HJ, would you be so kind as to post the link to the lists of the weekly team sheets and player points values. I'm obviously looking in the wrong places on the NSWRU website.

I hear one club has 45 players on the bench each week. How is that possible or how is that fair?

Let's assume that none of these are rock stars, and are therefore only worth 2 player points each to that club, although 30 of the 45 were former Junior Village club players in that district.

The Club in question (if true) has warehoused 60 Player Points. People whinge on here about the usual suspects recruiting or "poaching" 5 or 6 Rock star players (30 or 36 Player Points) from the previous years School Graduates.

How is having 3 teams worth of players unable to play each week growing the game, or even developing those pine riders individually?
Some Clubs operate their entire Colts programme on around 60 players.

Market forces will soon dictate that the Pine Riders will soon get jack of getting no game time and either quit rugby, or go to another club that is short of players.

I think (may need to check the rules again) players can change clubs rather easily up to the start of Round 5. After that there are significant hoops to jump through. It will be interesting to see what happens to the 45 Pine Riders as the season unfolds.

Follow your nose from this link by clicking on the Competition, then the game in the round by selecting the funny looking icon to the left of the game result.

Many thanks - I had made it to that link on numerous occasions but had never uncovered the wealth of info that lies behind that icon:)

On a separate note, I understand that there are a variety of reasons why there are changes to teams that take the field compared to those named earlier in the week (Rugby Addict's post at #114, for example). However, it does seem odd that when you are aware that player X is being selected on a weekly basis in the starting team that the player is not named in the official team lists submitted earlier in the week. One of life's little mysteries I guess.

Of course Clubs wouldn't knowingly submit partially inaccurate team lists on a Wednesday would they?

Player weights and heights are also accurate in programmed aren't they?

There is also a little bloke with a bucket of gold sitting at the end of rainbows.

Competition rule extract;

7.4.1 (a) Players with current SuperRugby contracts can only play 1st Grade.

What status does a "Supplementary Squad" Super Rugby Contract have for the purpose of rule 7.4.1(a)?

Seems that not all Super Rugby Contracts are "SuperRugby contracts", or the Beasties may need to rethink their team lists for this round.

And on the subject of Player Points and eligibility, does a one point local discount for previously played with the club apply for a player who has not previously played for the club but maybe would have if they weren't injured last season?

Edit: A reference post has been deleted by the OP, so this post has been edited to stand on its own.

A suggestion has been made that Australian Schools Barbarian Players should be indexed to 6 points with a maximum discount of 3 points.

Another Comp rules extract:
7.3.6 Discounts cannot index players below 50% of their points.

Aust Schoolboys representatives are 6 points.
It is a little unclear if this is also Aust A (AKA Barbarians), although later in the rules it does say under 7.3.2:
Australian Schoolboy representative players, including Australia ‘A” (current or former) will not be eligible for Colts 3.

This suggests that "Australian schoolboy representative in 2014 and or 2015;" includes Aust A/Barbarians.

Regardless of whether a 2015 Aust Schools Barbarian Player is worth 6 PP or not, as they would have almost certainly been at Div 1 Schoolboys Championships in 2015, this will give them a base rating of 4 PP. This could discounted by a maximum of 50% (or 2 points) to 2 PP, not 1 PP regardless of the discount being applied.

There are a number of players in this situation and there are a few examples of what appears to be incorrect application of the discount rules in the Team Lists on Fusesport.

I am sure that the Competition Manager will work it out eventually, and I'm fairly certain that they will be assisted in this role by rival clubs.

^^^^^^. The team lists on the results web pages are filled in after the event. Some clubs are very slick at entering the data. Others seem to ignore it totally.
It is individual club responsibility to enter the data on the web site, and it must frustrate the Comp manager when they don't do it, or are inaccurate. I also believe copies of the match day sheets are scanned and/or faxed in to the Comp manager so they have a record if the clubs don't complete the on line data entry.

You will not find the proposed team lists there. Last year under The tab called team lists on the Shute Shield page all the club teams for all grades could be downloaded. For some reason this year, that tab now only contains a link to 1st Grade teams that are published on the Rugby News web site.

I have a snout that is providing me with the same data that was publicly available last year. I use that to produce the team lists for the upcoming weekend as seen in post #141 above.

These are rather aspirational because they reflect who is available as at Training on Tuesday Training. I think the clubs have to submit the lists by lunchtime on Wednesday. Sometimes clubs are not completely accurate with their team lists, and sometimes they are forced to change their lists due to injuries on at training, or return from rehab, players work rosters changing at short notice, player points considerations etc. Keep that in mind when reviewing the lists that I post.

FYI- Randwick 1s points are incorrect. The result v Gordon was
Gordon 34(5T,3C,1P) - Randwick 17(3T,1C). At the moment Fusesport still says 34-23(4T,1P) giving Wicks an unearned bonus point. I'm sure it's just a mistake but it's one that needs correcting so the ladder can read true.

^^^Not just an incorrect ladder @7083. A 4T bonus point in Colts 1's is worth 6 points in Club Championships, and Colts Club Championships.

Best to report any suspicions of errors in Fusesport data to your affiliated club, so in turn they can contact the Competition Manager to compare the web site data with the two signed team sheets from the actual game.

An anonymous complaint on G&GR is like peeing in a wetsuit. It may give you a sense of relief and a warm feeling down below, but it makes no difference to the outside environment.

