3 from Joeys and 2 from Shore, 2 from Scots. Wow, thought they'd maybe limit themselves to 1 from each school

Phone calls were made on Sunday and I know several boys who decided not to join the team, and instead concentrate on study over the holidays. Presumably the offers then went to other boys, and this may partly explain why the team list is different to what may have been expected.

Peter Burge (5)
Also does anyone know what junior districts all these guys come from?

Just that I am aware of -

Gordon - 10 Ongasia (was originally a Manly rep) N. Brown, Peitsch, Frost,
Terry, Rorke, Armstrong, Silk, K. Brown, Basson

Norths - 5 Jaffer - Williams, Jeavons Fellows, Rixon, Cutler, Smeallie

Randwick -2 Taukamo, Harrison

Eastwood - 2 Osborne, Orpen

Manly - 2 Haskins, Hingano (I Think)

Warringah - 1 Anstey

Wests - 1 Doueihi (I think)

Parramatta - 1 Manu (I think)
Never knew Frost played for Gordon? Haven't seen his name in any representative rugby over the years, i might be wrong.

All due respect but this is the greatest crock of shit I have read on here in a long while. These "several" kids that have participated in trial after trial after trial, have suddenly become scholastic?
Freddo Ol mate please. This doesn't happen to "several" kids.
It may be one at best. These lads have been through reps since NSWPSSA in schools and every age group to now, whichever school association they come. And you're saying several kids turn their backs on CS?
If I recall one previous years of Combined States have had Australian Schools players come from there as well as at least one current Waratah.
Several kids say no to this opportunity?
I beg to differ.... Vehemently

Bloody hell, so much arrogance. I know two boys personally and was told of a third who decided against participating in the CS team. And if I know of three, I wouldn't be surprised if there are others. You presume to know the background, intentions and priorities of two hundred-odd boys, which is a dubious claim. In any case I'm not even sure why you are so rabid in your response to my post - the team is what it is, I was only offering up a possible explanation as to it's make-up. I wasn't even remotely trying to be argumentative or disrespectful of the boys in the team, it's a great chance for them to showcase their wares again.

Not arrogance. Incredulity.
You honestly expect an absolute shitload of people reading this that, all of a sudden, now down to three, aspiring state players choose NOT TO PLAY?
You talk about dubious? I am not here for the argument either Ol mate as I have much better to have with Mrs Westlake in regards to watching the voice (Kill me now). I do call your claims spurious though, because every kid that played, bar your three(duly acknowledged) would gladly sell a kidney to play in the Australian Schoolboys Championships . And that I don't presume. It is easily confirmed.
As I said, it's not arrogance, unless this years year 12 cohort of NSW schoolboys has broken ranks from what has been for years

another way to test it would be to ask which kids missed out on combined states that "we" should have expected to be in there? No one has identified anyone particularly hard done by - or maybe I missed that.

Gordon juniors use the same geographical principles as the Qld state of origin side. (You know the one which puts Bowraville, Penrith and Auckland in Queensland);)
In that case, I gather from this thread that the central coast is in Manly.

If Frost has shopped at Chatswood Chase that's within 100m of a Gordon village club. Much closer than the central coast is to Manly. To all the other players selected that have shopped at Chatswood Chase, the Gordon district is proud of you and will welcome you to Colts next year.

I'd hate to be a CS selector. It must be a thankless, difficult and conflicting task especially when the implied "rankings" of players based on the respective school association selections don't seem to feature in the decision making.

^^^^Different selectors, different prejudices, different opinions, not necessarily wrong.

Just look at the banter on the Wallaby threads to see how different folks interpret a players performance in the same game differently.
