Fantastic day of rugby at Bellevue Hill today, Scots struggled all game to contain a very strong Knox forward pack, the Knox backs struggled to contain the Scots backs. Scots had three yellow cards and a penalty count of 15-20 in favour of Knox, this occurred in the Joeys game and if it's not stopped will cost them dearly in the season proper. Knox 15, 5, 1, 2 and 3 were standouts Scots 13 Smith 8 Harris and 10 Savala were strong.

If you combined the Scots back line and the Knox forward pack I reckon they might give waverly a run !

Indeed it was, but what was the story in the 16As where Joeys 16As played Barker 16As and Shore 16As played Joeys 16Bs. I can't recall a similar situation - normally GPS schools play As on As.

Scots 15a"s have to face up week in week out at less than half strength because of Glengarry ...... what's diffrent at Northbridge ?

What a shame Scots and Waves don't play, it is also fairly much a local derby, and all the boys know each other from Club rugby, so do the parents!

We (waves) are playing View twice, how silly.

Who has the knowledge to name a draft 1st/2nd XV GPS teams or do we still need the remaining trial games to come up with an informative decision. I have yet to see the all teams so I reserve judgement at this time.

Just returned from QP and saw Waves completely outplay New in the Backs. Waverly 50 beAT Newington 28 about 8 ties to 4. This Waverly side is something exceptional, their backs and they were the difference between to the two teams, constantly found holes in the Newington's defence and New as a side had their work cut out in containing them. On a positive note for New, their pick and drive has improved and I can't recall any wasted opportunities in today's game. If fact all the tries they scored were a result of keeping the ball tight and grinding through Waves defences at the try line.

My concern is that this Waverly side is so good they will turn the CAS into a one sided competition, where most sides will do well on their day, if they keep the score below 50 points.

Today's result also puts into perspective the losses suffered by Joeys,Shore and Riverview against Waverly. Outclassed by a superior team. At this point I have noticed Cranbrook may withdraw from matches against Knox and Waverly. A good idea from what I saw today, if GPS schools are being outplayed by Waverly, imagine how Cranbrook will go. A 100 plus score will do nothing for Rugby at Cranbrook & Aloys.

A balanced and fair perspective.

As a waves supporter I thought New almost got back into the game, they did not throw the towel in at any stage.

I personally don't like the pick n drive aspect, BUT it does work, and New were very good at it today.

The Waverley team has talent all over the park, and some of it has an obvious league slant, eg off-loads and some head on tackling, so a combination of both codes can be very hard to deal with.

Clearly you need the ball to win but the backs in this team really are good to watch. The half (Marco Bell), fly half (Ben Donaldson) and inside centre ( Brooklyn Hardaker- UNBELIEVABLE) really are a pleasure to watch, every time they get good ball its on.

I will do a game report tomorrow but I also thought Kyle Devine was a standout and Joey Caputo for New was excellent, and there were others.

I am sure that the New backs have some very talented players, and will shine in the GPS comp, but today wasn't their day.

Agree - Knox a 50/50 chance at best of beating Shore. Although, I wouldn't even put your money on this Azzuri.

I gather Joeys has finalised their new Headmaster, a Mexican, south of the border from the prestigious Xavier College. In 2018 Joeys might have an expanded AFL offering?! Although I seriously doubt it, if anyone can hold soccer at bay it is Joeys.

It would've read better for you, SDW, if you'd done a bit of research into Chris Hayes' background: St Pat's Old Boy, boarding master at Riverview before picking up the top jobs at Eddie's in Canberra and then Xavier in Melbourne. You probably also weren't aware Chris's father is an OB of Joeys. He is most definitely NOT a Mexican. In fact he's seen the light and stepped up from the most prestigious Catholic boys' school in Melbourne to one of the most eminent independent schools in Australia.

How do I know you ask? My father (and his brother/their father/all their uncles/25 or so cousins) went to Xavier. I went to Joeys as did my nephews and my son, who attended primary school with Chris's nephew. I've known him for years, he's a rugby supporter.

Knox were competitive today , nos 5 and 15 outstanding . The no 5 for Knox I think was 9/9 in their line out with 3 line out steals and I think 2 tries as well , well played and a real talent , saying that if it wasn't for those two boys And the 3 yellow cards scots received the score could of been a blow out. Scots tried some flair but struggled due to being 1 short in their backline when their strike plays were on , scots will improve from this game and next weeks game against Kings will be a cracker.

In other games, Joeys v Knox will be interesting. Kings v Scots will give a good insight into Kings' form so far. New v Shore - one suspects a win to New, but always dangerous to underestimate the Shore boys.

As you can probably appreciate when you are fronted by a chicken/duck emblem at the beginning of the season, which IS funny, and you think/know your team is pretty good, its probably fairly normal to keep the picture up your sleeve.

Anyway, so far it has worked in our favour, and at the end of the day there has been some very good school boy rugby, of different styles, played.

Totally agree. Today's win just confirms they are a gun side that will be talked about and benchmarked against for years. As good as could be reasonably expected they would be, they would have to have exceeded all expectations. Even die hards like WLF
