Thanks for that Done that, explains his playing style. He is fast, powerful and has a lot of upper body strength, in my opinion ideal characteristics for a no. 7.

Ideal yes, however I don't remember seeing him attack many breakdowns putting pressure on the ball - wasn't a pick-pocket - which is usually a 7's main role. His ball running, I thought, was perfectly suited for a number 8 role (he resembled our own Cliffy Palu).

In regards to the NSW Country representatives: They can select which pathway they want. The country sides are chosen before the school's tournament. The boys usually choose the school option (CCC, CHS etc) and then if they miss out on those teams they can at least be assured of playing within the Country set-up. That's, at least, to my limited knowledge.

Does horse trading go on between CCC, NSW Country Schools, and NSW Country Juniors over players who are playing village club footy outside Sydney Metro area, and therefore have a "double" pathway for rep honours?

Is a kid at a CCC school in the country also eligible for NSW Country Schools, similar question for a Stannies/Kinross/Chev (ISA) boy or TAS (AAGPS) boy who don't get selected for ISA or GPS teams?

It gets a little complex doesn't it.
Yes they are HJ. If a kid misses the CCC selection they can register in a zone team under NSW Country schools and attend the trials for selection. This was not known to the players until the question was asked and answer. Kids in regional areas are able to register in a zone team to play in the NSW Country school trials.I know last year of boys that were in the country junior team, were told that next year, if they chose to do schools they would not be doing NSW Country juniors, which is different to NSW Country Schools. From the NSW Country Schools, there were no such provisions.
Some boys originally selected at the country champs have gained entry into CCC or CHS, so it will be interesting to see if they are ALLOWED by one to do both.
One would imagine these two affiliations would work together to encourage boys to play more rugby and stay in the competition, but well wait and see. Schools program has been organised for a while, so hopefully these two groups work together rather than planning trial games on the same days, telling boys, if you can't make it you are out.
I have heard of one kid that couldn't make a camp this weekend due to school exams in the far north of the state, and was told if you are not there you will have to withdraw. He did! He is a talented player and has already been selected in the schools program.

Anyone have the CCC teams yet or will they be in tomorrows papers, along with the CHS teams?

CCC team is not in the SMH today.
The team was announced to the boys straight after the two day trial last week. The only players that I know who got in were a few Harold Matts Players (fullback for the Sharks and 5/8 second rower from the rabbits).

whatever

James Gourley St Paul's Catholic College (Manly, Secondary School)

Is this any relation to Scott Gourley?

He has a boy around this age, and lives somewhere around Freshwater.

i would not say there is trading, but you will not get a definitive answer from each of the bodies. In the 16's the carrot is the nationals, with nsw having city, schools and country. Most of the country kids. if selected, will choose the schools pathway as opposed to country. Cost is a major issue, and the politics of country can lead some to take the schools pathway. Until ARU make nationals a nsw 1 and 2, country will continue to struggle. They have lost too many good players and also coaches.

(Blatant plagarism of opening post from 2012 from Newbie)

Given that the NSWCCC trials are scheduled for today and tomorrow (21-22 May 2013) at St Gregory’s College, Campbelltown, I thought it appropriate that it's now time for "CATHOLIC BOYS TO MAKE SOME NOISE!"

At the U/16 NSW Schools Championship last year the NSWCCC team exceeded all expectations and drew with GPS2's in the 5th/6th place playoff.

When it comes to rugby NSWCCC teams are not generally strong given that such schools maintain close links to League (in fact they regularly take out the U/18 ASSRugby Lite title ).

So if anyone has any news on who is returning, or new players to watch out for, then post it here! Why let the snobs have all the say . lmao!

Regards,
Hugh (on behalf of Newbie):)

HJ,

Thanks for holding down the fort while I have been absent from my post(s) - pardon my pun - however I have been very busy as of late!

I decided to return to university a complete a Masters degree (which was an insane decision to begin with, but a necessary one) and needless to say it has taken up all free time! In addition I have been following the Lions tour since they arrived (with the exception of Perth), all of which is not making my better half very happy!

It probably goes without saying that I have not seen much junior rugby to date but I am still keeping my ear close to the ground for interesting gossip via close associates! Please read one such post in the junior rugby section you started!

22. Joshua ELLISON Marcellin College
23. Vaia TALIAI De La Salle Ashfield

Final Score: Papists 38 non Papists 38
Half Time: CCC 26 - ISA II 10

CCC - #12 (Ferris), #11 (Fiapuleniko), #5 (Denyer), #1 (Ford), #13 (Jennings), #20 (Cook) Tries (6). Conversions #14 (Tavete) x 2, #22 (Ellison) x 1.

ISA - 6 x Try, 3 x Con.

On the back of the reported scoreline against CHS II, who were beaten by NSW Country Schools in the early game today, I was expecting the ISA boys to run away with this.

In a game of two halves, the bigger and more physical CCC boys started much stronger and were able to build plenty of pressure in close before unleashing their backline who were able to score early and easily thanks to Ferris and Fiapuleniko. Another try from Denyer and ISA were on the ropes 19-0 down after 13 minutes.
Ford bulldozed over for a meat pie after 20 minutes and at oranges it was 26-10 to CCC.

In the Second half, ISA finally got some possession and managed to grab the game by the scruff of the neck. The purpose of these games is to trial before NSW Schools selectors as well as win games for bragging rights. With that in mind Coaches Mitchell and Lah replaced Ferris and Fiapuleniko. The CCC backline lost some of its zip although Jennings continued to trouble the opposition when he was rewarded with his own meat pie after 13 minutes in the second stanza. It was now CCC 31 ISA 24.

ISA scored again. CCC 31 - ISA 31 - 6 minutes to go.
From the kickoff ISA run in again. CCC 31 - ISA 38 4 minutes to go.
2 minutes to go ISA butcher a try. CCC finally get some possession and they rumble it up field.
With the referee advising that this is the last play, CCC grind up field against a tiring ISA and Cook scores near the posts. Ellison steps up and cooly adds the conversion to tie up the game 38-38.

The annoying bloke who keeps blowing a whistle immediately blows it for the last time, and the game is declared a draw, which was probably a fitting result.

LMAO@HJ

You had me reminiscing about my childhood days in Belfast where on the 12th of July every year the Loyalists would march to the cadence of "ONE KING, ONE CROWN, NO POPE IN OUR TOWN!'
