This is an anecdote that I heard third-hand, so take it with a heavy helping of salt.

Apparently before the Lions tour a few years back, an advertising agency approached the ARU with the aim of winning a contract. The response was apparently "the tour will sell itself out, we don't need to advertise". No thought to trying to generate any kind of legacy for the game, no nothing.

If true, it's just a reflection of the poor management of the code by the supposed experts at the top. They have no plan- they honestly seem to think that management of the code as a whole is limited to "try to make the Wallabies successful". I get that this has become a matter of dogma for those involved in managing the game thanks to JON. Unfortunately, this shibboleth has meant that any plan that aims to address the more fundamental failings of the code will be seemingly rejected out of hand.

Yes I would like to remain at 5 and build from the grass roots so we have foundations and depth in each of the provances.

Force Fans - is there a reason why the grass roots Pindan Cup has almost no posts in it?
http://www.greenandgoldrugby.com/community/threads/wa-pindan-premier-grade-2017.17467/

Do kids and players see that as a compeitition /pathway to Soup Rugby? Yes but as with the other states, most of the top prospects are in the RugbyWA pathways prior to senior rugby.
Do Soup players not in the matchday 23 play in that comp and get followed? Yes Force players regularly play Pindan Premier Grade when not required and the Future Force players also play Premier Grade. A couple of ex Force players in Junior Pelesasa and Albert Nikoro play for Wests and ex Force flanker Luke Doherty has been involved in coaching at Nedlands. Harry Scoble, Semisi Masiwera, Anaru Rangi, James Verity-Amm, Onehunga Havili, Francois Van Wyk have all played Pindan Premier Grade this season.

Asking this question becuase i know nothing about the comp, and i thought the rugby supporters in the west would be posting? I will keep the Pindan Premier Grade thread updated. As pointed out, we have TWF for discussing WA rugby. I did not think the demand for Pindan Premier Grade stories was that high over here.

Pindan Premier Grade thread has been updated.

Thanks NTT - greatly appreciated.

It was an honest question as i didn't know?

Pindan Premier Grade - high over here, maybe / maybe not. But it is these people that support our game, and when there is so much chatter / negative crap at Soup Level it provides / demonstrates solid foundations at grass roots.

I should have mentioned Peter Grants been playing for Cottesloe this year too.
WA Premier Grade has changed dramatically over the last 12 to 15 years. It used to be about who could buy in the best kiwis as the local players were still very much of amateur standards and the drop out rate at the 17 - 20 yr olds was very high. Now most clubs are looking to progress their juniors into Premier Grade to the point most clubs are now starting to see strong numbers of 17 - 20 yr olds representing their club at Premier Grade and colts levels with clubs like Palmyra and Joondalup leading the way. The academy players in the Future Force are in high demand too with this years squad spread to a couple of our outer clubs in Wanneroo and Kalamunda, aswell as the usual strong clubs getting their share too. The inner city clubs like UWA, Associates, Cottesloe, Wests and Nedlands are the typical destination for the guys coming through the PSA schools rugby system. The only area of the metro area that needs to be looked at to joining Premier Grade is the Rockingham/Mandurah, south west corridor. Rockingham was in Premier Grade but was relegated to champioship status about 8-10 years ago. Kwinana and Mandurah are also clubs in the same area also in championship division. Mandurah would be my pick as they have had some good junior teams in the last couple of years and have about the highest population growth of any area around Perth.
This season has seen the introduction of an Under 18s division to bridge the gap from U/16s to U/20s. 10 teams are in this division. The U/20s had 9 teams start the season. 19 colts aged teams is the most WA has had since before the Force started. Also, junior registrations are apparently up by about 450 on the same time last year. We also have an 8 team Womens competition and 10 teams in the U/15 girls division.
Hopefully the Forces renewed focus on community engagement sees these numbers continue to grow.

How good is that - that is what working with grass roots and providing a pathway is all about.
ARU take notice.

I thought by posting this quote, I might unearth a comment or two.
Our mate 'Richo' was so impressed with Cooper Cronk when he was playing schoolboy Rugby Union, (at St Laurence,s College, South Brisbane), that he suggested to the Queensland Reds management that they should get young Mr Cronk's signature on a contract. The Reds told Richo that they considered Cronk was "too small to succeed in Rugby"!

In that situation, was there any way that any other franchise could have found out about Cronk once the Reds had rejected him?

You'd have to wonder if the ARU had approached either of the WA or Vic governments before heading off to London (or even much earlier) to see to what extent they would financially assist the Force and the Rebels.

Most sports manage to squeeze maximum funding out of government. We don't seem to even try.

Just fucking great, free loading off our GST and giving it to the Rebels and we'll get the arse. Paying to get our own team kicked out.

But seriously, what can the Vic Goverment actually do? Short of buying the license off Imperium and vesting it in the VRU. Actually, that's probably the only thing they can do. I'm not sure a government giving money to a privately owned sports team passes the sniff test.

And this is where if this story is correct (???) your actually completely wrong . It would actually be about protecting an asset . AAMI Park is owned by MOPT which is fully owned by the VIc Government . Like all major venues these days they are desperate for content and will be significantly financially disadvantaged if the Rebels go .
I'm assuming the same position applies in Perth with their rectangular ground that only has Perth Glory as a tenant without the Force I think
All I know from my experience is that MOPT ( who also own and operate Rod Laver Arena , Hisense Arena , Margaret Court Arena etc ) are very commercially focussed and are actually run by a South African born Rugby fan

Maybe give the Rebels the biggest sponsorship in Aus super rugby?

Both good points. I was thinking more about the Vic Gov offsetting Imperiums ongoing losses. I suppose there are many creative ways to do it.
