Hard to know what to make of this warm up game. Aus struggled to take wickets on day one, and then batted and bowled well on days 2 and 3. North has almost certainly played himself into the test team and McGain maybe played himself out of it, for the 1st test anyway. Rumours are that 4-5 Aus players, including McGain, were served by suzie the waitress on landing in SA and are still recovering. Hopefully they will all be good by Thurs. On the good news side, Clarke completed all the batting and fielding practice yesterday and is looking fit for the test.

Saw RG attended and took some pictures. Maybe she'll show us here. :nta:

Meanwhile the Stormers won our local T20 on saturday and Gibbs on fire. 87* in a total of 140 odd runs. Langeveldt the best bowler for us. Hope he will make himself available for the Aus series.

Test due to start this week.

This do cause a problem tho, rugby and cricket the same time. Saturday it was very difficult to decide between Gibbs batting and watching the Lions & Sharks match.

Why do you want Langeveldt to make himself available? Do we need him? And if he did the selectors wonlt even look at him. Tsotsobe will be the backup surely?

Was thinking about the one dayers.

50 overs
Leading Bowling Averages
Name Team M Overs Mdns Runs Wkts Avg RPO BB 4I
1 RJ Peterson War 4 28.1 1 116 9 12.88 4.11 5-11 1
2 PL Harris Ttn 3 27 1 109 8 13.62 4.03 5-27 1
3 RE van der Merwe Ttn 12 88.1 7 420 30 14.00 4.76 5-31 4
4 Q Friend Dol 8 54 3 252 14 18.00 4.66 4-38 1
5 CK Langeveldt Cob 9 63.3 8 286 14 20.42 4.50 3-34 0

They havent update the T20 stats yet but Langeveldt played one huge role for the Cobras , winning it. Not only did he bowled well in the final and in the semi with a super Super Over to beat the Dolphins but tied a critical match for them in a round robin against the Highveld Lions to qualify for the business end.
SACricket
Charl Langeveldt took three wickets in the last over as the bizhub Highveld Lions and the Nashua Cape Cobras played out a dramatic tie in their Standard Bank Pro20 match at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom on Wednesday.

Chasing 155 to win the Lions began the last over of their innings needing eight runs for victory.

Seamer Langeveldt bowled a dot ball first up and then claimed the wicket of danger-man Alviro Petersen, caught at long-on by Justin Ontong.

Petersen was out for 61 off 50 balls and the Cobras were back in the match. Dane Vilas then hit the third ball over cover-point for six to leave the Lions needing two runs to win off three balls.

The Lions tied the scores with two balls of the over remaining before Langeveldt had Werner Coetsee caught behind by wicketkeeper Andrew Puttick. Langeveldt then clean bowled Cliffe Deacon with the last ball of the match to leave the Lions on 154 for six to secure the tie.

This from a man who withdraw himself from the international team because they pick him in stead of Nel and he felt he wasnt picked on merit but on skin colour.

That cause the end of the road for Arendse who tried his outmost best to play a Stofile like role in our cricket and attack langes in the press for being brave enough to do what he did.

If Arendse stayed on in cricket there would have been no Graeme Smith or Mickey Athur in our cricket today.

My 11 for the 1st test.

1.Hughes
2.Katich
3.Ponting (c)
4.M.Hussey
5.Clarke
6.North
7.Haddin
8.McDonald
9.Johnson
10. Siddle
11.Bolinger

Talk of Hilfenhaus replacing Bolinger but I will stick with Bolinger although I think Hilfenhaus will be a better test match bowler than he is a one day bowler.
I think Bolinger was unlucky in Sydney & should of had Smith twice before he went off injured with a broken hand.
If Bolinger can get on top of Smith it will give the Aussies a real chance of an upset.

Not so sure about that, altho Smith grow up & schooled in JoBurg, Maccie will be the real dangerman batsman at the Wanderers.

Thanks RugbyGal, know you would respond.

The test start tomorrow 10 but I wont be surprise if rain play the biggest part. Raining most of the week and saw they practise indoor.

