Well chaps, at this stage I will wait for the official results to settle from their chaotic "flip-flop" of recent days. However I think we have a NEW provisional minor premier at this stage. More to come.....

So it looks like

Major Semi: Bond v The Bank and
Minor Semi: Brothers v UQ

Points this week will be doubled as will points difference.

Early prediction (to stir the pot!) .... I like the upper end of the alphabet in comparison to the lower end of the alphabet.

ahhhhhhhhh LET"S GET READYYYYYY TO RUMBALLLLLLLLLLLLLL

Always wanted to do that... Semi finals are here and things are getting serious....

Major Semi
In the red corner wearing blue shorts, confident grins and weighing around 260 pounds are the competition standard. The minor premiers... the Rogers of Moore..... the lads from the coast I give you Bond Uni (much cheering)

In the blue corner wearing green shorts, even more confident grins as they have been here done that, weighing around 240 pounds are the real deals of the competition. The dragons of the bank... I give you Sunnybank (much screaming and joviality)

I have been thinking.. thinking ... thinking about this match and I just have that feeling that last years grand finalists have the ability to do something special here. Forget past results (not that there's anything wrong with that) this is going to be real semi final pressure in this game and when there is too much pressure, just like in MasterChef, something fails to rise. Structure versus flair. Anything can happen here. Come on ref... put the whistle in the pocket and let these two at each other.

Dragons by 5

Minor Semi
In the red corner wearing navy blue shorts, sporting bibles from their catholic sunday school session and weighing in at 200 pounds are the competitions most erratic high achievers. the princes of Albion... I give you Brothers (much singing)

In the blue corner wearing white shorts are the competitions big guns, the premiers from last year. Weighing in around 220 pounds sporting nasty grins of expectation and audacity, the lads of the toga... I give you UQ (complete silence.. we're here to play)

This game will be a matter of nervous exhilarance from Brothers against utter fear of failure from UQ being placed in this position after having finished 4th. So what wins here in sudden death... steadfast will to win or the fear of bowing out early in front of a day full of UQ teams in finals... I think the latter may get across the line but Brothers have shown that "X Factor" to turn it on (and turn it off at times as well) where UQ just seem to grind things out consistently. Well played Brothers

UQ by 10

Taken the weekend off work so I can be at sunny Ballymore to experience the $12 hot dogs and $200 cans of beer......marvellous

Either way the rugby this sunday will be fantastic and will provide an apt crescendo to a fantastic season.

Good luck to your teams this Sunday lads and BYO burgers

Round 18
FINAL ROUND OF THE REGULAR SEASON
Yes we have a winner!! and Minor Premier.....The Winner is....
NCWK!!
Well done that man....riding the wave of success. Wrestled the leadership from Refabit again (don't punt on Easts Refabit) and The Sage had nothing and ran out of room.
There were some good results again for the week with 3 gaining 100%, the perfect score (HTC, NCWK and Sage) and the residual (two) getting 75% (Phatmik and Refabit). The main calls that cost them were Norths for Phatmik (have some faith man!) and ofc Refabit with the Easts call.....(need we say more....he even called his own downfall, but that doesn't count unfortunately). NewRecruit _Brissy and Nick Dobell have been spotted in the South of France, so they must have a new contract with a top 14 franchise. In the end there were no surprising wins, however I was impressed with the UQ and Brothers results.
The Final Tally:
1 (=2) .-.-.NCWK ..-.. 4/4 ..37/48 .-.(-654 points) - 77.08%
=2 (=2).-.Sage .-..- -..4/4.. 46/60 .-..(-785 points) - 76.67%
=2 (1).-..-.Refabit..-.- .3/4.. 46/60..- .(-816 points) - 76.67%
3 (3) .-. HTC .-..-.-.4/4.-44/60.-.(-887 points)- 73.33%
4 (4)..-.. Phatmik..-.-..-3/4. -..28/40..-..(-640 points) - 70.00%
5 (5) .-..N Dobell..-. -/-.. ..15/24.. ..(-400 points) - 62.50%
6 (6)..-..New Rec. .-..-/-.-..17/28..- ..(-418 points) - 60.71%
It was a close points difference call last week with HTC and Phatmik winning with -33 points, followed by NCWK on -35 and Sage on -37. Refabit was the blow-out for the week with -57 bloody Brothers and Souths to blame).
The total points difference Champion was Sage with -13.08 per game. This was followed by Refabit with -13.60, NCWK with -13.63, HTC with -14.78, New Recruit_Brissy with -14.93, Phatmik with -16 and finally Nick Dobell with -16.67.
Record points difference Phatmik (aka The Messiah, God, The Redeemer ..etc) Round 14 and humble HTC with -17 Round 10.
Whilst we have established a Minor Premier (NCWK) thus far, can he win the GF?? For next week we have "double jeopardy" with both selection of the winner points and points difference doubled. The two weeks after we will have "quadruple jeopardy" with each win game worth 4 points and four times point differences. The tipping comp, like the real comp. is HOTTTT!!!

