged back to what they were pre 2009, the time to act was two years ago, serious damage has again been done to the foundations of support for the Reds.

But Michael Foley wasn't sacked from NSW. They did a review and reappointed him for 3 years (my memory is a bit hazy but know he was reappointed). This came after he offered to step down as head coach to an assistant coach position. He left the 'tahs a month later to take up a four year offer to join the Force.

They signed him for three years at the end of 2011 and then he resigned after one due to getting the offer from the Force.

Waratahs management had endorsed him to keep coaching in 2013 after a shocking 2012 but it is untrue that he was given a new contract or anything.

Rumours of unrest in the Coaches box doesn't really surprise me after the first trial game.

If this is actually true, all 3 should be shown the door by the end of the year.

Found it interesting the Reds were happy to promote that Reddit graphic showing they have the most social media followers. Crowds less than the Brumbies in Canberra, but you know, social media is all that matters.

That doesn't even take into account that a quick examination will show a staggering number of their "fans" are fake profiles. Not sure whether a social media manager thought was a good idea to buy likes or if it happened organically, but when at least 1/3 are fake, probably not something to crow about.

As many former test players have demonstrated, a test career does not equate to quality commentary. And I particularly dislike Martin's commentary. But respect where it's due, Martin has played more tests, tour matches and matches for his state than 99.94% of this forum's members.

Exactly right.

It was a disappointing trip to Suncorp BUT at least I made the effort.

Moving forward RG should be gone this week. He has no supporters among the playing group, other coaches, fans and now probably the Board. Why wait any longer.

Install O;Connor and lets get on with it.

Just a note. Only RG and MOC in the box. Stiles is with his feet on the ground (literally - running water). He's also the only one to talk (pre game warm up) about excessive flyhalf depth - in a way that sounded like he meant it and was trying to do something. He is also responsible for the only Red strength, the set piece.

Stiles stays. Do what you want with the other peanuts, but removing Stiles would be an instant removal of this supporter. If anything, you'd think he would have his cv in front of Michael Cheika.

Frawley needs to take control NOW and put his stamp on the place. While he is at it a cleanout of the person responsible for talent identification and/or retention.
Shit - I need to hear some good news

Everything you say is accurate but if he isn't lining up 100% behind RG while he is there that's a huge problem. You can't have a coach sabotaging a team/another coach no matter how incompetent he is.

*Marto didn't just say those in the box, he said all three coaches.

I think it's fair to say that if they didn't align (or hold their tounge) with RG they'd be gone by now... think John Connolly.. they had no problems sacking him.

I agree that Phil Mooney might be worth consideration for an interim coach (at least until a successor can be scouted). I think his work for the reds in 2008/2009 was probably underrated, although he clearly had taken the young squad as far as he could at the time given his lack of experience. He certainly had the Reds playing an enterprising, exciting brand of footy though. The fans really could use some of that right now.

Phil Mooney seems like a better bet as a skills / assistant coach. Look at his record.

His one success as head coach was with Aus U/19's ten years ago. He coached a team of the best guys of that age Australia has seen in one team for a long time.

He rightly got recognition for that and moved up to skills coach with the Reds and had a positive impact in that role. When he took over as head coach he couldn't convert those better skills and attacking flair into results.

When he lost that job, he went to Otago in the NPC as head coach. He didn't improve their results either.

He then went back to club land at Wests as head coach and whilst their results improved, it wasn't enough to win more than they lost or even to make finals.

He left Wests to go to Japan where he was a skills coach and then backs coach.

There is no history since Aus U/19's in 2006 of success as a head coach.

The Reds need a head coach with a track record of success. If they'd followed that mantra last year RG wouldn't have been reappointed. Surely they can't afford to take another punt.

I dont know. RG held his job, but I doubt very much that MOC was a choice he put forward.

@Thinker, wasnt having a go, just really dont want to see the baby thrown out with the bath water. Any attempt to look for positives at the Reds lists out Stiles. I think he's supported RG through years of pain.

MOC is a different situation and he wouldnt be doing his job if he wasnt talking internally. It doesnt however make him the right man for the job. What we dont want, is the sniff of politics hanging around after any decission.

It is not just a matter f RGs tenure. But whatever happens lets not lose Stiles.