Hilfenhaus would deifnitely be in my team on a green wicket expected to swing:

1.Hughes
2.Katich
3.Ponting (c)
4.M.Hussey
5.Clarke
6.North
7.Haddin
8.McDonald
9.Johnson
10. Siddle
11.Hilfenhaus

Bollinger as the twelve man with the two spinners as the left right outs.

Mark you think it will swing? Dunno the wanderers green mambas are gone long time ago. Myself think they'll give them plummiesh wickets.

Anyway , comes rain or sunshine they'll honour one of the best batsman in history of cricket, Graeme Pollock. He'd one of the first names if I had to pick my all time criket XI

Greama Pollock honoured by ICC

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is getting ready to honour South Africa batting legend Graeme Pollock this week during the first Test between South Africa and Australia in Johannesburg.

The left-hander is set to be formally inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame during the tea interval on the first day of the match on Thursday when he receives a commemorative cap to mark the occasion. The ceremony is the highlight of the ICC's Catch the Spirit week in the country, aimed at promoting the organisation's centenary celebrations.

Pollock, the brother of former South Africa pace bowler Peter and uncle to ex-Proteas captain Shaun, is one of only two South Africans in the initial intake of 55 players in the Hall of Fame, a joint venture between the ICC and the Federation of International Cricketers' Associations (FICA).

The other, Barry Richards, received his commemorative cap ahead of the ODI between Australia and South Africa at the WACA Ground in Perth in late January.

Graeme Pollock's international exposure was cut short by South Africa's sporting isolation but even in a truncated career he stamped an indelible mark on the game at the highest level.

In 23 Tests he made seven hundreds and 11 fifties from only 41 trips to the crease and of players to have played 20 innings or more in the longest form of the game, only the great Donald Bradman (99.94) averaged more than his 60.97.

In first-class cricket Graeme Pollock was scarcely less devastating with 29 040 runs at an average of 54.67, including 64 hundreds and 99 fifties.

The cap presentation ceremony is a key part of the celebrations to mark the ICC's centenary year as it acknowledges the greats of the game and the contributions they have made to ensure cricket is a great sport with a great spirit.

Other ICC Cricket Hall of Famers to have received their caps so far in 2009 are ex-Australia wicketkeeper Rodney Marsh and the West Indies trio of former captain Sir Vivian Richards and fast bowlers Michael Holding and Andy Roberts.

Further cap presentations will be made during the course of the year and a limited number of inductees, in addition to the 55 already chosen, will be named during 2009.

The Catch the Spirit week in Johannesburg is part of a range of activities across the continent of Africa to celebrate the spirit of cricket and 100 years of the ICC.

Thats interesting, there's been a few reports here that the pitch was looking mighty green. ???

Well done to Pollock BTW.

It will gave bounce but the Wanderers isnt the same as it was in the past. Remember that record one day score between the two teams?

Maybe the sails over the pitch may give it a bit extra and the first two days may favour the bowlers but think it will play like your normal tests pitches.

SA usually struggle in the first test of a series.

All clear skies in JoBurg and this one about to start

Cricinfo
And it's just been confirmed that Australia have left out Bollinger, so McDonald gets his chance as the fourth seamer. It also gives Australia a long batting line-up with McDonald and Brad Haddin at Nos. 7 and 8

Is there a spinner in the team?

Good comeback by the Aussies in the end, and massive moment in Smith dropping Ponting. Australia would feel like they are almost on top after that horror start. I expect that the top order won't fail like that in the second dig.

From all reports North is batting very well. If Australia can go through the first session of day two losing only one wicket, then they will definately be on top. South Africa could roll them for not much more than 300 though if they pick up a couple in the first hour.

Ja that drop catch by Smith was vital. Not for the wicket but mentally. Anyway myself think the pitch look like a true one and will get easier as the days go on. Think a 320 for Aus at least is a good one. Some hard work for our bowlers and now it look Kallis habe a back problem, even worse.

Hope they break the spectator record tho. 10,000+ on day one is good to our standards.
