It's what I love a about schoolboy rugby; the competitiveness and the passion that each boy has for their emblem on their chest can produce amazing performances. .

Well said @BW...... you've distilled the essence of this comp into one beautifully crafted sentence!

While the predictions for Kings have been positive it's much harder to live up to the hype especially when, for the first time in many years, all sides in this comp are so evenly matched. Put it this way I'm sure no one at North Parramatta is bullish enough to be rushing out to buy a fresh supply of Silvo!!!!;)

Ditto that Az.

Will be fascinating to revisit my 'best guesses' after round 1.5, even 1.1. The only thing I do know is am I going to be wring with a few of those predictions. Just don't know which ones

Too true Rich... Someone mentioned in the this thread a few pages back that it was unlikely that any one team will get through this season without a loss and that we could end up with joint premiers. That sounds like a pretty fair assessment to me.

Round 1.5 is where I think predictions will begin to be grounded in reality rather than just pre-season form or speculation.

We should do a full mid season wrap and assessment where we can revisit predictions. And laugh at how far off the mark I was.

What do you reckon LG?

@Azzuri, your favorites now. You have been talking them up for ages now. You cant get out of it.

May it be a curse like being favorite in the Melbourne cup.

Meanwhile, back at North Sydney the Underdogs are quietly doing their thing.

Bring on Saturday,

My prediction is that Shore will go through the season undefeated.

When presented with the trophy, they will suddenly realise they don't have a trophy cabinet - never needed one before. They will opt to build a new grandstand on the eastern side of the ground, the current one is getting old anyway. As an interim measure, they will place the trophy cabinet in the canteen next to the pies.

C'mon @NIS, how can you say that? I've been a paragon of measurement and restraint, merely regaling you and the other correspondents with tales of past conquests. And I have to say I fully expect to be eating some humble pie along the way , but hoping its not more than a wedge or two.

So here we are again on the starting grid, with pole position having been awarded based on practice lap times and with every driver's gaze focused on the race ahead. Hopefully all drivers get through turn 1 unscathed and that its a ding dong battle for the full 10 laps all the way to the chequered flag!

@Loiterer you know you are speaking about the dual crown? i.e The Premiership and the POTY. I'm not sure that anyone has ever managed the double. EVER!

I'll need @NIS to step in here and provide some inputs.

  • Is Shore ready to carry such a heavy burden?
  • Is their room for the premiership shield on the top of the pie warmer next to the sauce bottles
  • Why would Shore want a Premiership when they already have the POTY locked up?
Enlighten us @NIS!;)

that Rixon is pretty damn fast ... Shore might be a real chance

it is going to be a very interesting first round

tipping Joeys over View ...in the match of the round ... with the difference being Wilkinson and Jafer-Williams

tipping Shore over Scots in an upset .. with Rixon running amuck

and in an arm wrestle I think Newington will be too good for Kings ... with Simonsen being the difference

Not sure where to put this or if it's already been said, but along side the usual competition, it is worth having an under-weight competition with teams made up of players under a certain weight? Might encourage more people to play rugby at school - particularly at schools where it is on the decline.

Riverview will prevail over Joeys.

Newington to top Kings in a close one

Shore to beat Scots at Northbridge

Did someone forgot the prediction from Rich E,look like he need a plenty of hat. Seeing everyone picking the underdog to win the first round.
Will be awesome to see shore beat Scots, will be highligh of the decade.

Azzuri, I am not sure that shore is confident about retaining POTY. There are 10 rounds of GPS rugby but only 5 rounds of GPS POTY. It's a high stakes competition, one slip and you are gone. There is talk of other schools offering Masterchef scholarships (Hotel California here we come). I've heard that Newington is importing chefs from the inner west.

The official AAGPS tipping comp needs tips for 1st XV, 2nd XV & 3rd XV fixtures.

Tipping only 1st XV results will probably not get you a Guernsey in the Tipping Comp, and also allow others a potential 7 point head start each round.
