The Southern Inland Representative side will play Monaro and South Coast in the Brumbies Provincial Tournament at Batemans Bay. Southern Inland will play South Coast on Sunday (June 9) and Monaro on Monday (June 10) after South Coast play Monaro next Saturday (June 8)

Interesting selections for the SIRU First 15. I'm not sure that the 3 Steamers who made it, would be the top Steamers in each of their respective positions. Good sign for the Steamers I think. Good luck to the boys!!

Brumbies Provincial Rep Squad selected

The Brumbies Provincial Representative Squad was selected at the completion of the Brumbies Provincial Tournament last Monday at Batemans Bay. The Squad will take on a Combined Aust . Services Side in late October at Canberra.

Great work by all players who made the squad - specially the Steamers. How would this squad rate against the best of SIRU if all players were available? And how would this squad fair against some of the other provincial squads - or in the 3rd tier competition if it ever eventuated?

#SIRU2013 Round 9 Preview

The City v Albury match is a clear match of the round this week, however there are a number of really interesting matchups across the competition – Coota v Waratahs, Leeton v Griffith and Tumut v Temora will all have an impact on how the table looks due to the tight nature of that “middle of the field” bunch. The majority of players should be fresh after having the long weekend off, although the break can be good for those niggling injuries, it can sometimes play havoc with consistency.

Young (11) v CSU (2)
The Yabbies have another tough match this week against a CSU side that will be keen to make amends for their first loss of the season last week.

Coota (7) v Waratahs (4)
An important match for both clubs as they come into the final rounds of the regular season this week, there are only 7 points separating these two teams on the ladder, although Coota are yet to gain their 4 points for the bye round so the reality is that these two teams are a lot closer on the ladder than it shows at present.

Both these teams have appear to be putting some more polished performances together recently and will be keen to continue this progression. The respective forward packs of each team will be reasonably evenly matched, although Cootamundra may be smarting with the loss of key player Alex Hardie. This will be a good solid match and both teams will contest to the very end.

Tumut (10) v Temora (9)
Although the Bulls haven’t had their greatest season to date, their forward pack has been the backbone of their go forward so far. Temora probably have the edge in the backs, but will need to be wary of the strong Tumut forwards as they head into this clash.

Ag College (5) v Deniliquin – 2nd Grade Only

Leeton (6) v Griffith (8)
Another game that will impact the ladder this week, there are only two competition points separating these two teams in this match up. Leeton have been a surprise packet this year along with CSU and deserve to be sitting where they are on the ladder, Griffith on the other hand, probably haven’t achieved what they set out to but will be looking to bag all the points they possibly can over the next three weeks. Both these teams are mathematical chances of making the top 6, but they need some results to go their way for that to happen.

City (3) v Albury (1) – Match of the Round
I think most pundits would have thought that the Aggies v Albury match was the benchmark of the competition this season, but it appears that this match will be the litmus test for both Albury and City this year. Both these teams have had very successful seasons, Albury have been particularly strong – bagging maximum points in all their matches.

Richard Manion will be a loss for the Steamers over the coming weeks, Blake Le Cornu has stepped into his shoes and will have his work cut out for him opposite Hamish Wrafter this week. Ash Lefevre impressed for the SIRU Rep Team in Batemans Bay and will be a key player in the forward pack this week. Both the Steamers and City have some big boppers running around in the pigs with City possibly having the edge in terms of physical size.

Joe Tora has moved to Number 8 for City this week, presumably as a counter to the strong running game of Nathan Bright. I believe that the combination of 8,9,10 for both teams will go a long way to deciding the outcome of this match. Both teams have experienced campaigners in these positions and will need them to be on top of their game this week.

The Wagga City Centre pairing of “young gun” Eddie Lagaali and the “evergreen” Orisi Loco will be a handful for ex –flanker Louie Levett. Levett is a handy footballer, but this match will test him in the centres, particularly the defensive prowess of Orisi Loco. Orisi’s fitness may not be where it has been in previous years, but he can tackle like a trooper.

Further out in the backlines, it will be interesting to see how ex-Brumby Runner Jason Lagaali fairs against Albury’s James Olds at fullback. Olds is new to the competition but comes with some good wraps, even making the Brumbies Provincial Team last week.

This will be a cracking match for both teams and one that I’m really looking forward to. Hopefully, the wet weather we have had here for the past week holds out and allows these guys to play some expansive rugby this weekend!
