Looking more & more likely that Premiership & Championship divisions will be retained, main reason being that whereas the mooted North group is fairly compact, the South is a sprawl meaning the anticipated travel & accomodation savings won't be shared anywhere near evenly.

Apparently one Union has suggested that a portion of each Union's operating grant go into a pool from which NZR would pay for t&a up to a certain number of players, officials, etc & the Unions anything over & above.

Seems fair to me but as I understand it several Unions are opposed to it so it'll likely die.

Edit: this has Cantab Mafia written all over it: all for change when looking down the barrel at relegation, all for the status quo now they're not :).

^ no decision on M10* format but Heartland Championship will be back (Yay to that) & Farah Palmer Cup will revert to Premiership & Championship format.

*Edit: M10's sponsorship is up for renewal & I've heard that previous sponsor ITM (also a timber & hardware chain) are going all-in to get it back.

Hurld reporting that it's the Players Association holding up the change of M10 format. I'm not sure what their objection(s) would be?