The Semi Finals
Before I start, I think all the finals will be close, as the year has been. One of the critical factors will be performance on the day of any individual or team. A lot of the previous form can be discounted somewhat whilst discipline and injury become more critical.
Major Semi Final
Bond v The Bank
Been impressed with Bond all year and now is no exception. There is a small injury cloud over one of their stars, but I think they will have it covered. The Bank has impressed others but I must admit I'm not one of them. Don't get me wrong I think they are a fine team, however I believe Bond is better.
Whilst I'm on the disagreement channel, I also disagree with Phatmik (not again, he says!) and I think that the Ref should have his whistle at the ready. Bond will have the talent in the forwards to stifle the forward momentum of The Banks backs; that failing I believe the defense in the backs is adequate. For The Bank they will need all of Phatmik's blessings and play one of their best games of the season. The bye last week for The Bank concerns me a little, but hopefully they have freshen up a little and like their last bye, come out firing!
Either way, both get a second bite of the cherry.

Minor Semi Final
Brothers vs UQ
The Olde rivalry still remains.
The "hot and colds" of the top 4. Both teams have had their fair share of disappointments during the season. Both there successes. I do like the way UQ plays, however to date they have been definite under-performers given their style. They have also been plagued by injury, rep football and other distractions which has caused a rocky ride for the season. I still think they have the potential to win the GF. I believe that Brothers also have that potential. With all the cattle on the field and playing well this is their chance.
Brothers have been in good form of late and making inroads into some fine attacking moves. Their forwards are starting to fire and the "jell" of the team as well as fitness has improved. One of the major negatives have been their discipline; however I hear that one of the main (and repeated) offenders was red carded last week; a positive for me.
This game will be won on line-outs, discipline and the breakdown. To date Brothers just have it, but this is the finals and this will be close.

Semi Finals
1 vs 2 (Bond vs Sunnybank)
Boy oh Boy, this is going to be a difficult one. I think we can throw everything out the window that has happened in the rounds. Each team will have to bring their “A” game on Sunday. Bond will be missing a couple and let through a few soft tries last weekend. Defence is the key this Sunday, the speed out wide they have.
Sunnybank have been a consistent side losing only to Brothers in the 3# and twice to Bond 28-27 in the 4# and 20-14 in the 13#. They can cause an upset in the semi’s if they are manned up with no injuries and no players playing up.
Bond by 5.
3 vs 4 (Brothers vs UQ)
UQ have been the most hot and cold team of the season. Not sure if it due to injuries, player availability or lapse in concentration. They have the team on paper but as we all know that does not always guarantee a win. Depending on whether the “Hot” team or the “Cold” team pitches up on Sunday we could have a game on our hands.
Besides Bond Brothers have only one arch nemesis “Souths” just can’t beat them however they have been down this UQ road twice and been triumphant on both occasions. Nothing new, get in and get the job done.

So far we have

New Recruit going Bond by 8 & UQ by 12
Yours truly has Sunnybank by 5 and UQ by 10
Sagey's gone Bond by 9 and Brothers by 7
HTC has Bond by 5 and Brothers by 7

So far I'm the only one kneeling for The dragons and we are divided (like the red sea) on the minor semi.

We now wait patiently for The Ref, Mr Dobell and our fearless leader and minor premier to finish things off.

What we should have done is have all 7 of us in a broadcasting box at ballymore, 3 cartons and a bbq going, broadcasting the two semi's live on youtube with our expert commentary. Now THAT would make great viewing.

Refabit

Darby Loudon (17)
Count me in for the box. I like my steaks medium rare btw.

1 vs 2 (Bond vs Sunnybank)
Bond always seem to do enough to win without overly impressing. Having said that you only have to win and last week they put Wests away early then cruised. Bank well rested and last start winners over the flat track bullies. Plenty of penalties and set piece should suit Bond who don't even pass it wide at training drills. Less dropped ball that way apparently.
Bond by 7.

3 vs 4 (Brothers vs UQ)
I gambled all last week backing Easts to beat Brothers and let the silverware slip through the fingers as a result. Still not a believer - sorry sage. I will back the flat trackers to bring their big match experience to the fore.
UQ by 10.
