Goromaru is a confirmed Red and will take up a Japanese international position in the squad. Another international is set to be announced however no word just yet

I thought the Oz Super Rugby teams were allowed one Japanese international player to be outside their number - if that's the case what about Hendrik Tui? He was our allocated Japanese player, are we allowed two now?

There will be a bit of a language barrier there - don't think Goromaru speaks any English based on the MOTM interview I saw of him.

Of course, first he needs to get over the rugby barrier with The DFG.

I think I remember reading that there were two spots for Japanese players, don't quote me on that though ;)

Ok, so what impact do we think this has? Do we assume that Hunt will now play 12 inside Samu or 13 outside him?

Goromaru will start won't he?

Or do we only get these guys once the Japanese season has finished?

Back to the Hunt question, its a shame because I think he looked better at fullback than at 13. If we were to play him at 12 then we should have put him there in the NRC.

Or perhaps Goromaru will play elsewhere? Wing perhaps?

What are we thinking of Henry Taefu? He really impressed with little game time at the Rams, is he worth a look at for a super team? I didn't get too much of a look at him this year but he can't have been too bad in an undefeated team...

Hunt to 12 with Kerevi 13 IMO. Rather at FB but this seems unlikely atm.

That would be my call. And yes it creates questions on his NRC position. I also think it's a big call in his second rugby season. FB was better.

Intruders advice remains the most interesting news regarding the Reds.

I would play Hunt at 12,all the options at 10 will need help from the 12.
And I agree they should have played him there in NRC.

Well it's done. I took a 3 game membership. Might seem a small commitment but I live in Sydney and it needs a little arranging to get up to Brisbane for rugby.

Can't say I'm happy with the RG thing nor the executive that put and keep him there.

I'm going to do my damndest for that to be my last coach complaint. Can't guarantee it.

Doing membership should feel more triumphant than this.

dru, I think the most important thing will be to take pleasure in the little things.

The scrum should hold up as one of the strongest again, the lineout hopefully will as well. With Thorn as development coach we might just see a pack with real grit - which we need (Douglas could compete with Retallick and Etsebeth). As well as our young, immensely talented backs who will be finding their feet but should show us some positive signs of the future.

Going in with hopes of a drastic turn around might just cause too much strain on the heart (though by round one I will be carried away and excited enough to call us championship contenders [which we will be]).

1. Faagase 2. Fainga'a 3. Holmes
4. Neville 5. Simmons
6. Schatz 8. H.Tui 7. Gill
9. Frisby 10. Mcintyre 12. Hunt 13. Kerevi
11. Sautia 15. Goromaru 14. Nabuli

16. Ready 17. Daley 18. Talakai 19. L.Tui 20. Korzycke 21. Tuttle. 22. DP 23. Magnay

* Picked reserve backs who have versatility btw

Presuming
- no more big name signings (think Perese is getting some kind of contract aswell)
- douglas, slipper & JJT out for at least a little bit with surgery
- everyone else is ok to play

He could play the Spring Tour

Are the Reds going on a post-super rugby tour like the good old days? ;)

Douglas may as well write off the 2016 season if he has done those CLs and aim for the back end of the NRC. Generally you want 12 months for it to really heal up, so it wouldn't surprise me if he just forgoes 2016 and aims for 2017. The surgeon knowing what happened to Pocock will be gunshy about rushing Douglas back.

Has Schatz played 6 much? My only concern there is he never looked that imposing with ball in hand - I may well be mistaken, but I see blindside as someone who can run the ball up hard, with athleticism and mongrel - Jerome Kaino being one of the best exponents of this, and Scott Fardy showing a great example too.

My concern with playing Hunt at 12 is he has just spent the NRC playing 15, now we swap him to an unfamiliar position?

Those forwards look pretty good, Neville has impressed in the NRC. Not sure about the wings, not familiar with Nabuli at all, so hope he can make the transition back to rugby well enough.

Yeh Him, Higs and Samo swapped around a tad, I guess Tui can play 6

Traditionally
7 is the breakdown/tackling machine (Think Pocock)
6 is the lineout option, workhorse, notquiteasecondrow (Think Fardy)
8 is the crash ball, impact hitter, givemetheballandIllmakeadent (Think Vermulean)

Kaino and Read could easily play the other way around, don't think it'd matter much, just about having the optimal mix of abilities represented.

Korzcyke still on the young side being only 18, same as Fakasolia...so either Browning or Schatz to play with Tui at 6/8...tbh those 5 are all pretty much the same height and weight so its 6 in one, half a dozen in the other.

Hunt has more experience in the line then at 15 in professional rugby union. League fullbacks dont need to have quite the tactical kicking nouse and thinking with Goromaru as a specialist 15, Hunt, from his time in the NH and 13 at Reds, can pass, call and step, but also run hard and tackle like a beast. Those attributes are more clear in him then the tactical knowhow of a proper Fullback.
