Judging by the tables and results, the 2's and 3's competitions look very open (bar a couple, but anyone can win on their day). Is this normally the case? Any coaching personnel changes that may influence? Any predictions of GF from first 4 rounds.

Great wins by Southern District Rugby in 1st and 2nds Colts against Penrith with some key players rested from 1st's for the upcoming games against Eastwood then Randwick.
They certainly have some depth this year in all 3 colts’ grades and have a strong club sprit and believe in themselves, plus great attitude on the field and at training.
It will be a great day at Forshaw Rugby Park next Saturday for the Eastwood game.

Can I say that I believe there are people who are trying very hard at Penrith to make a success of their club and to turn the culture of previous years around. I also believe having a team representing this district is a must if rugby is not to become a small time, boutique winter sport.
However, from what I saw yesterday at Southern Districts there is still a long way to go. As a whole entity the Penrith Club should be proud of the days effort but there is a small element of fools who continually undermine the good work of others through their selfish attitude and not being able to accept their own inadequacies.
The second grade game was played in a good spirit even though the Penrith team were outplayed as the game progressed. There was a yellow card for an above horizontal tackle but the player didn't argue back and left the field quickly. The rest of the game had no more than the usual physicality of a rugby game and was played as such. At the end of the game both teams came together in a circle and gave each other 3 cheers. Great sportsmanship and well done.
The first grade game was a physical tussle up front and Penrith played with structure and some flair. Unfortunately, some of the Penrith boys haven't reached full match fitness and as they tired the Souths team exploited numerical advantage to score 4 tries and lead by 30 points. Throughout the first half the game had been a willing contest played within the rules and although behind on the scoreboard, Penrith had contested well.
The second half began as the first half had ended and Penrith were actually the first to score. However, it's what transpired in the last 30 minutes that as a club Penrith has to deal with.
A scrum erupted on the far side of the field with a couple of players throwing wild punches at each other. It isn't just this that is the problem though. After the referee had restored what order he could and issued yellow cards to the 2 main offenders the Penrith player couldn't let it go. The Souths player had been marched first and was leaving the field when the Penrith (No22) player charged after him giving him a spray and challenging him to start it up again. Only the intervention of a couple of his own players stopped this from becoming an extremely ugly incident.
Remaining players shook hands and the game resumed but now with a new edge to it. Now all the stupid stuff was back and I saw players punching and back elbowing (12) at the breakdown and a number of shoulder tackles (6). It remained tense right to the end when another scuffle broke out after Souths final try with one of the Penrith forwards (6) wanting the fight to continue in the carpark.
The referee blew full time with a minute or two to play so as to avoid any further problems although the Penrith players wanted to go on. The Penrith coaches were dismayed with their players as they told them to act like sportsman and not fools and to go and shake hands with the opposition.
This report is not directed as criticism of the officials and majority of the Penrith playing group who in large conducted themselves in the way rugby is meant to be played and enjoyed.
The question is, how is Penrith going to deal with the 4 idiots who besmirched their clubs reputation again. The players obviously have little self control,are self interested and don't care how their behaviour portrays their team and club. Why was No 22 allowed back after the yellow card after having acted like he did? This tells other players that this type of behaviour is acceptable. Make an example of him and keep him off the field, I noted that the Souths player wasn't allowed to return by his club. It's hard to garner faith and support from outside your club if this type of individual behaviour isn't swiftly dealt with. The general rugby community would rather you had 1 team of players who know how to play and behave than 2 teams with poorly disciplined players making up the numbers.
Rugby is a physical game where cleaning out at the ruck is a testament to how tough you are by how many times you go back for more. Taking offence to being cleared away at a ruck and wanting to start a fight over it is more testament to how weak you are physically and mentally.
People like "Cattledog" are making a concerted effort to build a respected rugby club. To do this you have to set standards of behaviour, on and off the field, that are non-negotiable. If players can't accept those levels of discipline then don't tolerate their membership of your club as you are all held accountable by their actions.

Nobody likes to see others good work suffer for a few idiots who wear their lack of emotional control like a badge of honour. It's a game of club rugby, not the UFC. Many people are quietly supportive of your quest but are tired of this type of behaviour and perception then becomes reality. Keeping rugby alive in your area is a tough job with tough decisions. Good luck.

Clubs don't want red cards and as 1 souths player at halftime said why should we just stand there and get punched or cop the swinging arms.

What sort of comment is that this is meant to be a forum about the Colts Sydney Rugby there seems to be more talk about other issue's then the actual rugby that is played?
I wonder sometimes how many of the forums users have actually play rugby at a high or even club level as some comments seem to be very uncouth and misdirected.
I tried to write positive words in this forum, I played, coached, run clubs plus been a spectator in the in this great game for the last 45 years that I have been involved in Rugby since I started playing rugby at the age of 5 in the Manly area in Sydney.
There is a big difference about a bit of biff and hard hits in rugby that duly goes with the territory to thuggery, the season takes in all type of games some easy some hard if you are a good coach and have competent help around you at your disposal you plan your games well.
Rest player on the easier games and especially when your weekend opponent does not have 3rds to play. It all about elevating lower grade players to the higher grade to give them time on the paddock, plus it about pushing players to better themselves and the team in a whole and see how they have improved and where thy fit in? As we all know rugby is a week by week proposition with injuries those players might be needed in business end of the year.
I have flown to Sydney and seen 4 rounds so far this year and have seen some great rugby played by some great young gentleman and some fine sportsmanship as well in all 3 colt grades.
By far rugby seems to be at its best for some time if you were at Rat Park last Saturday you could have seen one of the best rugby matches in some time even better than some say the Super 15 this season we have the NRC starting in August.
Rugby is in a good place at present we have a lot of great talented players around in Juniors, Schoolboys, Colts, Grade and Super 15 and anyone else I have forgot.
Gallant and good tempered in the field, may we love the game above the prize. Enable us to lose, when that must be, without sullenness, and when we win make us generous to those who are defeated.
In Rugby, like in life, there is a score, and there are going to be winners and there are going to be losers, and quite often the difference between the two is loyalty. The importance of giving, rather than receiving and the importance of sharing are all the ingredients of victory.
