Well said SS, fantastic opportunity for all involved and by all account no country teams were disgraced by any means this year.

yes the U16's were very unlucky not to win the game. They led the whole game, just to see City get a penalty goal in the last seconds of play to draw level.

Great result from the Country 17's. Was a dominant performance, even when they were down to 13 men late in the first half due to two yellow cards. To a man the Country boys outplayed their City rivals and probably deserved to dominate the NSW U17's selections. Lets not down play the significance of selection in this NSW side, there are still a lot of talented individuals in team and they have all put in the hard yards to get there. Lets hope NSW Juniors now come up with someone for them to play.
I didn't see the game, if someone could tell me if country dominated the forwards that would be good as i have some thoughts to add if that is the case. As for selections i guess country should have got more but you cannot pick the country reserves over City starting players, which it appears the selectors haven't done. It would appear that maybe one country boys missed out. i would expect country to be a large piece of the NSw starting side. Hopefully the city boys will be made to travele to the country for training, as an old country boy I hope this is the case.

S'UP, the Country 17s dominated in the forwards, from my observation. They defended their line really well and were dominant in the scrums. The Country line out held its own. In the end three Country props got selected, so at least one reserve Country player was selected in the NSW 17s team. It would be nice to see NSW training in the Country given that two of the boys come from as far a field as Dubbo and Tamworth, but don't hold your breath!

Many people would think that the Central Coast U17's have had a good year. Firstly, winning 3 out of their 5 games in JGC, comfortably beating Illawarra. Next, winning the Country Championships, again defeating Illawarra and then taking out the State Championships, beating Eastwood twice in the process. But looking at selection into higher teams they only managed to get 5 selected in the NSW Country team and 3 in the NSW U17 team while Illawarra and Eastwood get 6 selected into the NSW U17 team. No wonder there is always so much discussion on the representative selection process!

Anyone heard any news confirming what the NSW 15's and 17's teams will be doing or who they will be playing?

Would be a shame for the Country boys (and the City ones) to come all the way through the pathway and not do much or play meaningful game.

From the SJRU website:
NSWJRU Invitational
On the October long weekend (4th and 5th Oct), NSWRU will be hosting the inaugural “NSW Invitational”.
This will be a festival of representative rugby to be played at TG Milner with teams ranging from the U15’s to U18’s on show.
The U16’s will see a round robin competition to be contested by NSW Country, SJRU, NSW Schools and a Western Sydney development side.
The NSW U15’s and U17’s will both be on show to clash with their counterparts from Brisbane Juniors, as well as an U16 Presidents XV and the Sydney U18’s.
Further details on the draw will be distributed closer to the date

I'm hearing that the NSW U17s will now only be playing Syd Under 18s on the Oct long weekend after Brisbane have pulled out late in the piece. Very disappointing for all the NSW boys concerned who have worked hard to come through this pathway.

Happened last year as well. NSW U17 (2013 ver) only played one game against ACT U17's.

Hardly seems to be worth the effort for one game.

Until we have more games on the pathway outside School Reps, then Schools will be the most popular development "pathway".

True, true Hugh. This pathway almost seems to be dead. Looks like the ARUs focus for 17s will be on the JGC and the proposed NSW and QLD sides that will be picked at the conclusion of next years JGC. Still it's a shame for this years crop that have worked hard with the promise of at least one game against an interstate side (not to be now). The problem with the schools pathway is the disadvantage it places country boys at.

True, and the boys need to stay positive.

Some boys have already worked out that pathway for country players is via rugby playing schools.there will soon be at least 9 illawarra players "away from home"not spending so much time travelling to training and out of area matches or playing in a local comp that has dwindling numbers. suspect this will have a knock on effect on the players available for country teams and maybe gold squad numbers from illawarra this year...a sad but true reflection of the limitted choices open to them

ST EDWARD’S COLLEGE, UNDER 14s: NSW COUNTRY RUGBY CHAMPIONS
St Edward’s College has a great history of success in rugby union and they now have a State Cup to add to their expanding trophy cabinet, after their Under 14 side recently won the NSW Waratahs Coast to Country Cup.
St Edward’s were the Central Coast champions after defeating Mackillop Catholic College, St Peter’s, Brisbane Water Secondary School and Narara Valley High School earlier in the year. This qualified them for the state finals which were held in Forster, on the 16th September.
The day was a success with St Edward’s finishing as undefeated champions.
· 19-7 vs All Saints, Lochinvar
· 7-0 vs McCarthy, Tamworth
· 19-5 vs Merewether HS
· (Semi) 14-0 vs Kinross Wollaroi
· (Final) 31-0 vs Alstonville HS
“It’s great to be undefeated and take out this competition“, declared the team’s captain Jack Wilkinson-Alipate. “Thanks to everyone involved, we’re all mates and we had great fun.” Their coach, Mr Paul Sullivan, was full of praise for his side proclaiming: “They are an extremely talented bunch of young men and have represented our school with distinction. The future looks bright.”