It is not as if the Competition Manager monitors this forum on the off chance that someone points out an error in the official record.

The Wix website records the Colts 1 score against Gordon as 23-34. http://www.randwickrugby.com.au/news/news-2016/5074-results-round-2-randwick-v-gordon
Nothing on the Gordon Website to confirm or counter that view, and nothing on twitter about Colts 1 Gordon vs Randwick either.
Wix facebook just says Colts 1 Lost and their electronic newsletter available via a link from their facebook page has a 23-34 score recorded.
Gordon facebook page just says "1st Colts get the win. How good!"

HJ,
It's been reported but nothing has changed. Perhaps they need to go to the video of the game.

The disappointing thing is that Randwick have invented a try scorer and a penalty goal kicker and seem to have forgotten they converted their first try. They were alerted to the mistake a week ago and did nothing about it so it had to go to the competition manager - should never have had to go that far IMO.

Don't BOTH managers record the points scorers, and agree with the Referee what the score actually was, with Referee and BOTH Manager's Signatures on obtained on both Teams score sheets after the game.

If those three characters can't sort that out in the immediate aftermath of the game, then we are in for all sort of fun trying to sort things for the season.

The Fusesports Team sheets still show Red Cards for Alexander Broad (Gordon Prop), and Sam Horwitz and Baily Hilder (Randwick Halfback and Inside Centre respectively), even though there was discussion earlier on this thread that there was no Send Offs for the Wix (Post #118 & 120).

Round 2 was 2/6. Round 3 was a similar 2/6 although I wasn’t too far off nailing a 35 all draw at Coogee Oval. Having a tipping shocker.

Round 4 Tips (some good matchups this round)

Eastwood v Northern Suburbs. Match of the Round. Both teams have a 2 from 3 record with just a losing BP separating them on the Competition ladder. U20 Star Ed Craig is not on the Woodies team sheet so the former Aust Schoolboy hooking battle of Craig v Pritchard won’t be played out this time. This match could go either way and my tip was based on a coin toss that came up heads for the Shoremen. I do like the look of the Woodies #7 Anderson, and the Menzies and Clancy show will light things up in Marsfield. Regardless of victor out at TG Milner, the losing team will get a BP for nearly winning.

Sydney University v Manly. Match of the Round 2. The Corporation have shown a propensity to go to sleep for periods in their games so far and allow the bad guys to grab some meat while they are not watching. Meanwhile the Surfer Boyz comprehensively rolled the 2016 People’s Choice Champs last week to establish their claim for a place at the top table. The returning U20’s cavalry may just tip things in favour of The Corporation.

Warringah v Parramatta. Wannabe Match of the Round. Haven’t the Rats turned a disappointing 2015 around? They will be too good for the M2B who have shown a lot of promise and toiled hard but are yet to register a competition point, bonus or otherwise. Rats by 15.

Randwick v Penrith. With all their Scholarships, Schoolboy Superstars, and State U20 Selections, who’d a thunk that the big spending Randi-Wix would be 1/3 this season. Still the 5th last on the ladder should be able to sneak home with a 4T BP against the team that is 2nd last on the ladder.

Eastern Suburbs v Southern Districts. Match of the Round, also. The Hobbits have some outstanding outside backs and some big grunters up front. Similarly the Beasties have a top notch Coach, 6 U20’s players and a fair swag of Cranners and Scots schoolboy Championship winning players on their roster. Both teams should be in the top half of the ladder but are 7th and 10th on the ladder. This will not be the case by Round 18. The Beasties remain my bogie tipping team, nearly always performing against my tip, so it really doesn’t matter who I tip, it’ll be wrong. Tries will be scarce but Hobbits to take the chocolates by 5-7.

Gordon v West Harbour. Almost Match of the Round. The Pirates have been scoring some tries, but letting a few too many in, but then the Staggies have also let a few meat pies be scored against them as well. This will be a fairly tough battle up front, but the Highlanders look to be fitter and should have the edge in the loose forwards and Hairdressing division to carry the day by 12-20 points.

Round 4 TipsEastwood v Northern Suburbs. [Snip] .

According to the Woodies' eNewsletter, Ed Craig played 2nd grade last week (plus, I'm told, 25 minutes of first grade off the bench when Sam Needs went off injured) but is unavailable this week.

"Second Grade - 3rd Place [snip]
This week it is a Norths side looking for their second win. They beat West Harbour in Round 1 and have had successive losses to Warringah and Easts (going down 12 – 50 last Saturday). Eastwood were too strong for Easts two rounds ago and should prove to be too strong for Norths this Saturday.

There are four changes to the side for this week's match. James Holden is back after missing last week through injury and replaces Ed Craig at hooker who is attending a wedding".

Craig also played a full game for second grade in the Woodies 2nd Grade trial win v Parramatta a couple of weeks ago, and backed up for 30 minutes in 1st grade st hooker on the same day, as an injury replacement.

Looks like he might be a regular in 2nd and / or First grade for the Woodies this year, rather than colts.

Lots of U20s players end up playing grade footy, rather than Colts. Playing Grade footy should improve his chance of landing a gig for the Junior World Cup in Manchester. Still a shame he isn't going head to head with Pritchard on the weekend. He could have been the point of difference between the two rather evenly matched teams.
