We need Warner to stand up here. If he can knock 40 off this total early we are in with a huge chance.

Opening partnership will be crucial but I'd have India just ahead thanks to Jadeja and our vulnerable middle order.

Should be very tight.

Yeah, it certainly seems like you can't try and bat too slow. We should probably anticipate that the game will be over within 70 overs whoever wins.

The pace at which Warner tries to play will be important. He can't go crazy but I also think he needs to push it a little more than the first innings (33 off 67).

You're absolutely right that if he can score 40+ it will put us in a great place.

Early or late, don't care if he makes 40 off 200. He just needs to contribute.

India were better when looking push the score along but not sure we can do the same.

I was just about to post a comment to the effect SMarsh must deliver in this innings or else, and he gets out. Time to try Kwahaja.

The Marshes:

SMarsh
First Test, 16 & 0
Second Test, 66 & 9

MMarsh
First Test, 0 overs & 4/ 0 overs & 31
Second Test, 0/2 off 2 overs & 0/0/4 off 3 overs & currently batting. 13, finally.

If Mitch Marsh wins this test for Australia I'll happily kiss his clacker when he returns to Oz, but I somehow think I won't be needing to pucker up. Time for both of them to go, they've had more than enough chances.

Squeaky bum time. Going to be a very nervous next hour or so.

I think India would be slight favourites right now. Very close though.

We need to get close with this partnership.

Despite the Indian commentators calling the 75 run victory, a 'huge margin' I don't think the Australians can be too critical. Credit to Ashwin and Yadav who made good use of the conditions today but many of the wickets were balls that went underground or deviated significantly off the pitch so it's hard to fault our batsmen.

Sure there were moments in the game such as S. Marsh's review (or lack thereof) or the failure to break Pujara and Rahane's partnership where you could say our boys should have won it but batting last on these trashy pitches makes the game almost unwinnable. Oh well, that's par for course in India but the signs are good for our boys going forward with Renshaw and the spinners firing.

It's only 1-1 now so the series is well and truly alive hopefully the boys don't get too bogged down and we can prevail in the next one--a great time to be an Australian cricket fan.

Predictable result given the way the last few sessions had gone. It's almost impossible winning on that pitch batting 4th, even harder with only 5 specialist batsmen. I know it's unrealistic, but I hope with every fibre of my being that we never see Mitch Marsh in a baggy green again. He is not good enough to play test cricket.

As for the other blokes, they can hold their heads high. We were in a really good position at the end of day 2 but India showed their class and we just weren't up to it. A few questionable bowling choices from our captain on day 3 mixed with errors in the field gave a world class team a window back into the game, well done to India on taking it.

The Indian spinners showed our spin twins how to bowl on that pitch and proved why they are the #1 duo in world cricket. Some might think it's a bit harsh but that 2nd innings performance should demonstrate why we can't stick with Lyon long-term. Unfortunately, I think that 8/50 will keep him in the team for a fair few more tests.

Anyway, I don't think that's why we lost this test. 4/7 and 5/11 from the tail with the bat proved to be our Achilles heel. We never wrestled back the momentum after that first innings collapse.

Hopefully Boof will have Warner practising his leg slip catching all week. I have him down as dropping 5 catches so far this series and the Rahane one proved particularly damaging. He has had some questionable returns with the bat too and his average in India now sits at 24.41.

Moving on to the third test I think we should bring in Khawaja at 6. I don't see Maxwell as the solution to our problems and think Shaun probably did just enough to warrant selection. Our bowling unit is still very good but I'm perplexed as to why we haven't seen Steve Smith bowl yet.
