I thought I'd start this thread as a balm to some of the bitterness currently afoot in the lead-up to the RWC final. Let me begin by saying that New Zealand has the most excellent mountains. Much better than the Alps, and much closer than the Rockies. And also the world's best rugby team.

I'm a massive fan of pretty much everything New Zealand. With the exception of them beating us at Rugby. ;) Other than that they are sweet as bro.

Pretty much everything about NZ is pretty grouse, apart from the AB's beating the Wallabies a lot over the years. Can't wait to go back.

I'm so glad it was a Kiwi who wrote that, and not someone from NSW, Qld or Vic.

Wouldn't make it any less true.

It fucking is. Was in Hobbiton on a warm summer's day back in January, with the kids, loving every second.

Beer has never tasted so good as at The Green Dragon after a couple of hours in the sun, checking that place out. Rad.

Kiwi piss (puss) isn't bad either. They make some pretty tip top beer and vino. Fair to say my time in Hawke's Bay (c'mon the Bay) was one of the more pleasurable few days I've ever spent.

There's a few of us Kiwis in Canberra and I'd live in the ACT any day rather than move back to Sydney. You need at least an hour to dive anywhere, 3 in peak-hr traffic and probably 2 on the weekend.

Oh, and just the drive will cost you about $50.

My old man was born in NZ, in Wellington.
But, it was a short stop as his old man, an Aussie, was posted there with work, and then they moved to Fiji for a while before back here.
So I have something to thank the place for!
    It's pretty grouse, too, mayyyyyte!

Seriously though, I need to go back sometime - ride some rail trails, visit some wineries, and hit some balls at Cape Kidnappers and Kauri Cliffs. 'Tis a spectacular place.

I'd love to be in a position to fly over there with my hiking kit and some spare clothes, buy a 2nd hand car, and drive all the way from the top to the bottom, stopping where I pleased. Get to know the locals, drop in on some mates I've made through rugby, and generally seeing what there is to see.

Fresh air, fitness, sight seeing at my own pace, and no wife or kids to bitch and whine about how uncomfortable things are.

Bliss. Take about 8 months starting in late winter up north, then finish down south before the really cold weather sets in.

So the kickstarter will be in two stages:

    1) Get rid of the mortgage
    2) Fund the trip

I expect all you pricks to be extremely generous given my contribution to your otherwise average lives.

We might throw in some sympathy cash if the Wallabies win and you go on the Pfitz-Pfuck Pfamine.
And I'm sure there's a few posters who might be happy for you to disappear for 8 months! ;)
But I like they way you think.
