It was Newington that disrespected the tradition of Walk On in 1990 or 1991. Joeys put a cricket score on them that day. Joeys teams are very used to other schools getting very excited if they ever beat Joeys in any grade or age group, it is understandable because those wins are so rare. Joeys has no particular grudge or rivalry with Newington
If you mean 1989 you are correct in both respects. The game as at HH. It was the last game I attended whilst a school boy.

BTW
Where are all the View, Kings, Scots and Shore supporters?
This thread has been dominated by the Joeys v New game. I am keen to hear if the mud larks from Lane Cove can overcome the Gucci guys from Bellevue. Then it is the battle of the Anglican’s. A big game.

Yes, let's be clear. All of the Newington teams are playing Joeys as far as I can tell.

The issue is that Newington has only 16A, 16B and 16C whereas Joeys has twice as many teams and goes down to 16F. Depth of teams is the issue - not the willingness to play Joeys.

In my opinion there is absolutely no point Newington 16B (their middle age group team) playing Joeys 16B who are typically very close to the Joeys 16As and would win by more than a ton. So it is sensible to try to match the teams of similar strength across the age groups. This happens every week. The matches in the 16s are:

Joeys 16A v New 16A
Joeys 16C v New 16B
Joeys 16E v New 16C

Let's not forget that Shore 15A pulled out of the comp in 2017 as a result of several huge margin losses and concern over injury to players, but the age group later made a good comeback. So hopefully it's not a permanent condition.

Hello INP
Many thanks for providing clarity to the issue, I was under the impression that Newington had abandoned these matches. But as they playing down a team or more, it makes perfect sense and as such retract, my comments that reflected my disappointment. Yes in a perfect world it would be good to see New play, Joeys team for team. This way at least New teams make an appearance.

This week at north parramatta we see a win or die match for kings and shore. I can’t speak to much for shore but I understand that many boys for kings this week are coming back from injury and Henley.

the whole 3rds/4ths team has basically been moved down to the 5ths and so on, while some of the Henley boys have slid back into the 1s 2s 3s and 4s for this week.

within the 16As I think this could be a great match up two very similar teams with decently strong age groups but having their 2 “star players” being in the opens.

In the lower ages we could see some close match ups as well.

my predictions.
1s- can’t decide to close to call
2s - kings by a large Margin
3s- kings by 7
16As - shore by 7

No worries old friend.
As I have stated before I have come to appreciate the Newington lads and ethos.
My god son attends the junior school right now.

Dusk has been quiet. Hope to hear from him soon.

Finally, who here will be at the game this Saturday!

Not an issue about forfeiting but about the depth of the rugby program at Newington, and making the games fair (as it possibly can).

Last Sunday Kings had trial games against Trinity Grammar 1st's and 2nd's at home.

View will beat scots in every age group except 13s
wouldn't be so sure about that. Scot's 16s will present view with a massive challenge as well as scot's 14s. Scots 14s beat joeys in Trial 3 i believe where as View went down to joeys by about 10 points. 14A's will be the game of the season I think. I'm not sure about the strength of view 16s. Either way should be some good footy

I think Scot's vs view will be a great game at view. The big return of cummins should be a great help to scot's. Only proper injury for scot's currently is Prop Sam berckleman. I think Scot's can definitely win this game and will be able to play some good footy in the mud.

Heard of a few boys from Riverview getting sick. Hopefully everyone will be alright to play.

Props are speedy i think 16s could go either way, both teams have beat joeys and kings this year

Thoughts on 14s and 13s. Also to let everyone know, 14A Centre Ashton Large from scot's made the Australian schoolboys 15s merit team as a 13 year old, pretty incredible feat for him.

View 13a's have started the year well but a few people have told me scots have a cracker side in this age group. 14's view are very solid and although Large will be a big problem I see view winning. 15 a view lost their best player to a broken leg playing for Sydney.

My drum is that the Scots v Joeys 16As game was decided by an intercept that won the game for Scots 19-17 (3t2c v 3t1c).
The View v Joeys game was similarly close, 17-14 to View.
So maybe shouldn't put too much reliance on trial results.

In the 16s between Scot’s and view. View view A’s are missing their whole front row due to their hooker going to 2s their lose head prop getting a shoulder injury and their tight head prop’s brother getting covid. So I think tomorrow might be a tuff game in the b’s and A’s for view

Good to hear Dusk, I was getting very concerned about what was happening and over reacted. Welcome back and hoped you enjoyed your holidays.
