does anybody have any updates as to how the academy system will be working for next season and when are the academy lists brought out?

My guess would be that Moses and Scotty are right. Either a set amount was agreed to, or there is a set minimum each year that an expand depending on revenue levels.

Btw, 30% is pretty lure compared to US sports. The NBA currently has 57% of revenue going to player salaries. Of course, they're in a lockout just now so maybe we should be glad rugby doesn't have a similar situation.

If it's about saving money, why would they place restrictions on 3rd party deals?

My guess is that the ARU sees companies or individuals having a limited amount to spend on rugby, when that money goes to an individual player the ARU misses out. By reducing 3rd party payments to players, they possibly estimate more money coming to the governing body.

Whether that plays out in reality, or whether my theory is correct remains to be seen.

From what ive heard in regards to the third-party agreements its gonna work out better both ways...

Firstly the province will be able to aid in negotiating a third-party contract up to a set price($20k), but any third party contracts after that will need to be negotiated through the manager and be "provincialism free", ie they wont be able to use third party contracts to lure players from team A to team B..

It's only going to be in Sydney and Brisbane from what I've heard. It's also been rumoured that the teams must use all available players within their 30+5 man (or whatever the final number is) squad before they can dip into the pool of academy players. Also, once a player has been picked up by a team they can't play for another Super team in that same season.
These players will work to a program designed by the ARU and not the teams themselves.

While that is a good idea it doesn't take into account specific positions required. Say a team is short of Hookers due to injury and they have only used 32 players they will have to be allowed to pull in a Hooker if there isn't one in their remaining 3 unused players.

Are there any links on the matters being discussed in recent hours?

I am wary of rumours or hearsay that can be enshrined as facts: what Norman Mailer used to call "factoids": things mentioned so often that they took on the guise of facts.

I am sure that there is some basis behind what we are talking about and that the mail is righteous, but are there any links yet?

Precisely LG, this is the fourth/fith thread speculating on this very topic on the last 12 months and we are no closer to the facts then we were back in Feb...

“It ain't so much the things we don't know that get us in trouble. It's the things we know that ain't so.” Artemus Ward.

Best exemplified on this site by comments that members make about other clubs which they assert as absolute fact.
