Looking at the final RC standings it is clear there simply isn't enough talent to sustain 4 teams in this competition. Australia finishes second on the ladder with 2 wins from 6 games. South Africa the same and Argentina 0 from 6 games. The Argies inclusion in Super Rugby is obviously paying dividends for them internationally.

SANZAAR needs to meet urgently to discuss culling one of these teams and having their players qualify for citizenship with the remaining 3 teams so the quality of the RC can be lifted.

I believe the ARU have an alliance agreement with themselves so should be safe, but a restructure of the RC broadcast deal might provide an opportunity to bone themselves saving millions of dollars.
If not for europe there is plenty of talent. Not much to be done about that.

Edit: upon closer inspection of your comment i see what you are whining about

Decent game. No idea how Argentina were not carded earlier for repeated infringements especially when we were inside their 22.

I have no gripe with the forward pass for the Hodge try but you can't tell from the tmo footage that it was forward. It was forward though so it was the correct decision.

I'm really impressed with Hodge. He reminds me of a bigger version of the badge. Gives it his all and really deserves his spot in the side now.

I was worried with the lack of urgency to get the bp to go second in the RC. I guess we had the difference in our favour anyway ?

On Hodge, played great on attack, a real team player with the lines and angles he runs..

But his defence concerns me a bit, he seems a bit slow on lateral drift when defending at 12, which may be due to indecision or just not reading the play right. But there was a key moment he did it last week when KB (Kurtley Beale) was steam rolled and he did it a couple of times again this week. AB’s would have identified that, and will be much better at exploiting it.

Reckon they should all just start defending in their proper positions again, a la Bled 2.

Do you think the players (on any team) care at all whether they finish 2nd or 3rd in the RC? I doubt they considered it for a second on the field.

They only had to win the game to finish 2nd in the Rugby Championship after the Springboks lost.

Yeh I didn't realise we had our points difference better. Because if we just won we both would of finished on 14

It's kind of like the 5'4 halfback ducking the tackle from the 6'8 lock and the ref ruling a head high. The Argie put his chin on his chest running into the tackle and said chin brushed koroibete's jersey on the tip of the shoulder. Technically you could call it but it would be a blight on the game to do so.

KOB, that description actually rivals Cheika's "no hair pull" defence of Folau as the most biased call of the year. I agree that there was no ground for a card, but Koroibete's shoulder slammed into the Argie's chin with sufficient force to lay him out and to have him taken from the field on a stretcher. It was definitely a legitimate tackle though.

It's pretty hard to tell whether it was the shoulder or the head clash. I'd guess shoulder only because you are more likely to be knocked out cold by a blow to the chin than directly to your skull.

Izzy had a quiet game.
The gameplan seemed to exclude him a bit.
There was a lot of one out running off Genia and Foley.
I was waiting for a kick pass for the whole of the second half.
Was this game used to prepare for the AB's in 2 weeks time?
Did the Argies double team him with their defense?

Set piece attack frequently put the ball into Izzy's hands off either Foley or Beale. The Argies were awake to the move and mostly had a defender shoot out of the line to hit Izzy at the same time as he collected the ball. Some variation is needed with Izzy running some dummy lines to put the defense off.

To be fair to Izzy off the scrum we tended to attack it a bit more in the hope of a penalty than we did against the Boks and it often broke down allowing the Pumas back row to get across and cover. There was one point in the second half where Kafe was talking up Izzy's chances of going over Sanchez but instead of getting quick ball off the back of the scrum McMahon picked it up and the play broke down.

Yeah - and even off the lineout/maul we were too many times thwarted and turned over. Play broke down when the Wallabies were in good attacking position far too often. Worst case was Dempsey electing to come inside when he had three supports outside on his left with one defender to beat at about the 20m line. Getting better with ball handling. support play and decision making, but still a fair way to go.

Going by the laws, if there was deemed an infringement then a penalty would have been appropriate. Very little grounds for a card but let's see if WR (World Rugby) have anything to say.

There won't be any citing as it was a penalty only offence.

That tackle would even have been a penalty in league.

It should have been a penalty in this game as well. Note that the referee and the TMO ruled that it was a head clash and that the shoulder didn't contact the head, which was the basis for their decision. Peyper was trying to suggest otherwise (rightly so).

Even Rod Kafer thought it was a definite penalty.

Are the Argies still only picking from the Jaguares?

If so, then its clearly why they're not improving: bench is getting them smashed every game. They were right in it, just like they were in both Australia and New Zealand, but the quality of depth is not there.

Were I newly-appointed coach Ledesma, I'd be asking for any such requirement to be lifted.

In terms of the game: how fucking good was Dempsey?

Also, to anyone picking Tui for blindside: needs to be faster. Maybe some sprint work or something but watching one of the few scrums he packed, the Argies burned him off the back in a way that Dempsey or Fardy don't get burned. Would have preferred to pack him at 8 during his time on the park and put Dempsey on the flank.

Yep seems they are Pfitzy, if you don't play super rugby you don't play test rugby. It is no wonder they are looking so stale, it too long together.
