Competing with blokes like Hook and Priestland for fly half utility.

Don't rate either of them. Hook has not been very good at test level for years and Priestland never realised the promise he showed in his first couple of tests. IMO both a more likely to lose a test than win one.

Hook's had a rather good season for Gloucester, whereas Anscombe has been somewhere between poor and average for Cardiff, he'll certainly have an opportunity between now and the world cup to show his worth to Gatland though.

Oh ffs! I mean the worst but clearly is that he thought drink driving was acceptable, but from an England front it means Farrell will 100% make the squad. Not that that was really in any doubt but I had my fingers crossed!

Has the potential of an RWC-squad position coloured Farrell's lack of a ban?

Farrell has hardly been an angel with regard to off-the-ball incidents.

Was Cipriani ever going to play over Farrell and Ford anyway?
No, but I could still have prayed that we would have taken Ford and Cipriani. Not gonna happen now.

Farrell has hardly been an angel with regard to off-the-ball incidents.

I would like to think not, but he has clearly got away with it. Therefore it has, or I am uberbiased.... :p Oh and it wasn't off the ball, was a dangerous tackle.

On the otherhand his forearm did make first contact with Watsons face... and Watson is taller than Farrell at first glimpse!

With the majority of the Scotland squad playing for one club ie Glasgow who has just beaten Munster as underdogs in the Pro12 final, there'll be no issues with team cohesion!

Ultimately, yes. Cotter, and a little bit of Johnson before has started to more or less cut experienced players in favour of talent that fits his mould, while others have retired.

Guys like Nic de Luca, Kelly Brown, Johnnie Beattie, Geoff Cross, Max Evans, Moray Low and Scott Lawson have been left outside the squad, while a few others like Al Kellock, Dougie Hall and Euan Murray have retired as well. Jim Hamilton would have been in that group if he'd not had a good end of six nations and Premiership.

By and large that's a squad picked on form, talent, and style rather than experience, it's a risk yes, but a calculated one.

The most interesting selection for mine, and I'm going to comment on it is Stuart McInally as one of only 3 hookers. Mid 2013, he was a bee's dick away from making his international debut as a blindside flanker. He switched to hooker for Edinburgh after that, with the change in scrum rules. It's taken a while, but he had a great run of form at hooker while Ford was out for the 6 Nations and from the bench after. With a number of back row injuries later in the season, he was shifted back to blindside and played very strongly there as well. Huge show of faith in him by Cotter to not only select him, but select him as one of only 3 hookers ahead of others like Scott Lawson and Pat MacArthur.

And one that is paying off slowly but surely IMO. The Scottish backline, especially the back 3, are certainly more dangerous than I can remember them ever being. I'm a youngster who has only really been following the game since about 2005 though...

^^^ Is that what is wrong with Italian Rugby?
They have named 28 Avanti (forwards) and 22 Trequarti (Three quarters) in their RWC squad. Where are their half backs (mediano?), five eighths (cinque ottavo?), and full backs (terzino?)? :)
