Methinks that Hooper's abilities will diminish in the eyes of Brumbies' fans whatever he has done, is doing, or will do.

Really the Tahs haven't done anything with Coooper or Barnes... why would he want to leave a team on the rise... ;)

It seems impractical that the Brumbies should have three top level no8s on the books, similar to when the Tahs had Lyons, Cliffy (kind of a pun there), and Hoiles. In a parallel to that situation you would think that one of either Vaea or Aeula will head to another franchise once the pecking order has been established. The Rebels would probably make the most sense with Delve leaving.

The Brumbies will announce today that they've re-signed Lealiifano, To'omua, Speight, Murphy and Sio to 2 year contract extensions.

Apparently a couple more players should be re-signed in the coming days.

Despite Hooper's departure, which was mostly for personal reasons, I do believe that with the way the Brumbies are going White should be able to hang onto all the players he wants.

I don't know about that...

If the selections continue like last week Mowen will play at 6, Fotu at 8 with Vaea on the bench....

It's hardly hoarding talent...

Not hoarding at all, but certainly three high-level number 8s.

Hooper has confirmed he is off to the Tahs in 2013... The Brumbies have been very respectful of his choice and praised him for his work this season, moreover the brumbies wish for him to cotinue to push for the 7 starting spot and grow as a player.... White also praised forwards coach laurie Fisher for his work developing Hooper skills at the breakdown this season...

Funny how certain Tah fans imply that the Brumbies and their fans are bitter and begrudging. I expect an apology forthwith!

The Brumbies will announce today that Christian Lealiifano, Matt To'omua, Henry Speight, Ruaidhri Murphy and Scott Sio have all signed two-year contract extensions.

That is good news for the Brumbies and it clears the air somewhat. According to the old G&G contract list the following had 2012 contracts which are still not extended, though some may have renewed already and I have forgotten:

Moore, Palmer, Yanuyanutawa, White, Smith, McCabe.

Hand and Hooper are leaving the Brumbies, plus Owen has already left. It is thought that Yanuyanutawa won't have his contract renewed.

There were 14 backs in the squad in 2012 which is one too many and a place has to be made for Mogg which would make it two too many. Since McCabe will be a priority retention and Speight is being re-signed, it means that Smith will have to be discarded; so there will still be 14 backs.

The Brumbies had 5 props on their 2012 roster. With Owen and Jerry Y leaving and Sio being added from the EPS that leaves them with 4, the right number. Two hookers are right but Moore should be given an extension to 2014 to stagger the contract renewal dates.

Hand should be replaced by a specialist lock. IMO this is Jake's highest priority. He should be a hard head, Thorn type - not a lock/6 and not Dylan Sigg from the EPS, who would be another hybrid at the Super level. Fardy can be given the 2012 5th prop contract spot; so another lock/6 is not needed. Carter should have his contract extended to 2014 to balance out the 2nd row contract renewal dates.

Hooper should be replaced by a specialist 7 though Jake may not think so. Whatever, there is one forward space open because of Hooper's departure - only one, if the things mentioned above happen - because the renewals for the backs dictate that there can be only 16 forwards again.

Equally important is the roster for the 2013 EPS, but that is another discussion.

Tom Cusack (Oz U20 flanker) might be an option to replace Hooper and he's a local boy. I would suggest he starts in the EPS and Hooper's spot can go to Scott Fardy.

Vaea can back-up Fainga'a as the 1st choice fetcher...

Cusack is not a fetcher in any sense - a 6 or 8. Certainly a talent though, and would love to see him continue his journey in the ACT.

There was already a spot for Fardy because the Brumbies had 5 props this year (Murphy was a late add-on IIRR) and only needed 4. Assuming Jerry Y will be discarded, the prop situation will be optimal in 2013.

I rated Cusack as a schools player but am yet to see him play senior rugby. There have been some fine schools backrowers come through since Hooper and Gill were at school, not all of them playing 7, but destined to be so in senior rugby, or at least in pro rugby - if they are good enough.

One of the interesting things about watching schools rugby is to find out which of the talented guys actually make it a few years down the track. Cusack looked like such a player but you can't pick which forwards, especially, will grow enough, or get strong enough, or be able to play with the physicality needed.

The journey is good for the lads to experience, but also for old rugby tragics to watch.

What a difference 12 mths makes. White has done a great job. I imagine most Brums fans would be feeling pretty good about the level of emerging talent despite the loss of Hooper. A lot of things can go wrong, but they certainly seem a team on the rise.

I am enjoying the energy of the likes of Nic White, Lilo & Mogg too.

My bet is on Tom Murday, the 2m lock for Vikings at least getting an eps spot next year.

He was invited by White to train with the squad preseason and even played in the starting lineup in one of the trials.
