I'd be keeping Foley as the predominant kicker but giving Beale the job for anything wider than the 15m marks.

for goal? He's actually statistically poorer than Foley aint he?

During Super Rugby his kicking success was less than 70% and Foley's was over 80%

As part of this centralised coaching thingy Kafer is aiming for we need to up the ante on all our goal kickers.

Are those success rates like for like, has Hodge attempted more difficult kicks than Foley, as a percentage of total attempts?

Has Hodge had the intensive work on his kicking that Foley has had?

He is a natural kicker. Foley always looks a bit stilted or something to me, as though he is not particularly comfortable.

Hodge is a brilliant kicker out of hand, Foley is meh. That means something, doesn't it?

Hodge is significantly worse at kicking than Foley.

It's a shame we lost but there is no one really to blame. Everyone played well. You can't really blame the ref, we had plenty of 50/50s go our way.

Ol Nigel will be getting a tap on the shoulder about the tip though, im sure. If you 'accidently' tip someone over competing for the ball in the air its red. Don't see why it would be any different elsewhere.

Impressive by the Wallabies. Could have won it and that would have shaken up the tournament tremendously.

I don't like Cheika having a go at the officials. To my mind its not the first time either.

Stark difference to the dross dished up between the Pumas and the Boks later on, but then again the Pumas tend to make the Boks look worse than they are so it looks like it will be an interesting RC for the first time in ages.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is the All Blacks showing zero respect for the Wallabies by never once taking a shot at a penalty goal. They got away with it but only just and I guarantee it that if we had won by 1 point that would have been the major talking point in the media today.

And I think the hooking of Moore (no pun intended) for the scrum just before half time was significant. In terms of future selections that is.

Great game, Aus right there trading punches into the 15th rd.

Read snaring that last 78th min restart totally bailed out Ofa and Whitelock from the Toutai Kefu Bledisloe winnign try under the posts doghouse.

Nepo Lualala should now surely supplant Ofa. Back to the Auckland Blues bench he goes. Where he can’t get a fucken start either. At fucken Soup Rugby level

So over the 2 tests Aus score 45 unanswered points? Yeah Aus rugby is falling apart. Woe is us. FFS. All they need is a cunning plan to nick 5 or 10 AFL/NRL top prospects a year and they’ll fucken tip our precious pups over. 45 points unanswered, during which time you sort of got the feeling that the AB’s just like the idea of being All Blacks without putting in the shitwork, uhh, umm, maybe someone else’ll step up and organize shit ohh bugger they've scored again.

Beale may as well have whipped out a ballgag for the showpony klutz opposing him, just make the sado-masochistic domination official in a formal setting.

Why are there so many Kiwis on an Australian rugby forum? They seem to be a recurrent and inescapable part of life, sadly even in the online world

I won't speak for everyone else, I never wanted Cheika gone because I think he can become a very good Wallaby coach, but that doesn't mean I won't criticise his selections or game plans.

Someone on this forum suggested last weeks display was a reflection of the current squads ability, that's the kind of thing which annoyed me, because I knew this weeks performance was a much more accurate representation of what this squad was capable of.

My frustration was due to a noticeable trend in the Wallabies defence which had been apparent for the past 12 months, and then hiring Grey full time, after similar trends with the Waratahs. But. it's good to see that he may be willing to adapt, if Grey continues to adapt and evolve he may become a very good coach
What is amazing is wallabies did this with their best player, Coleman, missing. As when I heard Coleman was out i thought any chance of winning went with him. Good to see I was wrong as Wallabies should have won that game.

So would seriously anybody be calling for coaching changes after that performance.

I was absolutely against Cheika being removed, and larkham being removed imo was not in question, but I would admit was on the grey should be removed.

After that performance I don't think anybody of sane mind would be suggesting a change in coaches..

Never forget the Alamo!

I'd have cut Cheika After Bled 1, if the planning had been done, and have had no regrets. The planning had not been done, so we had no choice. I said earlier we had to let him run through the RC. His chance to improve things. Bit like a player who gets a chance not because he is the best, but because someone is injured.

I also said I would judge Cheika by performance on the field, not by W/L ratio. He's still on last warnings, but made a hell of a start to holding the job through to the EOYT.

And then he is STILL not out of the woods. Still on last warnings. To be judged in on the field performance on the EOYT.

After that, I'll withdraw my assessment of Cheika. In the RC so far, Bled 1 is not reversed, but he's made a hell of a start.

Out of hand? Hodge is far better, gets far more distance.

From the spot, Foley has had intensive coaching and is still haphazard, to put it kindly.

Give Hodge the same coaching.

I think the root of the issue is that there aren't any good kickers in Australia full stop, at least not at a comparative level to South Africa and New Zealand. Hodge has the distance, but he is a bit like Happy Gilmore before he met Chubbs, all power and very little control. I was king of hoping Mick Byrne would be the Chubbs, but he hasn't eventuates thus far.

A good kicker is as valuable if not more to a team as any Folau/Hooper/McMahon are, not just goal kicking, but tactical kicking.

I feel like for the 45 points to be unanswered the All Blacks might have lost, heh.

As for the rest, perception is a powerful thing. Rulers used fear to rule for thousands of years. People perceive the AB's as being unbeatable so they are.

Statsitics aren't as definitive as they might be. Hodge only given the long distance kicks in many games which brings down success rate.

A few things I noticed. The Wallabies great first half was built on the Deans' mantra of "play what's in front of you". Some might say there was a lot of luck involved in the three tries, but really it was great to see players back themselves and back up the ball carrier and come away with the points.

Overall, the best aspect was the change in defense, structures and attitudes. What a difference when players defend in their numbered positions. And on his showing last night, I have no issues with Beale defending at 12. Sure, he missed one or two tackles but he has improved significantly in both technique and execution from his earlier days in Gold. Moreover, the structure was there that allowed many of the missed tackles by others as well as KB (Kurtley Beale) to be covered, possibly with the exception of the lead up to the last ABs' try.

Was the change to defending man on man up in the face of the opposition what Grey meant when he said the defense could be changed in 7 days? Was he just now given rein to bring in that change? Or was the change imposed on him from above? Either way, there was an obvious change and big improvement in the way the team defended, but still opportunity to improve further.

I thought Michael Hooper also had his best game for quite some time, playing a lot closer to the breakdown and actually looking like part of the forward pack. Long may it continue.

The backrow makeup is still out of kilter and is one area that more improvement can be made in coming tests. Similarly, we are still missing the benefit of a good kicking game. I'd like to see Hodge come into the starting side somewhere primarily for his long boot, but he wouldn't let the side down in general play either. Still some things to work on.

A very gutsy effort by the team and I hope they can build on this game in weeks to come.

No, he's kept players on the bench before. His substitution methodology is somewhat random.

I think some are there as 'finishers' eg the front row and will share a game regardless whereas others are there as injury cover and/or if the starter is playing poorly.
