So the test seriesse is done and dusted and level packs 3 all if you combine the two seriesse. A summary of this was that it surely delivered some exciting and good to watch cricket. Altho we slipped up at home I still have enough respect for the Aussie cricketers to think that our lot did a great job this summer. If you'd ask me before the seriesse started if I would be satisfied with this result I'll sure accepted it. Must say I am not only satisfied with the way our lot played but also the way they behave on and off the field. Give me the Aus or SA pitches anyday in front of that dull 700+ score ones. The secret is that it have to give bat and ball a change and all the tests produce results and only the last one not going into day 5 (not sure). Myself also likie this referal system. Always felt some umpires made to many hasety decissions and this system will make them think twice. You wont get them all right but I think the system is spot on. Maybe a tweek here and there and you'll have the best one. About time cricket use technolloggy to get the right decission and cant ask for more.

Next up is two T20 matches and 5 One Dayers. SA will sure try and stepup from where we left in Aus in the One Dayers to make that nr1 spot safe. They dont play many internationals this year and will go in a long winter sleep after this one.

ODI squad: Graeme Smith (Nashua Cape Cobras, capt), Johan Botha (Chevrolet Warriors, vice-capt), Hashim Amla (Nashua Dolphins), Mark Boucher (Chevrolet Warriors), AB de Villiers (Nashua Titans), JP Duminy (Nashua Cape Cobras), Herschelle Gibbs (Nashua Cape Cobras), Jacques Kallis (Chevrolet Warriors), Albie Morkel (Nashua Titans), Morne Morkel (Nashua Titans), Makhaya Ntini (Chevrolet Warriors), Wayne Parnell (Chevrolet Warriors), Dale Steyn (Nashua Titans), Vaughn van Jaarsveld (bizhub Highveld Lions).

T20s starting tonight at the Wanderers and our lot have a score to settle in this one. IPL srats over a few days time in SA and the T20 WC not in the to far distance , so some value added to this outings.

Two over the weekend starting tonight at the Wanderers. Our lot should take a lot of confidense in this one after the last test victory and good to see some T20 dpecialist newbies in our squad.

Squads:

South Africa - Johan Botha (capt), Yusuf Abdullah, Hashim Amla, Mark Boucher, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Herschelle Gibbs, Johann Louw, Albie Morkel, Justin Ontong, Wayne Parnell, Robin Peterson, Dale Steyn, Roelof van der Merwe, Vaughn van Jaarsveld.

Australia - Ricky Ponting (capt), Michael Clarke (vice capt), Nathan Bracken, Callum Ferguson, Brett Geeves, Brad Haddin, Shane Harwood, Nathan Hauritz, James Hopes, David Hussey, Michael Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Ben Laughlin, Marcus North, David Warner, Cameron White

Glad to see our lot have added some T20 specialists in our squad.

So that man Morkel did it again. SA win with 4 wickets and a nice crowd out there. Any of you folks watched?

Watching a bit last night and some good doisplays by our newbies. Roelof van der Merwe sure look the bits in this format with bat and ball and a match winning performance by this Brute last night. SA takling it 2-0 and some head aches for Athur to pick a WC T20 squad.

the One dayers to start friday and the Proteas look tip top at the moment.

Beware the T20wins Oom! We took both ours at a canter over here and lost the series.

Yep their results always some of a unknown quantity. If you look at our squad you see my reason for optimism. A Much more experience look like we had for the T20s.

PB, I think your team will win the ODIs quite comfortably. Our team is still in transition and I think we have come back along way since our WC win in 2007.

Jacques Kallis out with a injury and in come Roelof van der Merwe. Roelof a left hand spinner and like we saw in the T20 , a big hitter. Glad he grab his change with both hands and now rewarded. In fact I think Athur & kie should give more one day specialists changes.

Looking at that it sure shows how close this two teams are.

Sorry Moses, more reason for Athur & kie to turn it around. Look like they finally saw the effect of spinners against Australia. The more the merrier, but I hope for your lots sake the Poms havent saw this. :thumb

PB,

The Poms may have seen it, but it is more of an issue for Australia in the T20s and ODIs, not the Tests. And I for one don't really care much about those forms of the game. Just a bit of entertainment.

I'm with you blokes, the interest in these 5 match ODI series is minimal at best. I don't mind the world cup but they'd be better if other teams would occasionally win them just to mix it up a bit.

Personally I'd rather see an extra Test or replace the ODI's with T20

If you played the game you surely understand the caracter of it so much better. Loving test cricket, trying to stay on top and trying to fight back or for survival. Also as a bowler to try to out think the batsman and the pasience of batting and playing each ball on merit. Pretty interesting watch this top players and the amount of them not sticking to the good old basic of the game. Batsman , play your eye first in before going for some shots or as a bowler to first fix the line and length before trying something funny with the cherry.

Must say the current seriesse was the best ever between SA & Aus in the modern days. So much better to watch teams close with one another and surely playing on pitches in both countries where there is always something for the bowler. This flat decks cricket where the bat dominate makes for bore cricket.

The thing that gets me is they say these roads of pitches are built to get the game into the 5th day... yet all 6 tests between Oz and SA went to 5 days and all 6 were closely contested affairs.

Thats show the quality of the pitches. Look at the recent Windies vs Pom series and 700+ runs inningse , not good for the game. I am looking forward to this India tournament starting in a few days time, only to see Warney do his magic again. Love to watch spin bowlers.

Talking of spin bowling, look like SA will play our own Bull Dog in cricket, Roelof van der Merwe again in the first one. He sure made a impact in his T20 debut and we will be well equiped with him and Botha and adding Smith and Duminy as part timers. Roelof defnitely not a text book batsman but like we saw can hit them high and far.

If there's one thing you can take from the first ODI, it's empathy for the Reds.
At least the Reds got a consolation try though..
