Most of you know how the Army likes to roll, we love to stand and sing (when we can).

I've been getting the feeling, that other supporters are stick and tired of sitting in silence when the Green and Gold are on the big stage.

It's well and truly time we started chanting and giving rival supporters some back (all in fun and games).

Sure the YouTube examples I post are from football/soccer, but doesn't mean the tunes are associated with it. Time to shed the conservative image that Rugby too often gets.

Chip in, I'll update this thread as we go.

    Wallabies

    Aussie Ole
Ausssieee Aussie Aussie Aussie, Aussie-e, Aussie-e
    Example:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Em-1UI4m18U *Minus clapping

    Waltzing Matilda
Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong
Under the shade of a coolibah tree,
And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled
"You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me"

    Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda
"You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me"
And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled,
"You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me".

Ah yes, singing, the best part of English rugby! I'm a Waltzing Matilda man myself.

I must say that Shit part of Fiji is awesome! That will defo be sung in my house on Saturday night, although I may have to edit t for the five year old.

A Waltzing Matilda sung at a slower tempo would be awsome. The fast chant is a bit too soccer.

Cant believe Ive never heard "same old AB's , always cheating " - Gold

How about this one for the Poms, similar to "Your going home in the back."

Your going home with nothing but Chariots.

I hate Waltzing Matilda when its sung at sport. Its about a guy who steals a sheep and when his back is against the wall he literally self destructs. Hardly motivational.

I love hearing Maltzing Matilda, and would definitely love to hear a bit more noise from Oz rugby crowds.

No offence intended, because I love the enthusiasm and the intent, and I agree with that wholeheartedly, but I'm not sure I'm convinced by the soccer-style chants. I reckon we need something which is ours, rather than aping chants from other teams/sports. I heard the 'come on you spurs' type chant all over the UK in the almost decade I lived there - it's association with soccer is very strong, and English soccer in particular. If we were playing England and the crowd was chanting this, it would sound like we were cheering for England!

What its about is not the point, ive been to english premier league games and rugby union clubs and the crowds know these long songs that have absolutely nothing to do with the sport, but thats not the point, its about unison, the crowd creating an atmosphere around what is a uniquely australian song that we all know. Waltzing Maltilda is that when done passionately.

It only has that association because, for the most part, it's the only sport that does it across the board (and so well).

I was concerned about the same issue earlier this year with the Army, instead we get the "AFL Cheer Squad" association (yuck!).

Hmmm i would argue that its more about someone would rather die than be free.

He also steals from a squatter someone who is attempting to take from the crown. Who is also in cahoots with the law.

Couldn't think of something that is more Aussie and a middle finger salute to empire really, and the confusing and contradictory state of affairs that exists till this day.

Army Gav im also not convinced by these soccer style chants.

I would encourage singing 'I still call Australia home'

And when we are playing at home and in the lead about to win the match maybe a chant like. 'The last plane out of Sydney's almost gone'

seeing as we are in a world cup year, and there will be plenty of pom fams creeping out from their hiding holes, especially if they start winning, you cannot appropriate Barmy Army chants. You will be jeered out of the stadium.

Shit part of Fiji is excellent

What makes them soccer style? A chant is a chant

Good suggestion with 'I Still Call Australia Home'. Probably a good one for away games. Perhaps one of the verses (I think #2):

Don't cry for me New Zealand

I guess it is just what teams/sports those chants are associated. Swing Low Sweet Chariot is also just a song - but we'd never try to sing that! Along the same lines, we'd jeer at another team taking up the 'Aussie Aussie Aussie' bogan chant, despite it originally being an English thing - Cornish, to be specific (though we changed Oggy to Aussie).
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oggy_Oggy_Oggy

I like the idea of ones that are recognised as Australian - 'I still call Australia home' is great, along with Waltzing Matilda. Pub With No Beer? A Home Among the Gum Tree? I Come From a Land Down Under would work, I reckon.
