Whilst admitting to becoming apart of the State Champs for the first time this year I clearly hear around the various trials and here on this forum that there seems to be a lot at stake. I hope the best team will win.... Cliche' I know.... However coming into the rugby system for the first after making a choice from league isn't there a bigger problem...
"that being the investment of the players from a school point of view and even a local junior rugby club." We made a choice a year ago to player Rugby and my son will give it his best go via hard work. What disappoints me more than anything are the players who still have not made a decision which sport to play. Players who make a NSW spot in both codes in the same year- common sense tells us that there is an eventual loser.... Why is this not policed or is it simply too hard ?

Help me understand?

Thanks for the insight in to CCC 16's Newbie. I too am a first time poster on these pages and have had extensive exposure to what seems to be a particularly strong agegroup. Having had the oppertunity to view many of the players being refered to in these pages via the NSW Country, JGS and GPS pathways I feel comfortable enough to have my two bobs woth in relation to who should or will make NSW All scholls 16's selection this year.
The forwards for me will be much harder (than the backs) to select with quite a few having genuine claims based on past and current form. So in non positional order, but probably merit based order, would think that the following players will figure in the squad. Matt Sandel (GPS), Nick Pennissi(GPS), Troy Smith (CAS), Malaki Afele(CAS),Luke Papworth (CHS), Lucas Bateman (GPS), Matt Matson (GPS) and Jamie Greentree (GPS). Throw in a couple of "bolters" from the CHS and CCC packs who on the day could prove to be more than a handleful. I must say however, having the oppertunity to see a couple of the CCC forwards play over the years, I do question the strength of the pack.
On the other hand, I think the backs will be far easier to pick with a few standouts who shouldn't miss out. Starting with Rory Davis (GPS) -daylight second in that position. Would take Joey Lusaik (GPS)or Jeff Markus(CAS) at 21 as either could be very effective late in a tight game at 9 or 10. Corey Tulloch(GPS) at 10 because of his exceptional defence and long parternship with Davis ( nothing would get thru the middle ) and lets face it, the ball will need to get to (quickly and often) where the real strength will be outside 10 with Tepai Meroa ( GPS) and Andrew Kallaway (GPS). Woulk be the best centre pairing I've seen in a few years. A major factor in the "new found" sucess of the Kings 16's this year has been the performance of Harry Jones at 15. Big, fast and strong, runs great lines. Would have him starting there. As for Micheal Morgan, I also have seen him play a few times and reckon him and Robbie Wolgram have similar skill sets (might come down to 1 or the other). The wing spots at this stage seem to be wide open with a number of players from different associations in good form.
In relation to the Harold Matt's Newbie, I've watched quite a bit this year and reckon although the format and program is very good quality, the standard of footy doesn't warrant the hype. Even the top sides Illawarra and Bulldogs have more than a few players who are only at best average athletes making it easier for the handful of genuinely talented players to shine.

So your backline is:

9. Davis
10. Tulloch
11. ??
12. Kellaway
13. Moeroa
14. ??
15. Jones

Bit surpised Jamo Clark's not there but I still like it. Have heard quite a bit lately about the combination between Davis and Tulloch and the success they have brought to Kings 16As. Kellaway and Moeroa speak for themselves - just get the ball to them! Like Jones at 15 too..an exceptional ball runner. In the absence of any really specialist wingers we'll nowdoubt see some other inside backs wearing 11 and 14.
Nice forward pack also with four good props there. I think that Depmsey and Macalman added to it would also provide plenty at the breakdown.

Scots second rowers

Does anyone know names of Boys in the second row from, View,Scots and New????

In reply to that TF5, scots second rower robertson, or deerob as he is mainly known, was in contention for a chance of NSW selection after an impressive start to the season but suffered a broken collarbone training before joeys, luckily scots has two excellent second rowers in mcivor and murray to cover

Kellaway is on the return, which will add even strength to the lineout, which was all over kings, even though scots lost the game. With Kamp and Kellaway back in there, it is looking the goods.

Thanks GPS RN, but who is this kellaway kid, thought he was in the 1st XV at Scots?? or does he have a brother?
And i agree with Kamp, the kid is explosive at the ruck situation

That is the first kellaway, Andrew, he has a brother Nick who is a work horse in the forwards. Scots will be keen to add him in there, hopefully addding some experience and rugby knowledge into the forward pack. Kamp is playing gordon, from what I hear, any reports on robertson's injury? will he back? was looking forward to seeing him back in action

Wow, so this kellaway isnt as good as his brother im guessing? anyone else got information on him?
And the rumor around GPS is that robertson will be back sooner rather than later, he is a big bopper and seeing him hit a short ball off Short in a trial match he was unstopable, will be good to see him back on the paddock?
Any News about weekends upcoming games, or next next weekends games?

I rate him when I saw him, he knows the game well, hard to compare to his brother but both solid players. I have been watching him since he was 10 years old at hunters hill. Good news about robertson, like to see him back on the field, that injury will probably prevent him from having a shot. I hear from my sources at scots that they are thinking of putting Dunbar in for a run in the 1sts? can anyone confirm this? He is of course the brother of Stuey Dunbar, the magician who was deprived of GPS 1sts spot last year...by some kook.

This week not too sure about all the teams, have to get someones else to confirm that...

Right, well if anyone has anything on those Kellaway brothers it would be interesting to hear, as one is coming back from injury and the other is playing 1st XV rugby?
Dunbar?? did this kid play against Kings, if so didn't see much of him.

I,m a bit surprised no one rates anyone from the ISA comp. In trials this year Oakhill College U/16's claimed the scalps of Barker,Knox and Shore. some of these boys already have played rep rugby for NSW in the 15's last year.Or is it because it's not CAS or GPS they don't count!

I'm a big fan of Jamo Clarke and could see him wearing 11 or 14 in the 16's. All will depend on how he performs with the big boys (CAS 1st XV), playing back 3 somewhere ?

I don't think it's a case of not rateing the ISA boys but more about who, based on past and present form deserves to represent All schools. I for one, couldn't give a rats ar%! about what school the boys go to. There will be plenty of worthy boys miss out I'm sure from ISA and everwhere else so don't take it personally.
