I believe the Kings lineup for the trial against view
1. Ashdown (1st 2022)
2. Park (1st and GPS 2)
3. Titi (2nd)
4. LangI (2nd and u16 NSW)
5. Barber (2nd)
6. Webster (1st and GPS white)
7. Durbridge (1st and GPS 2)
8. Miln (2nd though started in 1)
9. Smith (3rd)
10. McLachlan (2nd)
11. Yaffa
12, Fakafanua (1st)
13. Lokeni (2nd though started in 1)
14. Ramraj (1st)
15. Maroun (injured in 2022)

Some interesting choices and obviously Tonga still recovering from injury. No doubt there could still be few changes with some players obviously moved with Langi dropping back from the front row and Webster being moved to 6. Also a few kids in the 2’s that will be pushing for a position with Wait (1st 2022), Watts (2nd and u16 NSW) obviously unlucky to miss out.
Ashdown seemed to be injured, lotu I believe was the starting 1.

Today looked like a usual pre season game bit sloppy both teams building connections and confidence.

kings looked solid and showed their star strike in patches. Was impressed with Boston and maroun both my standouts in the backs. And I loved Langi’s work rate today. I think this team will be very hard to stop, scrumming was a bit messy good of been lots of penalties given against them for wheeling. Overall solid first trial and looking well leading into the season

Riverview looked solid in patches, had a couple good plays which led to points. I think it will be difficult for them looking at their depth especially in the foward pack it is lacking. I really liked the way their backline stood up to the task of handling Boston and tyrese in the centres. They defended well not leaking to much. I liked the 2nds 9 for view I believe he played 16As last year he was very good and will be pushing for a spot. The 1sts 10 was also id say their man of the match.

kings have Tonga to come back into this team and view have Grover.

kings won all 3 games against view.

Kings backline big kids. Be interested to see how their fitness goes in last 20. I’d be aiming to stay in touch and tackle your heart out and try to finish over the top. Good luck with that!
Not a lot of depth in lower grade backs(10 and 13 first standard) Solid in forwards with no stars in the lower grades.
Seconds 10 only year 10 and pretty small but was an old school play the game in front of you style, great to watch if has front foot ball.
Lot of year 12s, will be a strong year in depth this year but limited depth for next year.

@bring back rucking do you know the final score for newington 1st and 2nd XV against Knox?
No when I left it was 10-5 to newington in the second half… Knox winger red carded early in the first half for a swing tackle that went wrong. No malice in it and the player was fine, but was a clear red. Newington looked very good, much fitter than years gone by and quite a compete side

Good to hear. I've heard they also have some great depth with the backs. Multiple gen blue and GPS representative players From year 12 - 11

It was an extremely physical game against a very strong knox forward pack so will both be better for the run. I think newington won the seconds by a try or 2. All games were very close except for year 7

Newington won 33-5 , red card was unfortunate but Knox played with 15 for the whole game. Newington got a yellow but also played with 15.

Shore 16s vs Dara who came with 1 1/2 teams. Looked even in the As and the Bs result went to Dara. some big boys in the red and black. Good to see Shore playing a school they haven played for a while.
Shore 3rds gave High a 5-1 beating. Though one of the Shore players said High looked a lot stronger this year - which I think I read this year they might have 3 teams in the opens.

ITS BACK!

After an incredible 2022 season it, all came to the final round and through sheer luck or the intervention of Our Lady a couple of props came out on top. So how does this work.

TIPPING RULES.

Competition is open to all but it is a commitment. Be ready for a long season this year.
Each week you will have till close of business on FRIDAY to either message me or post your tips.
This is done by simply stating who will win and by how much. (this is where you get the points)

So how do the points get awarded?

1 for a draw

3 points for the win

5 points if the win is achieved between 1-5 points over your margin spread

10 points if you tip the exact margin

20 points if you tip the exact score (including a drawn score)

There were once five tippers from Sydney’s north shore. They gave me their tips for the weekend on this game Shore v Scots at the Highland plains.

Final score

Shore 32 Scots 0 (Shore wins +32)

NamePick and marginPoints won
BiffShore +53 (His team won)
TaddShore +305 (he was within 5 points margin spread and did not go over
SterlingShore +3210 (exact margin
MagnusShore +363 (his predicted margin was beyond the 5 point margin spread)
ChadShore 20-20 all0 (This is the hardest and no one has done this)

Please message me your tips ASAP during the week.

Tips are kept secret and then will be made public on Saturday morning for all to see.

NO CHANGES ALLOWED.

NO TIPS accepted on Saturday.

Q&A

What happens if I don’t get my tips in?

You are given the visiting TEAM. No margin is recorded. There have been weekends where all the visiting teams have won so the best you can get is 3 points per game.

Why do you have the points margin spread?

This keeps it interesting. Some players have a habit of getting the margin spread correct and hence can earn some big points in a round (Last year I have a major final round.

When do this competition’s entries close?

Saturday 13 May. It will start on 29 April though. Gives you a chance to have a look at this.

NO one enters after 13/5/2023

Will there be tipping for 2nd and 3rd grade?

No

Why?

Because this is a labour of love and with 10 rounds this season it will take up a lot of my free time. Adding more grades impossible.

What about CAS?

Unless they are playing a AAGPS school I will not be covering their season. They can go and play in their sandbox.

Show me an example?

Here is a round from last season.. You will season columns on the right. 2nd from the right is how many points were scored that round by the tippers and the column on the far right is the progress score.

Newington 1sts won 33-5
Newington 2nds won 22-5
Very impressive from both teams, not sure on how strong Knox are suppose to be this year but that is still a great score. Newington's 2nds have also been underwhelming in the past 5 years, hopefully they come back as strong as this score line suggests.

That was Knox fourth game in 11 days after their trip to NZ, so the boys were knackered, with a couple of injuries in the backrow still i believe.
Knox strength is up front with depth a huge problem in the backs. Always good to have a hit out against New though.

I don't deny that, a lot of testing will have taken place for both sides aswell. Newington vs Waverly should be a good indicator to see how Newington are performing and then Newington vs Barker will be a good test

Readers,

I am intending to unofficially cover the 3rd XV competition this year as I have in the past.

The teams are unchanged for 2023 - 3rd XV teams from Kings, Riverview, Joeys, Shore and Scots together with the 1st XV teams from Grammar, High and The Armidale School. Newington do not play in the 3rd XV comp as regular readers would be aware.

This year the 3rd XV competition remains one round of seven games - each team plays every other opponent once only, despite the change in the 1sts and 2nds competitions to two rounds. It also means that the 3rds have four trial matches and do not commence their comp rounds until Saturday 27 May.

Last year was an incredibly close competition with Kings and Riverview sharing the 3rd XV premiership and I am certain that this year will be equally exciting.

I try to produce game previews each Thursday before the round and match reports after the round games are completed.

Good luck to all players and teams for another great year of GPS rugby.

Regards
INP.

Augs and Kings play this Saturday should be an interesting game with Augustines having a very strong backline this year with Sam Blank, Joe Walsh, Tamoko and Tylan Berryman. Should be a very good test for the kings boys
