With Combined States, is it likely for players from say CHS 2s CAS 2s to get picked or will they go straight for the shadow players?

Team selections reflect the opinions of one group of blokes.

To the best of my knowledge the selectors for Combined States are different from the NSW Schools RU selectors.

They will choose who they think warrant selection. Possibly from Shadow Squads, possibly from left field a bloke who may have been unwanted by their school association selectors but is playing well in Colts or Senior Club footy in the country.

Combined States just represents another group of blokes opinions of who they think should deserve a shot in front of the ASRU selectors.

Quick Hands

David Wilson (68)
CHS, 6 (2 NSW 1, 4 NSW 2)
Westfields SHS 2 (1 NSW 1, 1 NSW 2)
Ashcroft HS 1 (1 NSW 1, 0 NSW 2)
Kariong Mtn HS 1 (0 NSW 1, 1 NSW 2)
NBSC Cromer 1 (0 NSW 1, 1 NSW 2)
Hills SHS 1 (0 NSW 1, 1 NSW 2)

State comprehensives only supply 3 boys even though about 65-70% of students go to those schools. Problem for rugby as a sport. (No suggestion of selectors not getting it right, just an observation about where our players come from)

Also does anyone know what junior districts all these guys come from?

Just that I am aware of -

Gordon - 10 Ongasia (was originally a Manly rep) N. Brown, Peitsch, Frost,
Terry, Rorke, Armstrong, Silk, K. Brown, Basson

Norths - 5 Jaffer - Williams, Jeavons Fellows, Rixon, Cutler, Smeallie

Randwick -2 Taukamo, Harrison

Eastwood - 2 Osborne, Orpen

Manly - 2 Haskins, Hingano (I Think)

Warringah - 1 Anstey

Wests - 1 Doueihi (I think)

Parramatta - 1 Manu (I think)

Yep greater effort need to be put into high schools to get more kids playing.
Each geographic area maybe different, but man there is a huge opportunity.

What should not be missed, and it has / is always there is the political balance in sport, and also the raw talent spotting that the public school system misses.

CHS 1 beat ASI 1,
ASI 1 beat CAS 1
but in the NSW first XV, only
1 CHS player was selected,
2 AIS selected and
4 CAS selected….and ...............
8 GPS selected.

May have more to do with where the selectors come from than where the players come from.

With my boy only in the 9's, the above came from a very valuable troll who has spent many hours in the junior systems.

I just want to get more kids out there playing, there is some raw untapped talent floating around.

3 from Joeys and 2 from Shore, 2 from Scots. Wow, thought they'd maybe limit themselves to 1 from each school
