If 10s was included in the Olympics I believe it would have a greater detrimental effect on 15s than 7s could. As mentioned above 10s is much closer to 15s than 7s. It caters for most shaped and sizes, but if there was a 10s World Series I'd predict you would also eventaully lose the real 'fatties' as quicker bulkier guys were recruited to keep the pace.

Over time I'd predict that because 10s and 15s are so similar 10s would
replace 15s in most non tier 1 regions. 7s however is quite different to 15s and requires specialists. To be an IRB member you cant just focus on 7s you have to a 15s comp locally. The IRB are doing this to ensure 15s survives. They may not be as strict if 10s and 15s were en vogue. 7s and 15s are essentially two distinct games and more likely to survive individually than if we were promoting 10s and 15s.

I prefer 15s, but I believe 7s is better than 10s and 15s to introduce non-rugby types to the game. 10s is simpler than 15s but 7s is an even easier introduction to the laws IMO.

That's a great point p.Tah, I Didn't even consider that angle.

Could it be the IRB are actually doing something logical? Maybe there's hope for the ARU after all.

Who knows, let's hope so. There is concern in Asia that 7s will completely replace 15s especially in China. So the IRB are sticking to their guns as far I know to ensure 15s doesn't disappear in the region. On the other hand places such as Vietnam don't have a 15s comp but 7s is making some in roads. Some want these countries included in the IRB to spread the rugby footprint. These counties could become associate members rather than full members.
