Agreed, OEP.

The week before, I was standing at BH just behind the View in-goal towards the end of the Scots match, View already knowing they'd copped a hiding on the scoreboard.

After one of the late Scots tries in that game, and leaving aside the very colourful expression used, altogether down at the blue end of the spectrum!, the thrust of the message conveyed to the lads in Blue & White, was: "Don't look at that scoreboard. It does not define us. KNOW how bad this feels, and channel it into training THIS week (ie. last week). And THAT we take out to Kings next week!"

Sounds like the View boys did precisely that. So, good on them.

And good on Kings too for withstanding the onslaught, 'cuz those View boys were shaping to be one very cranky and determined playing group out at Nth Parra last Saturday! Their Rnd5 "final" against the old enemy at HH should be extra special; both sides with lots left to 'prove' in Season 2017.

Hopefully the Y12's can channel that kind of 'take no prisoners' determination into their HSC Trials too!

I'm glad View and New stood up yesterday. There were some on this thread including myself that thought the margins would be large. Kings beat View and New by 40 odd in the trials so they have certainly closed the gap. A 1 round comp now feels very short.

Returning to a one round competition has been frustrating.
The season is nearing it's conclusion and it hardly feels like it's started.
And next weekend the competition will be decided by a match up between the 2 best teams with one having the fortune of home ground advantage.
10 round home and away was a far fairer system and truer test.
The trial games didn't really inspire, smaller crowds and less excitement.
Does anyone know the plans for next year?

Hopefully no more of the same stupidity as this year

While I miss the 2 round comp... wouldn't want to see shore in 2 rounds... sadly this trial / experimental season has shown that the likes of Knox and Waverley are more competitive, and would be better suited to face off against the heavyweights

And shore hasn't drifted as badly as shs or grammar, but they are drifting

Jika travers be unhappy... in heaven

Wrist man,What about smith and savala . gone for kings game?

Dog poolman should be proud..part of a stellar backline

Smith gone for the season.
Savala training this week with the strong possibility of playing.
Backline looking good regardless of Smith's absence now that Wilson Dulieu is back at scrum half.

A one round comp with interminable trials is a mangy dog with mangy fleas.. hopefully the decision makers can stay off the Columbian Marching Powder before sitting down to work out what next beats comp will look like.

Sadly, I hear that the plan is to continue with the endless trials and to include ISA schools as well.

Heads of Sport have apparently come up with it, just needs to be approved by the Headmasters. Madness.

Indeed they have, and there would be nothing wrong with both of those schools playing 3 or 4 weeks of trials against GPS schools before both Associations split to conduct their own longstanding competitions. You just don't need 6 or 8 weeks of trials before a 5 game competition.

The CAS schools have a very good competition which is coming up to 100 years of tradition. Why they want to play in another competition beats me.

2 rounds hasn't been around for long, in fact in came in by accident, but it's shown itself to be a far superior model to the one round competition which preceded it and an infinitely superior model to what we have seen this year.

It might be two one-round competitions run concurrently.

That is, a GPS/CAS/ISA comp of some description as a completely new comp, as well as the traditional competitons run in the individual Associations.

Throw all the trial matches in the bin and replace them with proper competition games that have a happy ending.

Agree Wristman

And Charlie Baker, Billys replacement at 13 the last 2 weeks is also a very good player. Made Combined States after all.

When you've got Ryan O'Bierne, 12 from 2016 1sts playing 15 for seconds last Saturday, it seems they have a number of good centres and back threes to choose from.

Better than the one round but nothing like the 2 round comps of the past - 2016 was a beauty. This year could have been even better and next year will be even closer.

The new proposed format sounds like a poor man's Super 15 and we all know how that's turning out!

i like the 2 round comp as well but with the governing bodies taking more of an interest in schoolboy rugby it seems likely change may be here to stay.

I didn't see any crowds like this (New v Scots last Saturday) in the trials. The crowds have voted.
