If Lillicrap, who is considered the scrum specialist...replaces mcgahan, surely it will be as the forwards coach. Thorn isnt exactly a specialist defence or backs or attacks coach, so will they need 2 more assistants, or be woefully unprepared is a particular rugby department?

I'm still waiting for BT or Miller to explain his drunken removal from a pub after the Brisbane Test against the Irish.
Certainly smacks of double standards in respect of cultural change !

Why not Lillycrap? It is odd I think that someone like that will get recognised more quickly than a coach coming through the clubs, but he seemed to do alright in the scrum. There is enough evangelical dictates happening that we don't need to add "drunk in the pub" to the list. To be fair I have no idea as to how suitable Lillycrap is, I just don't like these things being determined by puritanism. Does not seem a smart plan of management.

I can only assume Lillycrap will be continuing his role as head physio in addition to forward coach. Sam Cordingly must have been asked to find savings, and this is his solution

I think Scrubber's point is that if you are going to go all 'high behavioural standards' with the players why not expect the same from the mature adult staff as well? It sends a mixed message to the playing group.

TT I think was brought in. or at least announced while Stiles was still there, although that might have been the QRU lining things up before they got rid of Stiles.

I do get this. My response though is to challenge the puritanism, not the "drunk in the pub" which has already flown.

A Manager needs the ability to manage, not simply be locked into his/her own polemic ultimatums. They should be a lot smarter than that.

It want Lillycrap just being drunk. That's not really bad IMO.
The problem lies in the fact he was not only drunk but aggressive and was chucked out by security.
That's a double standard for me and should be a triple one for BT and the Board.

Surely we would expect action from Thorn if one of his charges was caught drunk and aggressive and thrown out of a pub. I'm not actually doubting that.

I just don't want to wind it up, if anything I'd like Thorn to be counseled to circumspection and to keeping options open.

Good point - you would think that if he was happy there he'd be looking to get a longer term contract and the QRU would want to lock him in.

1 year deals are the norm usually around the World Cup.

Everybody wants opportunity to represent their country but after the tourney is done everybody wants the big money on offer in Japan & Europe.

Perhaps this is mixture of the reds taking await & see with ASG (I’d sign him longer) but this could also be agent driven looking for a bigger payday post World Cup.

I can't think of any environment that doesn't have cycles. We want to hit hard during the down times, and in the background focus on skills we may otherwise want - looking elsewhere?

I think one year deals are going to be pretty standard from the reds atm. The chunk of the salary cap tied up with quade, hunt and slipper this year means players know they can potentially get a lot more in a years time if they're renegotiating. It's probably going to see the reds pay over the odds for a few guys in 2020.

sweet as mate. All I’m pointing out is why players sign 1 year deals around this time of a World Cup cycle.

Like you I wish the reds front office was more component and proactive but they are not.

My thinking as well.

ASY (Angus Scott-Young) is in a different position to most of the young guys. He'd still be at uni completely his Med degree I'd imagine, so I can see that would be playing on his mind about going overseas.

Although, going over to Cambridge and playing/studying over there would be a pretty great life experience and for me atleast would have been appealing.
