Brag about trial performances at your peril. In 2014 the Rebels won 3/3 in their trials. Super Rugby proper? Wooden spoon. I don’t expect that result for the Brumbies (indeed I think they are front-runners to win the Aussie conference), but let’s just wait and see rather than play “my Dad is bigger than your Dad).

Just cause your squads's bigger than ours but couldn't perform. Its not about the size, its how you use it! ;)

Haha. Well, 'game day' squad size was a factor too. I'm not even arguing the Rebels will be better than the Brumbies (though I hope they are), it's more just this was a trial in the truest sense and there's not a lot to take from it considering the differing goals the coaching groups clearly had.

Admittedly, not a lot of this trial based exaggeration is coming from the Brumbies fans but more the Force ones (check out the Sea of Blue facebook group, it's pretty next level BS).

When you consider Wessels treated this trial as not much more than a contact training session Rebels fans can rest easy for the time being.

5 off the starting XV vs Uncontracted Rebels players is an interesting win to brag about for our nation's capital.

Hmm, lets see:

Players went well, looked fit, looked well drilled and prepared , no injuries - Check

Competed well and comprehensibly outplayed a weaker squad in meaningless trial - Check

Sufficient content to get in some pre-season banter to wind up sensitive Rebels supporters over a meaningless game - Check

Banter about short-comings of Rebels mega-squad tested - check (and really worked well).

The reality that last year ignored noting that neither of these teams managed win 50% - check.

Nah, not that interesting, fairly predictable really. Went pretty much to script.

Oh, Brumby Runner is not straw-manning BTW - We built an straw ivory tower to launch our banter from. ;)

Not meaning to stoke the coals, but conceding the comments about the Rebels' squad are on the money, just what did the coaching team set out to test and what would they have got out of such a meaningless exercise. The most pertinent issue to me is the lost opportunity to use the game to integrate a good number of last year's Rebels with some of the ex-Force players now on the books.

On another matter, Hardwick limped off late in the game. Any news on his injury? Is he a contracted ex-Force player? Also, why would Ruru have played with such an obvious toothache?

Henry Speight and Jordan Jackson-Hope both received attention from the Brumbies' medical staff. Both looked to be minor complaints, but any news?

Just start calling those Force fans 'Hiroo Onoda'. The war's over fellas.

All countries now have a designated "2nd" team that locks them into allegiance to that selected country. Some countries have nominated their u20s squads (Samoa's team is Samoa A) but others have selected other teams. Australia's second team is the Australian Barbarians (not to be confused with the Barbarians) who last played a game on the 2016 Spring Tour in France. Personally i'd rather we get players through u20s commitment than the Australian Baabaas as they barely play a game, or start using the Aus Baabaas more regularly.

Information can be found on the world rugby site, which includes a PDF of the most recent allocation (2017).

All sevens representation locks a player in as well, although there is a loophole with this in collaboration with olympic rules.

Stiles onboard as part time scrum & lineout coach for the rebels.

Good to see him back in a job (I think the HC coach was too big a step for someone who hasn't come from a winning culture) but not glad his first test will be against us....

Thanks Rebels 3, very informative.

Don't suppose any knows what 2018 arrangements are?

So from what I understand only Georgia, Italy, Japan, New Zealand and South Africa lock their U20 players into that country. Is that correct?
