That AR was a bit slow and poorly positioned.

I think the AR was just judging when the best time to start his run. He was probably afraid that if he ran to the fullest of his ability too early, he would have scooted past the play so quickly he would have been useless. And as the ground was a bit slippery that night, he probably would not have been able to slow down and turn around to get back to the area where the play was. And potentially he could have ended up three or four rows into the crowd; causing all sorts of trouble.
