Further to the Vic Gov - VRU - ARU deal, Gary Gray has confirmed that his firm SMC Strategies Pty Ltd played a significant role in securing $4.5 m from Visit Victoria for the 'new Rebels' and also worked closely with the VRU CEO , Baden Stephenson, to secure the recently announced further government community rugby grant. great work Gary, we are lucky to have you on our side

I think its the working capital they needed to keep operating, for VRU funding support of the Rebels over the next three Super Rugby seasons, not sure, maybe Gary Gray can explain it, or maybe John Eren can

Melbourne Rebels are making a statement by not accepting jersey sponsors - only jersey tuggers are allowed in this club

Does anyone else think is not a good look for the official ARU (or whatever they want to call themselves) website to carry criticism of referees?

I guess this is where the game custodian role clashes with the media unit - an issue which does not arise in AFL or NRL.
Criticism of refs is our (the fans) job and its not as if we don't have plenty of willing and capable participants without resorting to has beens like Jones.

It's a tough one. It happened, everyone knows and most have seen it, so it is really just reporting the facts. Can't really pretend it didn't happen. I don't think it being there means it is endorsed as acceptable. Also, maybe they want it there to make Jones look more of an arse, given how much he is into them. ;) Could they be that clever? Yes, that was rhetorical.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the game wasn't run by the useless mob so it really doesn't affect their look or lack of values. Fair game play on! The ref had a barry anyway.

I take it you mean they aren’t responsible for the baa baas - all the more reason not to report what their decrepit coach says about the ref.
He nearly surpassed his all time worst post match. When coaching Balmain league he uttered the following : “that performance out there today was like a total eclipse of the sun. You wouldn’t see it in a month of Sundays”.
Goodnight and goodbye Gloria.

Looks like the RUGBY AU branding will be rolled out to the states as well.

RUGBY VIC flags in this tweet

Fantastic to see such good alignment between the VRU and the EARU - Oops apologies - Vic RUgby and RUgby AU. So moving forward is all about the $$s and the high performance aspects of RUgby. Melbourne Rebels - the wooden spooners of Super Rugby in 2017. Melbourne Rising the wooden spooners of the NRC in 2017. Rebels get 5 players + Dev Player in the 30 man squad for the Spring Tour. Rebels get gifted Genia by the EARU as he has to be fitted in somewhere - may as well be the Rebels (at what cost to RUgby in AUstralia?). AAMI Park will continue to be a dark blue hole into which RUgby AU will pour $$s to the detriment of the growth of Rugby in Australia. The Western Force came 2nd in the Aussie conference in 2017 (12th out of 18). Perth Spirit make the finals in the NRC 2017 (having won last year). Western Force get 7 players in the 30 man squad for the Spring Tour. (Many of these 7 players likely to end up at the Rebels) The Western Force get shafted and are no more. The Western Force (a rose by any other name) will represent Australia in the IPRC. The IPRC will be developed at no cost to RUgby AU and can only benefit the growth of Rugby in WA and in the Indian-Pacific region. The IPRC appears to have the tacit approval of the IRB (we'll know more after 14 November 2017) The IPRC awaits RUgby AU to give its "approval" by 2 November 2017. The definition of IRONY - a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often wryly amusing as a result.

In news (if true) that seems simply unbelievable I'm hearing rumours that Brett Robinson is very close to getting the ARU CEO gig.

With the dumb shit that these monkeys have done over the last couple of years why do you find it unbelievable?

It's a smart move.

It needs to be someone the chaps can trust.

How can you let sleeping dogs lie if you let the cat out of the bag?

If you change horses in the middle of the stream … next thing you know, you're up the creek without a paddle.

if so, makes sense why he is part of the ARU group so called "assisting" Twiggy getting his comp up and going.
It will be interesting to see if he is converted by Twiggy's money and the stupidity of getting him more offside and the eventual repercussions to rugby and his rep.

We'll need to wait and see on this "assistance" as it will depend on how much pressure RuAu come under.

If there's any chance they can get away with nixing this comp, I reckon they'll do so.
