Continuing this coaching theme - is there a bit of pressure on Sean Hedger in 2017?

It will be his third year in charge at Bond and no Premier grade finals, granted they had Prem Res success in 2015, but their colts results haven't exactly trended up over the last two years either.

By all accounts Hedger has been well recompensed so I'd expect the Uni will want some runs on the board in 2017.

Didn't Bond Premier Colts finish minor premiers & runners up?

In terms of the colts - that's my point they often make the GF but for some reason - I.e. University (of Qld) - they finish second.

Mind you it's tough to beat Uni in colts.

Bulldog, I agree there has to be some degree of pressure on Hedger and I am sure they would have expected some results by Year 3. Losing Harris will have a massive impact as his hard nosed no nonsense coaching style is what was needed to compliment Hedger's supposed technical nous. I don't know Hedger that well but heard good things from my sources down there. There depth is limited and have long had a weakness in their tight 5 particularly up front where they are most vulnerable. They don't have the biggest midfield and heard they tried to lure Tyron Lefao from Wests to the Gold coast at the start of 2016 but he stayed at Wests.

It interests me the amount of poaching from other clubs goes on these days - long gone the days when guys played their whole career for the one club - mind you Sam S-Young and Troy Coker had no problems leaving the Bulldogs for the Magpies.

They'll have two contracted Reds in the tight five next year with Alex Mafi and Cadeyrn Neville at hooker and lock.

Three former Australian Schoolboy props to choose from in Gavin Luka, Joel Kuchel and Sam Clifton.

An arsenal of lock options including Sam Fattal, Rubin Fuimaono, Milton Sikuea and Cam Bracewell, all of whom have played NRC at some point, alongside younger guys like Tai Ford, Jake Upfield and apparently Ben Hunt (John Eales scholar from a while back).

These are all guys who played games last year. Not sure how many have moved on or stayed put but if they keep at least a handful I think they'll be fine.

1. Sam Clifton (Aus Schools 2013)
2. Mafi (Reds)
3. Luka (Reds U20s)
4. Cadeyrn Neville (Reds)
5. Cam Bracewell (QLD Country)
6. Tainui Ford (GAGR team of the season)
7. Jamison Quirk (QLD U18 Sevens, QLD Schools 2014)
8. Josh Fuimaono (Player of the Year 2015)
9. Harry Nucifora (Aus U20s)
10. Mitch Third (QLD Country)
11. Waylen Skipps (Reds A)
12. Brad Jones
13. Dylan Riley (QLD U20s)
14. Isaac Nathan (Titans U20s)
15. Hamish Stewart (Aus Schools 2015)

16. Nick Turner
17. Joel Kuchel
18. ?
19. Sam Fattal
20. Rubin Fuimaono
21. Milton Sikuea
22. Vitori Buatava
23. Gus Qasevakatini

1. Sam Clifton (Aus Schools 2013) - I think he will be there
2. Mafi (Reds) - Hopefully Bond will see plenty of him this season if Moore and Ready remain injury free
3. Luka (Reds U20s) - Reds 20s will take him out of calculations early on and if he makes Australia U20s won't see him for most of the season
4. Cadeyrn Neville (Reds) - Won't see alot of him I think
5. Cam Bracewell (QLD Country) - Not even sure hes returning, did not play much of 2016
6. Tainui Ford (GAGR team of the season) overseas and unsure if returning
7. Jamison Quirk (QLD U18 Sevens, QLD Schools 2014) - think hes injured
8. Josh Fuimaono (Player of the Year 2015) - thought he retired at the end of this season
9. Harry Nucifora (Aus U20s) - will be in the same boat as Luka, safe bet he will make the 20s
10. Mitch Third (QLD Country) - should be there
11. Waylen Skipps (Reds A) - should be back
12. Brad Jones - should be back
13. Dylan Riley (QLD U20s) - QLD 20s and a good chance for higher honours
14. Isaac Nathan (Titans U20s) - stopped playing before end of first round this season and was playing reserve grade
15. Hamish Stewart (Aus Schools 2015) Reds 20s so will not see him at least in the early part of the season

16. Nick Turner - probably back
17. Joel Kuchel - will be a welcome addition
18. ???
19. Sam Fattal - has not indicated he will be back
20. Rubin Fuimaono - reserve grade at best
21. Milton Sikuea - no idea if returning
22. Vitori Buatava - still useful
23. Gus Qasevakatini - would have him starting

After that it is slim pickings so as I said depth is not that big down at Bond.

Historically there has been some friction between the Gold Coast premier team and the local clubs. I'm not sure what the situation is now though.

Bond is in a predicament with only one field to practice and play on which means they can only field 4 teams, 1 x Prem, 1 x Prem res, 2 x Colts. This does not give the club much depth in numbers to build on.

Crusher, why is there a lack of depth at Bond? I am genuinely curious as I thought the local comp was fairly strong down there?

SDS as Jets and HTC have touched on, they have pretty much nailed it. Small amount of teams within the club and an often at times fractured relationship with the clubs has not served Bond well over the years since the glory days of mid 2000s.

I am not sure the standard of the local comp is that strong. I watched a small amount in the middle of the season when I wasn't following my son at TSS and I have got to say the skill level in 1st grade at local level was something more akin to U8s try rugby session. Skill level was disappointingly low and very noticeable when you see old heads running around in 3rd grade exhibit far better skills.

Not just premier clubs but a fair chunk of junior and community clubs too.

Always a worry when (small) companies go large on sponsorship and giveaways. I remember FILA went large sponsoring Nudgee and Ashgrove and went belly up a few years later. Same With GRT sponsoring Reds and Titans (not belly up - but appear to be on the dodgy list judging by reports)

That surprises me Crusher as most of the guys I know in the Gold Coast comp trialled for the All Blacks at some stage. :D

Myself included Jets! he he You might have us confused with Sunny Coast??? Didn't they have the likes of Roy Kinikinilau (NZ 7s) and Caleb Ralph (All Blacks/NZ Maori/NZ 7s)???

Not enough funds down at Bond apparently to attract high profile players

GWS where are they all now - any still in QPR?

Kef was the coach and just finished his stint for QC (Quade Cooper) in the NRC;
Haydn Hirsimaki is at Sunnybank;
Elliot Hagen is at Easts.
