That 'only' thing is huge. The close games are usually decided by goal kicking. If he is able to maintain that kicking accuracy I can't see how he could be dropped. I admit that Kellaway is better on attack and probably defence but we wont advance very far without an accurate goal kicker.
I heard Matt Burke interviewed the other day and he emphasised how important goal kicking is. He got us home in 1999 and it will be the same this year. Donaldson hit the ball beautifully today , can someone just teach him how to tackle!!!

Well they got the win and had a few good points but a few bad ones

the box kicking needs to stop in the opposition half. We are now playing 2-3 phase then kicking / you need the ball to run eddie, will this work v Fiji back 3 or any top nation? Was as much kicking as afl. I don’t mind the cross field kicks at times but I didn’t think I would see another box kick in the opposition again after SA used this

Good
- the pack is bloody huge. Was 960 compared to Georgia 907kg
- Skelton is bullying guys, tupou is fit and he and bell are great ball carriers
- valetini was great
- back line was good with koribete, Marky N and petaia looking dangerous
- Kerevi will get better with each run - we don’t seem to be using out game around him now like we did before

bad
- Arnold stuffed the line out maul chance - doesn’t offer much - what’s he offer that Neville of frost
- constant kicking was terrible, need to cut the box kicking in the opposing half
- unfortunately Donaldson was okay, only in the right place twice though, he still won’t ignite any attack v a good team like kellaway
I think the binders went too soon and didn’t let Arnold get the ball down

Going back to Squidge's analysis (pretty hefty grain of salt there) this was another game where Eddie has kept his powder dry. Hence the fairly one dimensional kicking game.

Hmm mhmm hmmm nothing Donaldson did today would impress me unfortunately. If he replicates it against Fiji & Wales then maybe. But Georgia ain’t it. Though he definitely didn’t do himself a disservice. Would love Kellaway to come onto the bench instead of Vuni.

apparently Kerevi coming off at 40 was always planned. Our backline sucked in the 2nd half, 12. Foketi 13. Koroibete 14. Vunivalu 15. Donaldson was awful.

Feel bad for Faessler, gonna be a brutal review on those three missed throws. Wonder what went wrong.

wouldn’t hate Pone or Slipper back soon, hopefully provide a bit more stability to that wonky bench. I keep expecting Gleeson to tear it up but nothing yet.

would hate to be a 9 with skelton around the ruck. Can't remember the last game he didn't charge down a box kick

A win to start the World Cup is what was required and the team delivered. Some good patches and as some have said the heat was definitely a factor and also may have dictated game plan. I think Eddie will change personnel each match to use full squad depending on the opponents. Man of the match Donaldson, first game in some time, could find himself in the 10 position next week with Kellaway into 15 and Gordon to the bench? I wouldn’t rule it out, as Eddie definitely has a few more curve balls to come, but do know it will be a game by game situation based on the strengths of the opposition.

Yes which I still can’t believe… we need experience
I understand the concept of what you have said but have always found it to be a strange comment that makes no sense to me.

Skill and points scoring ability combined with defensive skill are the most important thing, not having played a ton of games.

Marky Mark (Nawaqanitawase) is one of the least experienced players, do you drop him because another winger has 100 games?

HW’s comments probably best let go through to the keeper.

Lot of chat about keeping our powder dry, I hope this is what was happening because the one out bashing up we served up this morning won't cut it against the best teams, and maybe not even against Fijii next week...

Jones has talked constantly about 'not copying the kiwis' and playing what's in front but they seemed pretty structured to me: wave after wave of big ball carriers trying to generate quick ruck ball. How many phases involved more than 2 passes?

Accurate contestables are a nice addition though, with Nawaqanitawase outstanding in chase.

This is the problem right here. If we want to be a chance at winning the World Cup then we should be knocking off Georgia by 50+.

But hey, if you’re all ok with a quarter final finish then good for you.
I am pretty sure that if we win all our games by 1 point we win the whole thing. At this stage the bonus point should be the focus, not cricket scores

I think only one was completely his fault (overthrow on their line). The line out just became a shambles when we had no recognised jumping locks on the field.

Lack of height at the line out after Arnold went off, no specialist second rower, the Georgians were able to read it well.

Having just watched the whole game, I was pretty happy with the performance. Gordon very solid, great boot; Donaldson surprised me and was very good and did everything expected of him; Mark N (Nawaqanitawase) and Petaia threatening constantly; starting FR and indeed whole pack v good in scrum; no-one seemed to shirk their job. Hopefully Tate is not out for long. A bit looser with subs but overall a good outing.
