What I noticed in the absence of Foley when we played Japan was that Hodge could bomb it into the stratosphere, although his accuracy could use a little work at times, so he could make up for Foley's lack of skills. The only problem is that Hodge defends in the line and Foley drops back to receive kicks so it limits the chances Hodge has to bomb it off kick receipts. If we could sort this issue out it may give us a potent change up weapon on counter next year as you'd have the best guy in the air, Israel, under bombs from a guy with one of the largest boots in world rugby. It'd also be pretty shit to be standing under a high ball as you heard Koroibete violently tearing up the turf as he charged towards you.

Still learning what to do when he gets there though. Cooked that try against England and some of his tackling is 50/50 (edit: as in, borderline dangerous. His tackling is fantastic).

They were very impressive against the Darkness, they will give us a heap of trouble. Their tactical kicking was fantastic. It will be a wet track, I assume, and our pathetic kicking options will be our achilles heel, I fear.
When will they ever learn, when will they e-e-ever learn?
BTW, I grew up absolutely hating kicking in our game, there used to be far too much of it. But now it is pretty obvious that good, clever, accurate kicking is an absolutely crucial attribute of any top side. It is as simple as this: unless we can get a whole lot better at kicking, we will never, ever be consistent winners against the best international teams.

I still feel it's a little harsh to say we would have scored had he dived on the ball. The ball basically bounces at 90 degrees to where he was which is why he only got a feather on it with his boot. If he'd try to dive directly on it, he may well have missed it altogether given the bounce. Without that bounce of the ball he probably toes it over the try line and scores and no one even considers it being the wrong option.

Kicking is so crucial now because the game has become defence oriented. Back when, there was space to throw the ball around. Now you just run into a 350kg wall of half man meat/half human growth hormone. It's a problem really because watching Foley and Beale turd up catches constantly (despite it being nearly impossible to contest now given the safety 'issues') is pretty rage inducing.
(edit: now that humans are on average 30% larger than 10 years ago, they should widen the field)
Do you think that is legitimately feasible? Knock down Twickenham, Suncorp, Eden Park, Cardiff Arms etc and widen the fields?

with increased size has also come increased acceleration, speed and agility through improved S&C programs, I don't know whether the game has become more defence orientated, it seems to ebb and flow in that regard.. But certainly its become more calculated and precise in execution
